This is a very nice lodge. The rooms are in individual bungalows that overlook the river. The rooms are very large and spacious. There is an inside sitting area, king sized bed, desk/work station and large bathroom with a double vanity and full sized bathtub. A balcony overlooks the river with an outside sitting area, dip pool and outside shower. All and all a really nice and well laid room.

The common areas are equally good. The restaurant and bar area are spacious and open. They overlook a swimming pool and the river.

The food was very good. Serena does a good job of offering their guests several choices even at such a remote location. The quality of the food was really good as well.

Service was outstanding throughout the entire camp. Everyone was very kind, helpful and the service at meals was prompt.

Wifi is pretty slow and sometimes down but overall it is kind of what I expected in such a remote location. It is not great but you can get by most of the time.

The only real drawback of lodge is the oppressive heat. In the afternoon, it would get between 95-97 degrees F (35 C). Serena advertises the rooms as airconditioned and they are. The problem is the A/C simply can’t keep up during the afternoon. It is Africa and you expect it to be hot. However, if Serena is going to advertise the rooms as airconditioned it needs to equip them with A/C units that are better. During the heat of the day, these units didn’t provide much relief from the heat.

That said, I would stay at this property again if returning to Selous.

We stayed here for 3 nights and this was the best place me and my partner have ever stayed. It was complete perfection and exceeded every expectation. The lodges were incredible and after every safari our jacuzzi would be run ready for our return. Every single member of staff were friendly and incredibly attentive, nothing was ever too much trouble. The game rangers especially Simone was amazing, always asked what we wanted to see and through his knowledge we were never let down. After safari we were always met with cold towels to cool us down. Food was also incredible couldn’t fault it was absolutely delicious every night. We mentioned in passing it was my partners birthday and the staff went to such effort singing him a song and making him a personalised cake that was absolutely delicious. We have gone on to Zanzibar for 5 nights and all we can think is how we wish we were back at mivumo river lodge. Can’t wait to return

We spent four nights at Mivumo Serena Lodge and we absolutely loved it! Its location is fantastic - on the banks of Rufiji River where you can see hippos, crocodiles and even leopards sunbathing.

Very spacious rooms with all amenities and beautiful traditional decoration, having breathtaking views of the Rufiji River. Great food and excellent service. Alex & the whole Mivumo Serena team made our stay special.

Special thanks to our safari guide Jumbe who went above and beyond to make our every day game drives unforgettable. The river safari, sundowners and breakfast / lunches in the bush next to the different lakes of the game reserve & elephant / hippo herds were absolutely top notch!

Highly recommended if you are looking for a special lodge in a unique location at Selous Game Reserve.

Highlight of our stay in Tanzania
Beautiful hotel, attentive service, from the way our driver Francis received us at the airstrip to the services provided at the hotel. Stock up on the insect repellant due to tsetse flies. Very serene and you wake up to the sounds of nature and hippos in the nearby river. You may spot the hyrax, bushbaby, baboons, crocodiles and hippos in the hotel. Last night in the lodge the chef surprised us with the local dishes: such a lovely gesture! Food was good and I 💯 % recommend the lodge for your stay.

From the moment I was greeted by Richard, my guide for the week, off the plane i was treated to the most incredible experience on what will now be my first safari rather than my only. The lodges are beautiful with each one secluded enough that you feel alone, while the bar and restaurant area allows for socialising should you wish. The service from the entire team is top notch, with special mentions for Richard, Emil and Jacob who looked after me wonderfully.
The location of the lodge on the river allows for an interesting combination of experiences by taking a boat and seeing the hippos and crocodiles up close before jumping in the jeep and taking off for the bush and the lakes to try and track down the elusive leopards. Our guards reported hearing them at night, but I never got to see one during the day, so clearly a return visit is required to tick them off the list.
The location itself is quite steep - getting to and from the jeeps and into and out of your lodge can be tricky for those who aren’t very mobile, but knowing that beforehand would allow you to be prepared and make extra time for getting about on site.

We spent one night in Serena Mivunk River lodge. The lodge is located in the middle of Selous National Park. You can see the sunrise from your balcony while watching hippos and crocodiles beneath you swimming in the river. Birds are singing, hippos are laughing, hyraxes screaming while you are having you shower or jacuzzi bath on your own balcony. Staff is super nice- great food and service. Rangers are passionate and committed to serve you with the best ever safari experience. We even saw a female lion just having hunted a wild hog and carrying it to her cubs. The whole lion family had their meal right in front of our eyes. A true once in a lifetime experience.... Enjoy the peace and purity of nature together with the excellent staff. Thanks for your hospitality! ❤️

The Mivumo Hotel in Selous Game Reserve is amazing. The location allows guests to enjoy the best views in the Park, listen and see incredible animals at night when taking a rest at those incredible cottages.
And the staff, they can't be more kind and at all times available to help!
Food is also delicious.
Just the best experience ever to celebrate the Silver Wedding with my husband and 4 children!

My wife and I 3 night stay at this wonderful lodge at the beginning of February .
We did have a slight upset at the start of our safari in Selous as our flight landed us on an airstrip outside the park and there was consequently a problem with our park permits.
All was forgotten though as we went on to have 3 days of game viewing with our guide, Richard, who was the most courteous and proficient driver & guide.
The tracks throughout the reserve had all been seriously affected by heavy rainfall prior to our visit & were almost impassible in places, however Richard got us around the routes both expertly & safely.
Our previous safari had been in The Serengeti where game is undoubtedly more plentiful however this reserve trumps it in many ways for it’s scenery & diversity, not forgetting The Rufiji River setting of the lodge, adds real character to the journey.
The lodge cabins sit out on a high bluff overlooking the river where Hippos & Crocodiles reside.
The cabins are really comfortable and the food is very very good.
The staff are all really friendly and approachable and Alex the lodge manager went out of his way to look after us.
All in all , a great way to see The Selous area

A week after our stay here, it’s still hard to put into words how to sum up our safari with Serena.
From the moment we arrived at the airstrip to the moment were dropped off, Able, our guide, took great care of us. He was highly professional, highly knowledgeable, his tracking abilities are extraordinary and took us on an experience we’ll never forget. It was just the two of us for the 5 days with Able, so it felt very personalised.
We also took an evening and morning boat down the river where we were rewarded with even more incredible experiences! Boatman Zak’s knowledge and spotting skills were also first class.
Back at the river lodge, the staff couldn’t do enough for us and our meals overlooking the river were unforgettable. Our lodge was so spacious and extremely comfortable and we loved the outside shower.
It was the most unforgettable experience.

Hi Rebecca thank you choosing Serena Mivumo River Lodge concerning weather it is raining most the time but is not cold in such a way that you need jumpers kindly note that there is no tsetse flies at the lodge but you will experience them when you go out for game watching also the vegetation of Mivumo River Lodge doesn't support mosquito's life so there is less mosquitoes. you advised to put on long sleeves and clothes which is not dark colored since tsetse flies are attracted with dark colored
