Penzion La Veneria - a building from the year 1647 with a very rich history has now been reconstructed and renovated by the owners, to turn it into a romantic, cozy bed&breakfast in the heart of South Moravia, Valtice. It offers 5 double bed-rooms with bathroom and "breakfast to bed". It has a spatious garden and a wine cellar, where - through the season everyday and off season during the weekends - you can taste the best local wines with something little to eat.

I definitely have mixed feelings about this place. It’s in an interesting old house close to the main square in Valtice. The rooms (at least ours) are stuffed with weird Baroque style furniture and an abundance of tsotchkes. As with most little European hotels the rooms are up a few flights of stairs with no possibility of anyone helping you lug your luggage. We stayed in the Wedding Room. We were quite surprised to find that room has no shower. It has a Jacuzzi with a hand-held sprayer. Not what we were expecting at all. The owner couldn’t figure out why this was a problem and why it wasn’t a problem that the room description on their website didn’t specifically state that there wasn’t a shower. We wanted to change rooms but they were full. Another thing you need to aware of (it’s somewhere on their website but certainly not prominently stated) is that they don’t take credit cards. Fortunately we decided to pay our bill the evening before we were leaving which left us time to go to an ATM. Breakfast isn’t included but is available for a reasonable price. It was served in the lovely back garden and was quite generous ie enough for us to take the leftovers to eat later. There’s no AC. A standing fan was provided in our room but I think a ceiling fan would be more efficient and quieter.

You will really feel like at a castle in this lovely hotel with a direct access to the castle park and a beautiful garden. The owners are friendly and hugely hospitable people. The breakfast was very tasty and well served right into the room.

Adjacent to the castle park at a quiet place but near the center of Valtice, there stands a house, which from the outside doesn’t look very interesting. But inside, everything is different. The interior looks rather like in a chateau with all the paintings and statues, magnificent marble staircase and mirrors everywhere. And the room (we were staying in the room named “floral”) was lovely, with Baroque castle furniture and overlooking the garden. The garden itself is literally a fairyland, with chairs and tables and an outdoor kitchen. On warm summer evenings, it's a real romance to sit there in the garden and tasting delicious local wines. In the morning, breakfast is served 'in bed', is prepared on a trolley at your door. Everything fresh, tasty and in sufficient quantities. Unfortunately, they does not serve dinner, but it is possible to use the outdoor kitchen and prepare something yourself, or in Valtice, there are many excellent restaurants and not too far away. The landlady was very helpful and nice, everything clean and tidy, just pretty peaceful and relaxed atmosphere.

Not long after we arrived I was giving myself a huge pat on the back for picking this property. It is situated in what used to the home of the castle groundskeeper at Valtice Castle. While our room was a bit tiny, overall the properly totally made up for this. The highlight was the beautiful walled in garden that had many lovely seating areas for guests to enjoy and a great outdoor kitchen. Every morning we were served breakfast in the garden and every evening we relaxed there. Also it was a very quick walk out of the garden gate to the Valtice Castle complex. Finally, Irena, the innkeeper was very nice and provided great service. This inn is also a quick walk from some local wine cellars and a very quick drive into the quaint town of Valtice. This was a fantastic value and I only wish I could have stayed longer!

We have had a wedding in the close by Château Valtice's Chappell. La Veneria's Knights of wine hall was a perfect venue for the wedding breakfast and the pension was loved by all of us who stayed there before and after the wedding. The owner of the pension and her family were a great help during the organization of the wedding :). Thank you we will be coming back for our anniversaries in years to come. Markéta & Gavin
