Charming traditional retreat in 16th-century Emperor's residence, set beneath the walls of Prague Castle. Wander up the cobbled, traffic-free streets to The Golden Well (U Zlate Studne), clinging to the wall in the shadow of Prague Castle, and you will uncover one of the city's best kept secrets. This modest collection of little inter-locking houses was once home to Emperor Rudolf II, and later the astronomer Tycho de Brahe. Sensitive renovation - has created a cosy yet refined hotel. The result is a pleasing balance of mod cons - internet access, satellite TV - and old style elegance.

There are hotels in the world that make other choices in the area superfluous. Examples include The Grand Hotel in Milan and The Merrion Hotel in Dublin. The Golden Well is one of those hotels. The location is elegant and quiet, yet central. The views are striking. The staff is friendly, and the restaurant is excellent. The room are well-appointed, comfortable, and unique. The Golden Well makes visiting Prague simple; I would not stay anywhere else.

We had a great experience at Golden Well. We have been welcomed with a refreshing mint towel while checking-in. While a guy took us to the roof top restaurant to show us the hotel and to explain things about Prague, we were offered a welcoming drink sitting in the amazing restaurant where one can see the whole Prague skyline. Our room was perfectly cleaned and also many times a day: every time you exit the room, someone comes to fix it and the service provides a goodnight sweet surprise every evening on the bed. We will definitely go back there next time we're in Prague. Absolutely recommended!

I discovered this hotel by accident the last time I was in Prague, when the cab took me there by mistake. Even from that brief encounter with the staff, I told myself that I would book a reservation the next time I was in town. I think I owe the cab driver a big thanks.

I was not prepared for the wonderful experience I was about to have, (and I stay in nice hotels when I travel for work). Friends were meeting me in Prague, and arrived before me. They actually considered that and gave me the room next to them. This is but one small example of the care and attention you are shown when staying there.
You can definitely tell you are in the former home of an emperor. You feel as if you are a head of State visiting.

The rooms are stunning! Every one is different, and each has its own feel and character. There is turn down service every night, and the rooms are immaculate.
It was so nice to come in and sit in a common area to have a glass of wine, an espresso, and one of the delightful little treats that awaited us before dinner.

The restaurant is wonderful, and the views are beyond words, (no, I am not exaggerating). Breakfast is definitely worth adding to your stay, particularly if you are with friends..

The location, at the foot of the castle, means that you are steps to everything, and every path you take to wherever you are going is seriously photo worthy. I really cannot say enough nice things about this property.

The Golden Well is a beautiful, well-appointed hotel that pays attention to all the details. Wonderful staff, beautiful and comfortable accommodations and delicious food. Great location near the castle and gorgeous views from the restaurant. From the treats left with the turn down service to the classical musical softly playing in the lovely room when you arrive the staff makes your visit a real pleasure.

Wow! We chose this hotel due to the location and we were not expecting it to be as wonderful as it was. First, the location is fabulous. It's a quick walk to Prague Castle (although be prepared for lots of stairs/hill) and The Gardens below Prague Castle, which offer amazing views of the city. It's also a quick walk to Charles Bridge which then gives you access to all of Old Town. Prague is best seen walking around and taking in all the amazing architecture so it was great to have accessibility. The hotel is also located in a more governmental area so it's very quiet and there's not a lot of car traffic. We used their transportation service to and from the train station and that was well worth the money.

The hotel itself is gorgeous and doesn't feel like a hotel due to its windy passageways. It feels like you are staying in a historic home. I think they said they were fully booked while we were there but we never saw or heard anyone else. The rooms perfectly match the style of Prague and every night we came back to our room "turned down" with treats on our bedside tables.

When we first arrived, we were warmly welcomed and given a nice tour. We had drinks on the terrace restaurant which has AMAZING views. Viktoria sat with us and gave us a map with suggestions since it was our first time in Prague. She also got us reservations for drinks in the evening on the terrace (since we realized we wanted more of the views) and set up breakfast to go the next morning since our tour left before breakfast opened. Even though it was in the 40s (Fahrenheit), the terrace had blankets and heaters and staying warm was never an issue. Because the hotel is on a hill, it does offer one of the best views of the city. We were able to go to breakfast one time and again the views were great and the meal was delicious. They offer a great selection and served us really well.

Overall, the hotel made our experience in Prague very memorable. We were all so SAD to leave. We definitely plan to return to Golden Well in the future (hopefully very near future).

Want to feel like a prince or princess? This is the place. What an outstanding property…built high on Prague next to the Prague castle this gem begins with the approach to the hotel up a romantic and fairytale lane. It was my birthday when we visited and the hotel made our stay extra special! We stayed in the Tycho De Brahe suite and it was charming and elegant. Upon arrival, they offered us Prosecco and then gave me a bouquet of flowers, I suppose as it was my birthday. When we arrived in the room, we were completely charmed by the beauty, the outstanding views of Prague out the lovely windows, and were greeted by a sumptuous platter of fruit, cheese and wine. The suite has two rooms and a very large bathroom with heated floors. The bed was large, comfy, and the wood beamed bedroom was romantic. After settling in, the hotel sent up a chocolate mousse birthday cake that was divine. This hotel offered a hospitality room for coffee, desserts, and small bites which was such a lovely touch. If you are looking for charm and warm Czech welcome, don’t miss this. Our two week vacation began in Prague and we stayed at a 5 star and very expensive hotel that didn’t begin to compare to the Golden Well. We wished we had started here instead of our first hotel, but we definitely felt we had saved the best for last. Breakfast in the mornings had a terrific assortment of items as well as made to order options. The hotel is a five minute walk to busy tourist areas but feels a world away—and like you’re in another era. That’s the beauty and charm of this lovely property. Service was friendly and attentive. The attached restaurant made for a lovely meal with spectacular views. The only drawback? The air conditioning seemed weak, but that is its only fault. The room also had turn down service, plentiful bathroom amenities, and the living room had a coffee table that opened to reveal wine storage. The room was stocked with plentiful wine bottles very reasonably priced to offer guests an incredible experience. This is not a cookie cutter hotel. And our experience wasn’t either.

My wife and I feel well traveled. But not this well traveled. It started with a glass of wine on arrival, a tour of the facility (rare but so nice), and a room that was first-class with all original art and furniture (no factory manufactured anything). The bed had a pillow menu!! The staff could not do enough for us. The rates are not the cheapest but they compete when you consider the happy hour with wine, cheese, and sweets. Sitting on their terrace with great wine and the highest quality snacks. I have easily spent three digits on this experience and did not have 1/4 of the view. Also, the breakfast could be a Michelin-star breakfast. Again, some sparkling wine to awaken your palate and smoked trout to ease you into the day. The omelet was so fluffy it almost floated off the plate. I am laying it on thick because that is what the staff does, that is what the building does, and that is what the location does. You can save a couple of pennies elsewhere but you will lose the value.

This hotel gets my highest marks. From the warm welcome of Pavlina with cookies and beverages for our entire family of 5 to the wonderful thoughtful accomodations I can not say enough about this hotel. The location in the side of the Palace grounds was stunning and quiet- away from it all. The our two rooms were wonderfully set up with treats and fresh fruit waiting us and our children at check in. Pavlina found us a wonderful dinner location at the last minute for New Years Eve a tough chore but she did amazing! Turn down service was sweet with our room prepared and a evening treat each night. The bathroom with heated towels, amenities and all was amazing. Finally, each morning we would walk up be greeted for an amazing breakfast with stunning views of Prague. The staff Natalie and Lucie were the best staff I have ever experienced. They knew what I wanted exactly at the moment I thought of it. If I started to look for something at the buffet, they would know exactly what I was wanting and would bring it right to me. They did that for each of my children and my husband as well. They even remembered wants from one morning to another. I truly can't wait to come back and I missed Golden Well the moment I left. It was such a retreat for us. Finally, my son left an item in the room and they immediately found it and we have it now returned to us. I will never forget our special time at the Golden Well on New Years Eve. Truly to all the staff- Job Well Done!!!

My husband and I and another couple chose Golden Well Hotel for our four night visit to Prague. Overall the experience was amazing and we would not hesitate to stay again. The location is excellent; quiet yet close to great walking and restaurants. The staff were friendly and accommodating. It is hilly so if you are not steady with walking this may not be your best choice. This is a boutique type hotel so it has an unusual layout of older style rooms which we found charming. We paid a little extra for the upgraded room and, while I don’t know what the difference is from less expensive rooms, we were happy with what we had. The included breakfast allowed for a choice of a hot meal off a menu like eggs, pancakes, bacon or sausage, and also a buffet choice of cold meats, cheeses, breads, etc. I would not call the breakfast “hearty” but there was plenty to eat. We looked forward to returning every evening to our turned-down comfy bed. On a sour note…we travel a lot and we made our own plans well before arriving. One hotel staff member, a manager, seemed disappointed we were not booking our tours through them. We had already booked a driver to Passau (it was cheaper than their quote) and the last thing we were told as we left was “I do not think you will be happy with your drive to Passau”. Our driver was excellent and the ride was fine. Her clear disapproval of us making our own plans and arrangements left a slight sour feeling for us. Other than that, the stay was excellent.

The hotel is in great location away from the tourists in the old town but just at the foot of the castle. However, the path to the hotel is cobbled and pedestrianised (albeit a small bit) so if people have difficulties then this may be something to consider.

Our room was ok (quite small in the corner of the second floor) and a bit dark with one window at the end of the room. Would not want to stay in this room again!!! It was a lovely touch to have chocolates or a small cake every day in our room with the turn down service.

Svatlana was very helpful at the main desk but she was only there on the first day we arrived. Unfortunately, the other lady receptionists were not very helpful. We kept asking for the phone in our room to be repaired which was never done despite repeated requests and so could not order room service or communicate with the reception.

Our last day was very disappointing as we came back to the hotel tired and hungry and before we left for the airport we asked the receptionist to request the restaurant that delivers room service for a sandwich and coffee. At first there was a language barrier but finally when she did understand we were told it was not possible as the restaurant was booked for a party and they could not make a sandwich. We asked to speak to the restaurant (as we had checked out) but she refused to let us do this which left a very disappointing memory. Ultimately as we were hungry we took the cab early to the airport and ate there. One would not expect this of a hotel that is a five star and a “luxury” hotel!!!

Also beware that the reception does not call you if you have booked a private guide to pick you up at the hotel. We made this mistake and assumed the reception (like at all hotels) would intimate us that our guide had arrived and was waiting at reception. Ultimately, it was only when we were leaving the breakfast room that the lady told us someone was waiting and we ran down to find out he had been waiting an hour and has kept requesting the reception staff to intimate us that he had arrived.

Besides the above, a nice hotel in a good location.

Dear Sherina P, Thank you for your review and honest feedback. We are truly grateful for your personal opinion and feelings from your stay because it can help us to improve our services. Since we cannot change the disposition of our rooms, we will definitely keep in mind your preference about room for a possible future stay. I would like to sincerely apologize for the unfortunate inconvenience with your room telephone. Our houseman checked the phone after you reported it. The telephone had to be replaced with new one. Unfortunately, the delivery from our supplier took longer than your stay. Please accept my apologies if this information was not given to you at the front desk. Let me mention, that we are building a completely new team of the front desk and our trainees have still a lot of to learn. I admit, that receptionist´s reaction to your request for a meal before your departure was inappropriate and according to our standards you should have been offered with the room service, which is always available, even there is a private event at the restaurant. In case you are already checked-out form your room, you can be served in our lounge room. This was definitely a mistake at our side. Incident with the tour guide was not completely caused by our front desk. The guide said that you have the information about him, so receptionist do not have to call you and he will be waiting in his vehicle outside the hotel. He appeared again after almost hour, saying that he is still waiting and you did not arrive. We immediately tried to contact you and did so via our restaurant colleague, because you were just at the breakfast. Our receptionist could not know, that the guide is still waiting outside because in our hotel you can leave the building also through the restaurant exit, so you avoid the front desk. Anyway, I would like to assure you that I have thoroughly investigated origins of your unpleasant experience and took appropriate consequences to avoid similar situations in the future. I believe that we will have opportunity to welcome you at the Golden Well again and prove you, that your last experience was just an exception and we will serve you with the best possible service. Taxi's from the station as best obtained from the front of the station. Walk straight out the front and keep going towards the road in front. There is a taxi rank along that road. Can agree price or use meter (better) Don't get taxi elsewhere as you'll get told some inflated price.
