Nové Město (New Town)
Nearly 700 hundred meters long, Wenceslas Square represents the most frequent and buzzing crossroads of the city. The National Museum in the upper part of the square watches over your spending spree in countless shops and retail stores lining the entire square, which ends at Na Příkopě, the most famous shopping street. When tired or broke, you can explore the city's underpasses, which can take you to the Old Town or to the courtyards of art nouveau houses with secret gems of greenery, white benches and rose bushes that provide unexpected peace in the midst of the city. Be sure to pay a visit to the traditional cafés, classic Czech pubs, cinemas and theaters. National Theater near the river has a lot to offer to foreigners. Go to the river bank and enjoy live music and drinks while watching a sunset behind Prague Castle.

As much I'd like to give this hotel a higher rating, I just can't. We were part of a small group tour so we had no choice in the type of room we stayed in. Having said that, we stayed at four other hotels throughout Central Europe and each one was much bigger than this. My wife and I had to step aside when one of us needed to get to our luggage. We were barely able to fit two luggage racks in our room for our large suitcases. Our room had a bath/shower combo and my wife had a difficult time climbing over the edge of the bathtub when she showered because it was so high. We asked for a room with a walk in shower only and were told there wouldn't be one available until the following night and that the room is smaller than what we currently have. I'm not sure how that would be possible! We didn't use the pool, but we went to take a peek and it did look very nice. The lobby was nice and spacious. They even had a woman playing the harp at certain times which was a nice touch. And the breakfasts were very good. We did enjoy the food. The concierge was very helpful and made great restaurant suggestions as well as making reservations for us. The hotel staff were generally very nice and helpful. My complaint is the room size and although we had no choice in our room, I'd still expect more from a five star hotel.

Response from PetrG91, Manager at Carlo IV

Dear Valued Guest, On behalf of Carlo IV, I would like to thank you for your constructive feedback. While I am pleased to read that the hotel staff was very nice and helpful, breakfast was very good and you like our harpist, I regret that you were unsatisfied with the size of our guest rooms – as we have many different categories, ranging anywhere from 18 to more than 100 square meters! Should you consider staying at Carlo IV hotel again, I would be happy to personally discuss our various room types with you, so that we can ensure your return stay is most pleasant and comfortable. Sincerely, Petr Gruber Front Office Manager

What is most impressive at this hotel is the spa center - a huge, perfectly designed swimming pool in the hotel's basement. The room itself did not impress me at all (I hate the inner courtyard view and the size was, let us say - funny), but the spa has lessened that negative impression. Although, the price was perfect for a hotel of this category, so I must not complain a lot. The breakfast was great, with lots of different options. The location is excellent - few steps from main train station. However, I must admit I was a little reserved for a revisit to this hotel, because if I paid the regular price for that room, I would be extremely disappointed. In every town I travel, I choose Marriott hotels and if elite treatment is satisfactory, I usually return to them. Here, I did not feel any elite treatment at all (even proper welcome or the key envelope for elite members) which makes me more reserved. I hope they will work it out soon.

The restaurant in the lobby was amazing. I loved the food and it was great for the whole family. The desert was the best. Our server Variz Singh was the best Waite possible and helped us with whatever we needed. He was a great server and I advise you to try and get one of his tables.

Likely the best Marriott experience we have had over the years. Room was spacious, and comfortable. Staff bent over backwards to insure we were enjoying our stay. Breakfast was one of the best spreads I have seen at a Marriott. The hotel is well maintained and beautiful. Ten minute walk to Old Town.
