I was in historic Praha for my buddy’s wedding and stayed the hotel and will stay again if visiting the historic city. Located a few blocks (about ten minute walk) from historic downtown (and the famous St Charles Bridge) at the foot of the mountain overlooking Praha (with a great restaurant on top, Neboziezek Petriknka) Hotel U Krize is in a historic building with character and very affordable. Rooms are small (European standards) and comes complete with WC and douche (toilet and shower). Beds are likewise European standards (small), but the mattresses are firm. Bring your own supply of shower soap and shampoo. Staff speaks excellent English and very competent and profession. WiFi is available for free and the a continental breakfast available every morning from 0700-1000 consisting of great European bread, cold cuts, cheese, fruits, vegetable (tomatoes and cucumber), yogurt, musli, and European coffee and juice. Great meal and a restaurant…typical European, healthy and filling. In the evenings, the restaurant becomes a bar where very tasty and affordable Czech bier (cheaper than coffee) can be imbibed. If driving to the hotel, parking may be a bit difficult on site. There is parking available, but if your vehicle is not European (in other words compact), you will be out of luck. A historic building, an elevator had been built in 1995(?). However, please note, the size of the elevator was dependent upon structural specifications, thus large vehicles may not fit.
Definitely a place to stay again.

I am a long-time fan of this restaurant in Mala Strana (Little Quarter) in Prague, not only because of the excellent food and service, but also because they have the best beer I've sampled: Uneticke Pivo, from a small private brewery in Prague - all natural, nothing artificial or chemical added, wonderful taste. I always wanted to try out their hotel, but their prices are a bit higher than other hotels I know in the area. Through an excellent special deal on booking.com, I was able to fit this hotel into my budget, and it was a very pleasant experience. The rooms are small, but very clean, and especially the AIR CONDITIONING is a boon in summer, as many hotels in Prague do not have air conditioning at all, and it can get VERY hot here! However, considering the quality for the price, there are other hotels that are better in this area that have a slightly lower base price. Still, if this hotel comes up in a special deal, I would highly recommend it! So close to everything, and quiet and friendly!

I love the Hotel U Krize, the staff are polite, efficient and so helpful, nothing was ever too much trouble. The Hotel is very real, solid wood furniture, clean and freshly decorated throughout. You get a whole lot more than you pay for.

My best friend and I checked in and found we had a spacious double room, after asking for a twin, the next day we were moved to a two level room, with twin beds and bathroom up through the spiral stair case. The room was next to a quiet courtyard, beautiful. They had even put in the extra pillow I had asked for the night before, a very thoughtful touch.

The hotel is in an excellent position, opposite Petrin, the wooded hill with the funicular (go inside and get your tickets from the machine before joining the queue!) if you follow the paths to the statue you get the most stunning view across Prague and then can amble onto the palace and cathedral.

Food was great value, both at breakfast and in the restaurant at night. Cheap and a further 15% off for guests. El Cantina, right out of the hotel and along Ujezd has good vegetarian food.

I'd recommend no itenary in Prague, just walk, the city opens up before your eyes and is undescribably beautiful.

Enjoy the hotel for what it is and don't be put off by the negative comments, I don't have a large budget for travel but have done five star travel to camping, this hotel delivers quietly!

I have stayed in many basic and inexpensive hotels, but this place was dirty, the service terrible and the paint was even peeling in my room! When we arrived there was a man standing outside. He watched us enter. We went to the reception desk and no one came. We finally called. Still no one came.... Eventually a woman from the restaurant came and got the guy we had passed on our way in. He knew we were checking in, with luggage etc, but remained outside for whatever reason. It was not the greatest start, but hey for 59 euro/night for a double room, i don't expect 5 star service.

The room however was not only old and ragged, but very very dirty. Multiple stains above the bed on the wall from peoples heads, bugs and mosquitos that had been squashed. The towels were old, falling apart and stained...although appeared to have been laundered. Bathroom light switch had dried blood or G*d knows what on it. Panel above the toilet to flush with, approx 8X8 was so filthy I was afraid to touch it. Most things appeared to have not been cleaned or wiped off in ages.

The window was broken and could not be locked or even shut properly. It was really a terrible experience from beginning to end.

Oh yes, even the TV was broken, satellite not working or something and we could only get a few channels, no sky news or cnn or much of anything.

Sorry Hotel U Krize, but you need to get your act together or rename as a pension and at 1/2 the price.

We stayed in Hotel U Krize during 3 - 6 September. We found it very nice, spacious rooms, friendly staff, an excellent option if you need good accommodation in such beautiful city like Prague. We were two adults and our son aged 11 and had a 2 level room with stairs in the middle, which were the attraction of my son. Breakfast is usual, many choices to eat and location is excellent, just opposite the funicular to Petrin hill. Tram station is near the hotel, which is very convenient when you want to go downtown.

The Good
We arrived at the hotel at about 9 am and were we greeted by a friendly member of staff. As the hotel was fully booked we were unable to check in which is understandable, they offered us a complimentary coffee in the restaurant and stored our bags so could go wondering. When we came back at around 2 pm our room was ready and a bottle of bubbly was waiting for us (Just like I asked on email). We stayed in room 6 which is a lovely standard room with wooden rafters and windows which faces on to a courtyard area, which does have some seating. I will say the room gets very little natural light and the lights in the room didn’t do much to brighten it up, not that we stayed in the room for very long; I think some new bulbs in the room would make a massive difference.

Breakfast (7am -10am) – Breakfast was lovely, all the usual suspects for a continental style, Bread, Cheese, ham, crêpes etc, as well as some hot food, Scrambled eggs, Fried egg & bacon and Prague sausage

The hotel has two restaurants a fancy one called Restaurant U Krize and Czech Slovak. We only ate once in the Restaurant U Krize which is very reasonably priced and the food was nice. I would recommend the “Great Czech Plate” which lets you try a few different types for Czech meats and Dumplings.

The Bad
The biggest let down for me was the awful bed. I don’t know if it’s the same for all the standard rooms or if we drew the short straw but the mattress was nonexistent, just to put it into context I could put my thumb and first finger around it and squeeze until they touched that’s just how thin it was. My back was permanently on the bed slats and I couldn’t sleep on my side as my hip would dig into base of the bed. We had asked for more pillows just so we could sleep with them under our backs along with the 2 extra blankets.

I would love to stay at this hotel again it’s got Great staff, nice food, gorgeous rooms and spaces but I couldn’t risk getting that bed again as we really didn’t sleep properly for our 4-day trip which is just a shame. I hope someone from the hotel reads this and sorts it out as it really was the only bad thing I have to say about it. This is why I can only give it 3 out of 5

Recently stayed here for the first 3 nights of our family holiday.
Lovely clean and warm 2 level room- quite a narrow staircase but plenty of space down stairs to store our luggage.
Breakfast was included in our room price and both the children loved coming down to fresh crepes and eggs each morning. Staff at breakfast were lovely as were reception who helped organise transport to the train station for an early morning departure.
In a quiet area of Prague but walking distance to everything youll want to see.
Would definitely stay here again

This hotel is very quaint. It is on a main road and a team stop is at the front of the building. Very central and convenient. Nice breakfasts. Easy to get around. Near the river and a short walk to Charles Bridge - great photo opportunities.

We found the location of this hotel excellent. A very good tram route on the door step. Having arrived late due a cancelled train from Berlin, we were made very welcome. The hotel is uptodatein it’s aminities but retaining the traditional Czech style. It is near all attractions either walking or tram rides, ( trams free for over 70’s with identification)
The breakfast menu is very good a good range of hot and cold meats fruit and cereals.
Nice restaurant also for lunch or evening meals.

Highly recommend this local restaurant! Tucked away in the Hotel U Kriżė, this very inviting tastefully decorated gem is both reasonable and delicious!

John makes his own beer - you must try his dark homemade brew! We had pig’s knee, goulash and duck which was all cooked to perfection! The side accompaniments are made to enjoy not as garnish. This is a true taste of local cooking with reasonable prices!

Enjoy!!
