After spending nearly a month in Prague, splitting our time between 4 hotels, we came to the Smetana Hotel, # 4, for the Grand Finale. I worked very hard planning this trip to Prague. Selecting the four hotels, strategically for their location and the very specific accommodations, including terraces and balcony. Booking with the help of our platinum Amex travel agent. I get additional perks booking with Amex. On one of our previous visits to Prague, my husband and I stopped by the Smetana hotel, and I fell in love with the suite with the long balcony across the front of the hotel. The one and only balcony. I wanted that suite guaranteed before arrival, and was assured by email , that it is reserved for the duration of our stay. I was very much looking forward to the balcony, to be able to sit outside and enjoy the view late at night. I was able to stop by before checking in , as we were staying in the Four Seasons hotel, just a short walk between the two hotels. I was glad I did that, because, to my surprise, there was some confusion about the booking at first. Upsetting, yes, but after being able to produce emails, the balcony suite was "reconfirmed." My husband and I checked in the Smetana hotel the following day. The Four Seasons hotel arranged a complimentary hotel car transfer for us, as did the hotel Savoy to Mandarin and Mandarin to Four Seasons. The distances between the hotels are small, but we appreciated the kind gestures and not having to use Uber. On arrival, we were checked in by the friendly staff and escorted to the suite. We had late checkout in Four Seasons , so there was no time lost with waiting for our suite to be ready. . The living room was large, with old fireplace, probably just decorative. Large double windows and French doors leading to the balcony. Nice hardwood floors. There were flower boxes on the railing, that offered a bit of privacy from the street, but did not obstruct the view. The beautiful river and the Castle view. The ceilings were very high, the living room was grand. I loved opening the French doors to the balcony to hear the ever so familiar sounds of Prague. I loved the view especially at night and watched the people and trams passing by. The bedroom had a king size bed, desk, large TV and 2 large double windows. The bathroom was directly behind the bedroom, with a shower in the high-wall tub. Not really my preference , but an easy compromise. Sink with just little space around it . Not ideal, but again, not a deal breaker. The toilet had a private wall enclosure behind a door. Great ! The really nice and unexpected bonus was a half bath in a short hall by the entrance to the suite. I was strangely drawn to stay in this hotel. My husband would have been content in the Four Seasons, he thought moving just down the street did not make much sense. The previous moves were from Hradcany, to Mala Strana to Old Town. But it was important to me. The accommodations in Smetana reminded me of the house I grew up in Prague. Very close by. On the other side of the river near the Legii bridge. The similarities were many the details in the living room with the extra high ceilings , the same double windows, the hardware details, the old pattern hardwood floors. And yes, the river view. Out of curiosity, one day during our stay, I had asked to see other rooms across the courtyard. The gentleman who escorted me on the tour, chatted with me and shared a very surprising detail about the suite we were staying in. He said that many years ago, It used to be a private residence of Dr. Arnold Jirasek -a prominent doctor, Head of the Charles University Medical Faculty's clinic of surgery When my father was a medical student at the Charles University professor Jirasek was his mentor. Later in years he attended my Dad's wedding . His wedding gift, a gorgeous vase, sits in my living room in America . Talk about coincidence. Maybe this is the real reason why I wanted to stay in this balconied suite so much :) I am sure, that this story is of no interest to other travelers. I just could not resist. I thought perhaps the staff may be amused by it. We enjoyed interacting with them, especially Lucie and Marian. We had breakfast daily , plentiful buffet with great selections. Included in our rate. Supposedly a perk for booking with platinum Amex. I like fruit and berries, pastries. The selection was almost as good as in Mandarin and Four Seasons. Hotel Savoy took the first price in the buffet breakfast :) We also had very nice dinner in the Smetana restaurant. My husband and I had a lovely time here, I enjoyed being close to "home" and to all the very familiar places. The morning of our departure, we took the hotel's Mercedes limo to the airport. Booked the night before. Roman, the driver was on time , waiting for us. The 900 kc was high in comparison. But at the end of a long trip, it was one less thing to stress about. Our stay in Hotel Smetana was , in all aspects, just as wonderful, as in the more expensive Mandarin and Four Seasons. We had a wonderful time, thanks again for everyones hospitality, Lucie and Marian. And last but not least, many thanks to the gentleman, who shared the wonderful story with me. Note : The panorama view of the castle and the river was wonderful from the 7th floor suite in Four Seasons. But the Smetana hotel suite with the wonderful views, combined with the warmth and friendly interactions of the staff with us were indeed , the Grand Finale ! Till next time, Dekuji a Nashledanou

Hotel's Favorite
My husband and I spent a week in this amazing hotel, and there are three reasons why the Smetana MUST be at the top of your list for Prague: 1. The building. It is beautiful. It is historic. The inner section is the Pachtuv Palace, built in 1628 and host to some incredible names such as Mozart, Casanova and Wagner. The newer (19th century) wing overlooks the Vltava river, with stunning and ever-changing views of the castle and Charles Bridge. The spa and sauna are housed in the cellars of the Palace - a lovely and atmospheric space. 2. The location. Only a short walk to all the tourist sites. However, if you have time, allow yourself to drift down the old, winding, cobbled laneways and simply discover. Within a very short walk of the hotel are some great restaurants and pubs to suit all tastes and budgets. 3. And this is the most noteworthy: THE STAFF. I do not exaggerate when I say we were treated like honoured guests, even family, during our week's stay. While in some other hotels the staff are polite but business-like, the Smetana staff and all genuine and caring. A particular shout-out to Andrea and Jan at the front desk, Elisha, Lucie and another lovely lady in the restaurant areas, and Roman our driver. Plus the "invisible" but superb chefs who presented us with stunning breakfasts each day. There were other terrific staff with whom we interacted but I'm afraid I did not get their names. Also, I want to point out that, prior to our visit, I made frequent email interactions with Daniel, the reservations manager, who attended to my many questions with great patience and took great care to assign us a magic room. This is the place to be in Prague. Treat yourself. I will always be glad I did.

We had the most lovely visit. The service was outstanding from the initial “We are lost phone call on our arrival!” We are so happy that we selected your resort. We travel frequently, and have many friends in the states who will travel once this pandemic is behind us. We will recommend your hotel without hesitation. The service for parking, storing our bikes, breakfast, helping us with daily adventures will never be forgotten. We hope to visit very soon, once all restrictions are lifted. In the meantime, I continue to teach, and plan future trips!

My boyfriend and I just spent 3 glorious nights here - everything about it was absolutely fantastic, luxurious, comfortable and everyone was so, so friendly and helpful! The hotel itself is gorgeous - it's everything you'd expect from a former palace! And, its location couldn't have been better - it's super close to all the major sites and on the river! It was the perfect cool and calm oasis to return to after a day of sightseeing in the summer heat! Our room was beautiful! We had a 4 poster bed, with a view of river and the bathroom was exquisite. The room was super clean and super comfortable and just perfect! The breakfasts, where do I start ... they were luxurious! Cheese, croissants, fresh fruit and juice, perfectly scrambled eggs, delicious bacon ... all enjoyed in the courtyard (thankfully, we had gorgeous summer weather). They were the perfect way to start the day! Last but not least .. the staff, oh my goodness, were absolutely delightful! So friendly, so helpful, so genuinely nice! Alex and Jan were the BEST hosts and a sincere thanks and big hug for helping to make our trip spectacular! I'll definitely be staying at the Smetana again. I didn't want to leave in the first place!! It's a little slice of paradise in an absolutely gorgeous city! Until the next time, Smetana!

Smetana hotel is in my opinion the best hotel I was in Praha so far. The service was perfect, the location is convenient and very close to all the attractions in the center but the real advantage of this hotel is the staff who is friendly, reactive and super professional. You really feel like you are someone very important to them and they will do their best to make your stay a lasting memory. Special thanks to Alex the Front Office Manager whose good mood and smile were always welcoming.
