We found the key operated height barrier operated by a warden closing the barrier with a length of rope by first unlocking it with a key then letting a car carrying a top box or a large camper van through and then locking it after you enter/ exit totally archaic. We mentioned that most caravan and camping sites now use an electronic gate where you enter a code to let yourself in or out at will but were told the method had always worked well. As a matter of fact sadly for some it most definitely doesn’t. It is a park that is very handily placed to camp or caravan there as many beautiful places such as Cheddar Gorge, Weston- Super- Mare etc are within easy reach. We overnighted there last year and also this year on our way to and from our holiday in Cornwall for which the site is ideally placed to break a long journey. Sadly last year we knew about the 9 pm curfew of the height barrier and and slipped out and back as described ‘ for fish and chips. After making it back under the barrier in time we were met by a distraught camper van owner that said he wasn’t aware of the curfew and his children were upset and they were all hungry but couldn’t go out for a meal at one of the many pubs and restaurants in the area. He said the wonderful smell of our fish and chips made it even worse for them all. He asked if we knew of anything such as a Chinese takeaway that would deliver to the site. Sadly we only knew of the restaurants, pubs and chippy that were close but not within walking distance. We will never know if they got food from anywhere. We would have fetched chips for them but we were too let to be let back out through the barrier This year I had heard of and seen lovely photos of the Burnham on Sea lighthouse which is an iconic wooden structure on the beach. I had totally forgotten the curfew and couldn’t go out to capture a sunset there. As an amateur photographer I was gutted. We could have left our car in the car park on return I imagine but as our caravan is a very small two berth all of my camera equipment is left in the car so leaving it well away from our van was out of the question. It’s a very clean site with all amenities with this one very big ( excuse the pun) bar to it being a great site. It is definitely not suitable for large camper vans as you will not be allowed through the barrier and back to your pitch later than 8.30 pm ( last year it was 9 pm ) Being locked in made us feel like children and it’s absolutely ridiculous passing lovely pubs/ restaurants on your way to the site knowing you are not allowed to go. Photographers flock to this area and most are interested in doing sunsets- if you are you had best forget this site if your car has a top box or if you are in a large camper van. Sadly we have to choose another site for our next trip to Cornwall and we had also been considering a longer stay to visit more places in the area till we were reminded of that barrier. Still amazed at having to wait for someone to come to let us in and out at our ages. I would laugh but it’s not funny just very very annoying !

I’ve stayed here for last few years and it’s a great place - lovely open field, great play park for the kids, great pitches, shower/toilet blocks lovely and clean (it’s a bit rubbish having to press the shower button every 5 seconds) - don’t come when they are mowing the fields though as all I’ve heard for the last 4 days is the tractor and mower going around! I know it’s got to be done, but there goes my peaceful week 😂😂 can be quite noisy if you are nearer the road!

I can't sing the praises of this caravan park enough, we have our caravan here and have done for over a year now. the site is beautiful and clean with great parks for the children and lovely facilities for washing and cleaning. This is a Family run working farm and caravan park so you see tractors and hear animals which is lovely. There is no clubhouse which makes this place even nicer as no rowdiness and no trouble. We will be keeping the caravan here for the foreseeable future :)
