Gdansk is renowned for it’s delightful amber jewelry and in the museum can be seen insects sealed eons ago in resin and thus now perfectly preserved in amber. The Hotel Wolne Miasto right in the heart of Gdansk’s Old Town is nowhere near as old but revisiting it after an absence of over three years evoked the term “frozen in aspic”. I keep returning to this modest but superbly located 3 star hotel precisely because everything is so close to hand. This time though the thought struck me as I entered the hotel room that the lighting was so dim as to verge on parsimonious. Furniture, fittings and fabrics all unchanged since I first stayed there probably over 20 years ago, the dark woods and heavy reds a little reminiscent of the style prevalent in the communist era. With experience of similarly priced hotels in the city on previous visits when WM had no vacancies, what struck me most was the absence of tea/coffee making facilities, although two small bottles of water were provided. At the price I was paying for a 4 night stay, surely the initial capital cost of a kettle and some china plus beverage sachets would not be outlandish? An unkind soul might mutter that this business is a cash cow where the only modernization that has taken place is in the bathrooms – these are on a par with 4 star hotels I must say. The staff are friendly enough and the hotel is clean but to me there seems to be a soul missing. The pictures on the walls evoking the Gdansk of over 100 years ago have never been changed and there are now a few slightly threadbare patches on the plush carpet winding its way up the grand spiral staircase. The term faded glory comes to mind, but I don’t think the hotel ever enjoyed such a period since it was rebuilt after the devastation inflicted by the Russians on the city at the end of the war. During the communist era, the hotel was probably considered luxurious but times change and the current 3 star rating is possibly a little on the generous side. Please note that all the aforegoing are my own subjective reflections on the hotel and should be taken as somewhat melancholy observations and not criticism. The only negative points I would actually make is that in the mansard room I was staying in I could – as I lay in bed – hear loud voices in the neighbouring room, and my lightly tapping on the wall indicated that this was not solid. Also, although there is a lift to the main floors, there is just inside the entrance an annoying little “ pit “ which must restrict access for the disabled or inconvenience those with mobility issues. I cannot imagine that great expenditure would be necessary to level this area. I will more than likely return to the hotel in the future, but it would be wonderful if some of my observations could be taken on board.

I love this hotel, it is my favorite hotel in Gdansk. It is close to almost everything. It is however near a Nightclub so the nighttime can be active. The service and the housekeeping are so Nice and accommodating. The breakfastbuffet was Nice and alternative. The hotel is clean and neat. Blowdryer, robes, slippers, extra pillows and towels are on the room. A hotel I have been at before and Will definitely be at again.

This hotel has one of the best locations for a cheap hotel in Gdansk. It's very clean and the rooms are very cozy. It's all kept in a old looking kind of style. The staff are very helpful, and everyone here speaks English. I would recommend this hotel to anybody.

Incredibly well located hotel right at the top of Old Town; trains, trams and buses all within a five minute walk. All of the main attractions within walking distance and plenty of food and drink options on your doorstep. Big spacious rooms with good bathrooms. As others have said, the noise can be quite loud as it’s located next to a night club and on our first night we had to ask move to a different room. However the receptionist was lovely and did it without fuss so could not have asked for more. We did not have breakfast so can’t comment but was a good stay and would definitely stay again if ever in Gdańsk

Ideally located for Old Town etc... easy check in with friendly helpful staff, the deluxe rooms are spacious with gowns and a free mini bar stocked with beer, vodka, juice, water and pretzels, a nice touch for the cost of the rooms. Comfy bed. Breakfast was standard fare, buffet style with hot selection, omelettes and bacon and polish sausages with a selection of cheeses, cold meat etc... more than adequate. Good location some nice touches, welcoming helpful and friendly staff, would definitely stay again. Only negative if in room.facing the street is the noise well in to the early morning which will upset those travellers wanting an early night.

Very reasonable prices, clean rooms and friendly staff. Was staying for a single night, location is right up old town a few minutes walk and you are in the middle of it. Flourishing night life (Saturday night). The only drawback was the cab back to airport (not hotels fault), fancy car and a bill of twice as much as the trip to the hotel, same distance approximately same time. Luckily we had the receipt on hand and after a failed attempt by the driver trying to convince us that the rate is double on Sunday he did gives us a “discount” of 30%. Be careful, keep receipts.

We got a bus from the airport, took about half an hour and was so cheap and easy to do. Hotel was a short walk from bus stop. We booked a deluxe double room on 2nd floor. It had nice views across the streets and turrets. Large comfortable king size bed, huge round bath and mini bar. We were a bit disappointed because we expected more alcoholic drinks than 2 bottles of beer to be included but it was fine. Room had tea and coffee facilities and a kettle, hairdryer and safe. Breakfast was amazing with so much choice, hot and cold buffet and also fruit, yogurts and croissants. The bar staff were really lovely and friendly with really good English. We had the best margaritas we’ve ever had in the bar one or two evenings. Location was fantastic, literally 2 minutes and you are in the Christmas market, restaurants and bars are close by too and it was about a 10 minute walk to the riverside. Beautiful streets with gorgeous architecture everywhere. We also jumped on the train and went to Sopot for the day that was also wonderful. Would highly recommend

I kindly would like to thank you for your time you gave us to write the review about the stay in Wolne Miasto Hotel in Gdansk. I always read such reviews with pleasure when the Guest is fully satisfied with the service and the expectations are met. I would like to share your opinion about the Hotel's convenient location which is not only few steps from the main tourist attractions but also easy reachable from the bus and train stops. Especially when you come to Gdansk for the first time & you search convenient connection between airport & city centre. Now the Hotel's location is even more attractive as to the Christmas Market you have only 1 minute walking distance. You can feel the Christmas atmosphere straight from the Hotel windows. Thank you for the room description, we do care about the furnishings quality. Also i am happy that you enjoyed the breakfast which is higly appreciated by Hotel's Guest. I hope that soon you will visit Gdansk and you will think warmly about Wolne Miasto Hotel. Please feel always invited.

The first thing I noticed when entering the room was the smell of dust, in daylight you see a very thick line around the edge of the room, horrid. I was an old room definitely in need of upgrading, event he chairs had questionable water marks all over them. We arrived long after midnight but that was ok we could sleep in, but at 7 o'clock the was constant banging on the other side of the wall then just before 8 o'clock there was someone using a pneumonic drill/jackhammer, this didnt stop on the weekdays it was constant the whole day so you couldnt have a nap later in the day to make up for lost sleep. The breakfast room is tiny very little tables, the food badly laid out and no space to reach the buffet you nearly stand on the people who are seated. There were to be alot of empty containers, the website/menu claims you can order warm breakfast food like eggs and sausage but this is not true if its not there you are just not getting any, we ate for just one breakfast as there are many many other eating places on the door step. Its not clear on the hotel information but the hotel is split over 2 buildings not beside each other but a short walk away, in one there is reception and restaurant and the other has hotel bar, apparently its newer and didnt seem to be beside construction works The staff were professional and friendly and everything is withing walking distance

Dear Hotel Guest, i would like to thank you for the opinion about the stay in Wolne Miasto Hotel. I am happy to read that the staff service and the Hotel's location met your expectations. I would like to share your feelings about the breakfast and the room. I can understand that the noise can be bothersome. In Wolne Miasto Hotel the front office changes always the room when the Guest asks for it. The noise was possible as our neighbour Wybrzeże Theater is still carrying out some modernization works that will make Hotel's location even more interesting and exceptional. Thank you for the understanding. Breakfast buffet has always good opinion among Hotel's Guest also among the Guests coming from outside. You used the breakfast on Saturday morning and on this day one group from outside came for breakfast with no reservation. Also the Hotel's Guests came to restaurant almost at one hour this morning. The breakfast staff tried to offer the best possible service in this situation. Also i would like to add that hot dishes are always in the buffet offer and on Saturday morning it was also possible to eat hot dishes. When the containers were empty the waiter would not refuse to make an individual order. I hope that some more information would help to understand the service better. I really do hope you may visit us again in future. Please feel always kindly welcome.

I stayed for four nights in single room. I like (almost) everything about this hotel: location is the best, no complaints about cleanliness, great and helpful staff, affordable price, late check-out and great internet connection. I'm really pleased and this hotel ticks all boxes. There is thing worth mentioning: it was Wednesday morning, at 7, after my first night in the hotel and I could hear terrible noise of braking glass bottles - it was day of garbage collection and guys made such a noise (upped but acoustic of the courtyard). It did not wake me up, I was just laying in the bed relaxing, but not everybody is a early bird. And one more thing: it's totally personal thing but for me the mattresses are too soft and I'd prefer something more firm. Restaurant has very poor range of choices for vegans. Fortunately for vegans/vegetarians you do not have to go far to eat well. Overall I was so pleased with the stay that I'd definitely will be coming back.
