Response from Martina J, Manažer at Salvator Hotel Carlsbad

Dear Mr. Niels, Thank you for choosing Salvator Hotel for your stay and taking the time to share your feedback here with us. I'm sorry the exchange rate you paid at the restaurant was wrong. We use the exchange rate of the Czech National Bank. Within a few days, guests will pay the restaurant bill together with the hotel bill. Your complaint about the cleaning team that came while the guest was still in the room will definitely be resolved. If guests stay in the room all day, they have the opportunity to put the sign "Do not disturb" on the door.

We booked this hotel through booking.com and paid for an air conditioned room. When we arrived the room allocated to us was not air conditioned and had a view of the side of a rock and a metal fire escape. The temperature outside was 36C and was extremely hot and uncomfortable. I was very worried to sleep in the room because I suffer with asthma and the high temperature could make breathing difficult without air con. We complained to Dagmar on reception that we had paid for an air conditioned room and showed her the booking that clearly stated this. She said that only 5 rooms had air conditioning and our room did not. We could not change our room because she said that the hotel was fully booked. We asked her what she was going to do because of my breathing difficulties and begrudgingly she provided a small desk fan that did very little apart from blowing the hot air around. When eventually we decided to brave going into our room the fan that was given to us had stopped working and when we had got into bed a bat suddenly flew into the room and was frantically flapping around our heads. We shot out the room and complained to the Night Porter who had to deal with getting the bat out. Obviously we had a very uncomfortable night, I had to take my inhaler constantly and we were worried the bat would come back because we could not shut the windows due to the intense heat. The next day with very little sleep we complained again and were refused any refund and Dagmar just shrugged her shoulders and didn’t seem to care. No compensation of any sort was offered and all in all was a very stressful and uncomfortable stay. I would not recommend staying in this hotel or using booking.com who equally did very little to help the situation.

10-days stay with full board and medical program have made me and my wife feel a real relaxation. The chief never made the same dish twice during our stay, I would especially recommend duck and cutlets from three kinds of meet. A standard room was spacious and fresh, and had a regular window beside of the two attic ones (I think that two other rooms at the 5th floor have attic windows only). Everybody starting from reception to waiters and nurses are very attentive. Pearl bath and massages are pleasant and helpful. 100 m from colonnade and cigar room on the 1st floor add to the comfortable stay. Special thanks to all the staff, especially - to Marek and Teresa (because of them and of the chief we never had a thought about eating outside). I would love to repeat the experience next year. By the way, Peter the Great stayed at this very building in 2017 (photo)!

Room Tip: I loved it in attic (5th floor), but in the summertime the rooms with balconies would be appropriate

Karlovy Vary is a beautiful spa town just under two hours drive from Prague. The eatery by the river that stood out above all others was The Salvator Hotel. The hotel was beautifully, furnished and everywhere was spotless. We only had cakes and coffees, and returned later in the day for further refreshments. The staff were helpful and charming, would love to visit during the summer months.
