Detailed Reviews
The hotel is on a perfect location - everything what one needs to see in the first visit to Prague is just a few minutes of walking away. However, the location has its "price" - might get a bit noisy during the night. The best thing about the hotel is the stuff - very friendly, helpful and efficient. We felt really good there, especially given the fact we are in covid times.

Cerny Slon or the Black Elephant hotel is perfectly situated in the Old Town area. Location is constantly buzzing but particularly in the evenings/night which can mean there is a bit of noise to deal with. The small elevator is very helpful as our room was on the 2nd floor and carting cases up and down would have been a nuisance. There was no air conditioning in the rooms on this level - not a huge issue for us but might have been in another month or two.
Only issue for us was the slight odour coming from the bathroom - I noticed the same sewage smell from some of the grates around the old town area when walking around, so I assume this is just part and parcel of the area. We stayed for 4 nights - rooms are large and had a big window which we kept open due to the warm weather we had. Included breakfast covered the basics without being anything to rave about. Overall we were happy with our stay.

We stayed 3 nights at this lovely old hotel, 50 m from Old Town Square. The booking was easy and the hotel very responsive. Great welcome when we arrived with lots of suggestions for things to do. Our room was on the first floor and very comfortable, with a super traditional painted wooden ceiling. A warm room, well equipped and comfortable bed. Great bathroom and shower, very clean and well equipped with lots of storage space. Breakfasts were served from 7 till 10 - lots of variety - hot and cold food. Check out was easy and prices very good value indeed. We will go to Prague again and we will definitely stay here!

We stayed here around new year 2020. We had arranged with the hotel for a car pick up from the main station. All this was done through email. The driver was waiting for us at the pre arranged meeting place and drove us quickly and safely to the hotel. It is wise to ask your hotel to arrange a pick up from your point of arrival. We were checked in by the friendly receptionist and we took the small quaint lift to the second floor. Our room was huge with king sized bed and even an extra couch. The bathroom was also huge. Furniture is quaint. We had dinner one night in the bar area which was served by the very friendly and capable bar staff. We had not booked dinner so we’re unable to be seated in the restaurant. This turned out to be a blessing as the bar area was much more relaxed. Like some others we found the breakfast could be improved. Food was not replenished so there was less choice if you weren’t there early. Bringing slices of bread in ones hands from the kitchen is not a good look. In such a beautiful vaulted room one would hope to be greeted by a friendly staff member. This was not the case. However we could not fault the reception or bar staff who were friendly and very helpful in helping tourists to find their way around. The hotel is very convenient, a very short walk to the old town square and for us at that time of the year it’s wonderful Christmas market, and easy walks to all other places of interest. Turn left out of the hotel and wander the streets for an interest and not so touristy part of Prague. Prague is a wonderful city for walking, getting lost and eventually finding your way. We enjoyed our stay at the Cerny Slon.

The best location in the heart of the old Prague. Situated in a historical house from 14th century, few steps from Starometske Namesti, is a fantastic place for citybreak in Prague. All historical attractions are just around a corner. The hotel offers well equipped rooms with bathrooms, minibars TV and selection of tea. Beds are very comfortable. WiFi works without issues. Breakfasts are served in a restaurant located in a beautiful gothic room. The restaurant offers also Czech cuisine, we tried few of dishes, all of them were very tasty. The personnel is very helpful and polite.
For sure I return to this place in future!

Can't say enough wonderful things about this charming hotel. Wonderful location on lovely small street at Old Town square, even though it was near the square it was pretty quiet. Elevator (only up to 2nd floor) took us up to our rooms with lovely old world charm and beamed & stenciled ceilings. The rooms were very clean! They also served a beautiful buffet breakfast (it's worth the fee) in a small warm and quaint restaurant on main floor. We also had dinner there a couple of nights and the menu was good and the food, very good!
Now the staff.....the kitchen people, cleaning people, waiters in the adjoining bar all Excellent! We dealt with the front desk staff the most, they all were extremely helpful with everything. Lucas during the day was so helpful, knowledgeable and wonderful to talk to. Lukas at night desk was also great, knowledgeable and good to talk to. We both had a wonderful experience at this hotel and if I should return, Hotel Cerny Slon is where I stay and I have already told friends.

Restaurant only. We came across this by chance one evening while we were looking for somewhere to eat for our evening meal. It certainly didn’t disappoint and was so good that we ate there for two consecutive evenings and a lunch on our last day in Prague. We tried various meals including the 1/2 roast duck with red cabbage and potato dumplings, roast lamb shank with spinach and herby potatoes and medallions of pork and all were cooked to perfection. Nothing pretentious just honest good home cooked fare and excellent portions and quality. The service is friendly, attentive but not obtrusive. By way of an example, for our first evening meal we had 2 mains meals as described above, a glass of wine, beer, dessert plus discretionary tip all for £50.
Given the location is just behind the Old Town Square, this was fabulous value and definitely more ‘bang for your buck’ than some of the restaurants in the Old Town Square. I would recommend to anyone visiting Prague. Don’t be out off if it appears quiet - this is certainly no reflection of what to expect! A gem hiding in plain sight.

The hotel is just off the main square so easy access to everything. Obviously, you get a bit of noise which is normal if you want to stay central. Its small and very traditional. The beds were very comfortable. We found the staff very friendly and helpful; they gave us lots of directions and suggestions. Receptionist ordered a taxi for return to the airport which was cheaper than one we hopped in on arrival. Breakfast was ok, quite basic. The Hotel is very reasonably priced for a very central location which suited us perfectly .

Found the restaurant by chance and booked for that evening. Great friendly welcome, quaint restaurant area which, given the prime location, was surprisingly serene without the local noise. Service was top notch, courteous, polite and attentive. Food was very very good. 2 courses each and 2 large beers 30 quid!

Visited restaurant as a walk-in and were delighted they had a table available. Interesting menu with a variety of dishes making it difficult to chose. I finally chose the ‘Black elephant’ skewer which was absolutely delicious as was the other three meals our party chose. Only criticisms was the waiters lack of knowledge of the wines on the menu and the way they tried to push the extras onto us which we may have ordered had they taken card payments. OverallVery good value for money and will definitely be back

I was on the second floor and my friend on third floor (counting American style where the ground floor is the first floor) and both were accessible by elevator. From the lobby, you do have to go down 3 or 4 easy steps to get to the elevator. I don’t think the elevator goes all the way up to the very top/attic level floor.
