Its location was superb, I mean as good as it might get. People working there was really helpful, especially with where to visit, why to visit and etc. Wandering around town became meaningful because of the help we got. Also, we had a very comfortable sleep, beds were A+ for sure. The ceiling of the room we were in was lovely too. Waking up to that made my day brighter. Oh, breakfast was standard though. Do not expect much. All in all, I will probably choose the same place to stay if I visit Prague again.
We stayed here around new year 2020. We had arranged with the hotel for a car pick up from the main station. All this was done through email. The driver was waiting for us at the pre arranged meeting place and drove us quickly and safely to the hotel. It is wise to ask your hotel to arrange a pick up from your point of arrival. We were checked in by the friendly receptionist and we took the small quaint lift to the second floor. Our room was huge with king sized bed and even an extra couch. The bathroom was also huge. Furniture is quaint. We had dinner one night in the bar area which was served by the very friendly and capable bar staff. We had not booked dinner so we’re unable to be seated in the restaurant. This turned out to be a blessing as the bar area was much more relaxed. Like some others we found the breakfast could be improved. Food was not replenished so there was less choice if you weren’t there early. Bringing slices of bread in ones hands from the kitchen is not a good look. In such a beautiful vaulted room one would hope to be greeted by a friendly staff member. This was not the case. However we could not fault the reception or bar staff who were friendly and very helpful in helping tourists to find their way around. The hotel is very convenient, a very short walk to the old town square and for us at that time of the year it’s wonderful Christmas market, and easy walks to all other places of interest. Turn left out of the hotel and wander the streets for an interest and not so touristy part of Prague. Prague is a wonderful city for walking, getting lost and eventually finding your way. We enjoyed our stay at the Cerny Slon.…
We booked a four-night stay for our first visit to Prague. The hotel was exactly what we were looking for: a small, charming hotel, perfectly located just off the main square in Old Town. In fact, all the sites we wanted to see on both sides of the river were an easy walk from the hotel. Our room was very comfortable and quiet. The food and service in the restaurant was excellent. However, what really stood out for us was the hotel staff. They were all extremely friendly and attentive under normal circumstances, but when our travel plans were disrupted by Covid-19 issues, the front desk staff helped up re-arrange our rail and air travel reservations. For your staff, a rating of 5 is not high enough. When we return to Prague, we will, without a doubt, stay again at Hotel Cerny Slon.…
Visited restaurant as a walk-in and were delighted they had a table available. Interesting menu with a variety of dishes making it difficult to chose. I finally chose the ‘Black elephant’ skewer which was absolutely delicious as was the other three meals our party chose. Only criticisms was the waiters lack of knowledge of the wines on the menu and the way they tried to push the extras onto us which we may have ordered had they taken card payments. OverallVery good value for money and will definitely be back
This 13th Century property - which, according to a plaque inside - is a UNESCO-designated building, is THE perfect location if you want to be next to the Old Town Square (but not IN IT). It is literally less than a minute's walk...and maybe 3 or 4 minutes to the Astronomical Clock (though it could be much longer....it all depends on how many tourists are in the square at any given moment). There is an abundance of bars, coffee shops, restaurants, shops, live jazz in a hidden alleyway, you-name-it, all within 2 or 3 minutes from the entrance to Cerny Slon. We booked for 3 girlfriends, and had 3 single beds in one of the attic rooms. All perfectly serviceable though the furniture and overall look to the room (and the hallways) was very dated. Note that the elevator only takes you to the level below the attic; you must bring up your suitcase up that last set of not-entirely-even stairs. The room was sizeable with two small windows through which a bit of light and air came through; during our visit the AC was not working so I'd hate to think how hot that room must get during the warmer months. The bathroom was dated but suitable for our purposes. It had a bath and the water pressure for the shower was quite good and a welcome surprise given the age of the building. The staff, with the exception of the lady overseeing breakfast, was very friendly. While there were language challenges with the lady overseeing breakfast, there was also a very clear negative attitude from her. She kicked out a couple after they finished eating although the breakfast cut-off time had not yet occurred. The breakfast itself was decent and included in the price, although, be advised to show up on the earlier end as not once during our 3 mornings did we see the breakfast lady refill any of the offerings once they ran out. The property will store your luggage before and after check-in/out. And while the building does have new elevators (though as noted before, not servicing the entirety of it), it does not have much of a lounge for you to sit and wait for your room to be ready (after we'd walked and walked and walked). While we did not have drinks nor dinner on the property, it appeared they get a decent amount of foot traffic despite its quasi-hidden location. Finally, and possibly most importantly, the outside noise. While the building is not on the Old Town Square proper nor on a main offshoot from it, we discovered that we are a couple dozen feet away from a sports bar (of all things!) which is located on Týnská ulička (the property sits on a corner of this street). Like clockwork after midnight, drunks stumbled out of that bar at regular intervals until closing time at 3am. And it was as though they stumbled into our room, so vibrant and loud was the sound. Doubt that much can be done about that; the property certainly doesn't have soundproof windows, so my recommendation would be to avoid rooms facing Týnská ulička. If not possible, consider it a small price to pay for the location and the moderate pricing.…
