The hotel is a good value choice in Karlovy Vary. Lots of polished wood and brass, with everything spotlessly clean. The rooms were fine for a short stay but not spacious; there was a small balcony. Breakfast was adequate. The hotel is well located near the start of the walk up to the Diana tower viewpoint, and just a short walk into the town centre. There is secure parking available.

Very unfriendly staff. We always had the impression we were disturbing. As a welcome to the restaurant we only received a barge “cards” (for the room cards). There was no answer to good morning. Simple English was not understood, German anyway. This made communication very difficult. Drink orders were not taken up, plates were not cleared... there were already 8:30 no coffee cups. Food was fine. Breakfast mediocre. There was hard bread and rolls. Pool was nice but there were no other seating except for two chairs. Thus, it was not possible to linger at the pool, for example between treatments. You could not book any further treatments on site. This should have been reserved in advance. On the homepage, however, you won't find any offers for this; we had looked extra. Parking is small and mostly full. You have to park downtown. Bottom line, we're not coming back.

Friendly welcome. The room was very clean and large. Large selection for breakfast, everything you need was there. Buffet in the evening with a great and tasty selection. The wellness area and massage offers are highly recommended. We felt very comfortable and would come back. The only problem if you have problems with your feet is that getting into the bathtub and shower is very high and there are no handrails.

My wife and I stayed here for a long weekend to let our hair down and to visit Karlovy vary and this hotel certainly did the trick. A comfortable 10 minute stroll to the centre of town and also directly at the start of the nice hike to the top of the hill. The rooms are very comfortable, clean and spacious and the wellness area was very nice. The included meals in the half-board package are really fair for the price.

Having read the most critical reviews, I was prepared for a real disappointment, but got a pleasant surprise when we got upgraded to a spacious room with an adjactent part allowing each of us friends to have a private space. I admit that the windows are old, but that is a part of it´s charm. And the furniture and the bed were not at all in any bad condition, on the contrary. The cleaning was very good in every part of the hotel and also the spa gave a very good feeling. The spa treatments are of good quelity and Ms Irene taking care of the baths makes one feel very comfortable. We had a spa package prebooked, but in spite of mailing the hotel on beforehand they did not respond on my mail and we couldn´t get any information about the treatments available and if we had possibility to choose anything. So on Monday morning, without having met a doctor or a nurse each of us just got a paper with some for us unknown treatments prebooked. In my opinion a guest should get a chance to information and of possibilities to choose, I mean not everyone can take baths or have an unspecified massage. I was "lucky" and liked the ones pre-scheduled, it was baths and back massage. But my friend had problems with changing her scheduled treatments (they actually asked why we have purchased them in the first place- considering that we had no choice to choose the treatments that was a really bad comment made!), After having called our tour organiser the changing problem finally was solved. The pool has a floor of a kind of aluminium which gives a good fresh feeling. Even if the pool indeed is small, one has to think that it´s an old buildning and not a sports hall, and there were several moments when I could have a swim on my own, and swimming around in the pool gave a very nice experience because of the window part. The dining part was nice and gave a "Penzion"-feeling. We especially liked some of the staff there, they greatly contributed to the positive athmosphere while having breakfast and dinner. The last day of our stay they had a day off and we noticed that the bread slices had green dots - meaning that it definitely weren´t day fresh...On the breakfast buffe I especially liked a kind of porridge they served with milk. And they had a rich collection of tasty herbal tea infusions. The weakest aspect of the hotel is that apart from the young man at the restaurant almost no one spoke English, so we couldn´t get any information about what to see and where to go in the proximity of the hotel. The hotel itself is located on a height, but in it´s proximity there is an even higher mountain in the forest that leads to Jeleni Skok which has an amazing view of the old Karlsbad, not to miss :) The way to get to the hotel is going upwards, but it´s not so steep that a person with a normal condition cannot get there. In fact it´s good having a slow walk up back to the hotel after having spent an afternoon down in the centre of the old Karlsbad. Knowing what I know now, I can consider coming back to the Smetana Vysehrad again. It´s definitely a priceworthy alternative; not 4 stars, but cozy!

You have bought Relax package and at the website booking.com, you have the information what this package includes: half board - welcome drink - Bohemia sekt (0,375 l) - 1x procedure per day (massage or hot tub bath) - entrance to the swimming pool and wellness. Our head nurse prepares a schedule with 1 x massage and 1 bath for each client. The client receives these procedures at the reception upon arrival. In case the client cannot or does not want the procedures that he has booked through the booking he solves it with the head nurse. We are sorry for caused inconveniences during your stay at the hotel.

Nice hotel with a grand look. Room was clean and spacious and had a big balcony. We did not try the spa area. The pool looked small but ok to swim in. Breakfast was also ok but not grand. Coffee from coffeemachines are seldom good. Staff was very helpful and friendly. All i all a nice middleclass hotell with a little extra for the old grand house.

The exterior of the hotel promised great things. But.. The room however was unfortunately very outdated and looked more like a hostel than a hotel. Not worth the price at all. The shower had to be run for minutes before getting warm water. We even asked the reception about it, and the answer was keep on running the water. Not an experience you look forward having in a 4 star spa hotel.
