First of all, this place is not your regular hotel. It is a state run health sanatorium for patients recovering from various illnesses. They sell overcapacity to tourists. It is full of Russians because the whole of Karlovy Vary is very popular with Russians. Now, this place is very very quiet at night, a blessing for those city slickers. If you can get a room at the rear, away from the street it will also get pitch black, meaning you get a great sleep. And last, this place was very, very clean. The other side of the coin - this place has been outdated, kind of IKEA style furniture from 50th. It does breathe the communist era on you. Language might be a barrier during breakfast as the breakfast procedure is rather complicated. You need to get seated by the staff due to the fact that patients are getting different diet pending their illnesses and their dining tables are preset. That is why you will get a card for your meals at the check in, which you need to present at breakfast, or lunch and dinner if you booked full board meal allowance. I don't recommend full board, but breakfast was satisfactory, simple but fresh. Lastly, if you have time I recommend you book some of the bath health procedures, it's reasonably priced, very professional, well worth the money and time. After all that's what Karlovy Vary is all about. I give this place a thumb up, however if you require pampering by staff in english or german stay elsewhere. …
We stayed at the hotel during the film festival in Karlovy Vary so our main aim was to have a good accommodation with breakfast and parking for a reasonable price and within a walking distance from the center. The building is a quiet and nice villa surrounded by forest and park. Good location for relaxing, however, to reach the centre you have to walk 15-20mins downhill/uphill/through the park. The room we had was very small, with shower instead of a bath tub and two beds pulled together (although it was sold as 'deluxe' room for two), the furnishing is rather old-stylish. The room was rather clean. We had to park our car on the street instead of the yard which was advertised. The reception staff was not helpful at all. Terrible experience at the breakfast: 1/ the breakfast times are 7,30-9,30 which did not suit us as the film festival started at 8,00 2/ poor selection and quality of food - this is NOT Czech style at all! 3/ you are told where to sit although there are two large dining halls which were not even half full and, what is more, they sit some other people you do not know to your table to save space. This place is fine if you need AN accommodation in Karlovy Vary, however, if you want to enjoy your stay, I would recommend to look somewhere else. Also full of Russians.…
Location is great, but I can't say I had a good experience in Manes (and Eden, which belongs to the same hotel complex); During the 6 days I stayed... nobody ever came to clean the room, not even change towels and sheets! The reception people were rather indifferent and the breakfast inadequate. Also, the restaurant was closing quite early and did not have a wide selection to choose from; just beer and some basic meals. The only thing that worked well was the spa section; personnel there were friendly and attentive.
I stayed at this hotel for a week. The hotel offers Soviet-style rooms and service. I paid for the highest category/price suite but when checking in they gave me something else and did not even bother to tell me. When I complained, the receptionist laughed at me and said that the room I booked was not available. They offered no apology and no refund despite of my complaints. Most guests in the hotel are from Russia. They say that they come there because it's cheaper than similar resorts in Russia and same service. Hardly a compliment... The building looks pretty from the outside but same old 70th style and quality and complete disregard for common sense in design. For example, the shower-holder in the bathroom is at your knee level (I stayed in a room with bathtub - no shower). There is no way to take a shower or even wash your head without holding the shower in one hand and splashing the water on the floor - there are no curtains or glass walls to keep the water in the bathtub. Oh, and once the water is on the floor it has nowhere to go. And since they clean the rooms only every other day... Small uncomfortable beds. Hotel is in a very quiet place, at the end of the street. You have to walk about 15-20 min to the town. I like to walk so that worked for me well but be aware that you have to walk up and down the hills. Spa procedures are cheap comparing to many other resorts in Karlsbad with comparable quality. Don't expect to be pampered but you'll get a good massage, mineral bath etc. in basic facilities. Doctor does not seem to act as a doctor but more as a salesman for the spa procedures. Unless the doctor's visit is already in your package, paying for it is a waist of time and money - it's about the price of a good 1h massage. I only had breakfast at the hotel and the food is good if you want to loose weight - it's enough to look at it to loose your appetite. I wouldn't buy lunch or dinner there even though it's very cheap if you add it to your hotel package. Food in the nearby restaurants is inexpensive as well. I would not stay there again.…
Hotel Manes is in a very quiet part of Karlovy Vary, in the shadow of the Diana lookout tower. Unfortunately, it's also quite a walk from the main part of town, which is nasty when you've had a few too many Becherovkas; a bus stops outside the hotel, but its schedule is infrequent. Nevertheless, the hotel is clean and the breakfast is typical central European: lots of cold meats, bread and scant vegetables/fruits. The staff are friendly and helpful, however it helps if you speak Czech (or Russian), as their English is often scant. As the title suggests, I wish I'd had time to receive a massage, considering the hotel is mainly billed as a centre of relaxation. I've rated sleep quality as average mainly because the sun blasts through the curtains early each morning.
