Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our time at the French Leave Resort. The property was beautiful and the staff was great. Eleuthera is not for everyone, but we really enjoyed it and are glad that we chose to go there for a long weekend. Property - The property is gorgeous. The villas are well finished and even though we were not on the first row, we still had a wonderful view of the ocean. The restaurant was very good and was relatively quick with room service. While the prices are high ($20 drinks, $20 pizzas, etc.), they are in line with the prices on the rest of the island and much like what you would find in places like Hawaii. The food was of great quality and the drinks were very good. The pool is awesome. Having your own golf cart was also great and necessary. The beach was absolutely gorgeous. Staff - The staff was awesome. They were quick to fulfill requests. They were always friendly and active in ensuring our needs were met. Nigel was great; as were Ricardo and the other staff members. Pros - It was a very enjoyable experience. The property never felt crowded, in fact most of the time you wouldn't even know anyone else was there even though they were at or near full capacity. Ice and water service was a necessity and they fulfilled all requests promptly. The restaurant is great but I would definitely recommend going out as well (Da Perk, Buccaneers, Tippy's, etc.). The beach was perfect and there were like 10 people at most on the beach at any given time. Cons - We went during off season so a lot of the restaurants in "town" were closed, so options were limited. The bugs were rampant at times, but I only had to apply bug spray a handful of times. The roads on Eleuthera could use some work, but as long as you are paying attention to what you are doing, you should be good. Tips: Go to the liquor store to get some libations for your room (the one outside ELH seemed to have the best prices, but if you forget there are two in town, with a decent selection) Bring bugs spray and/or wipes (Deet is your friend) Rent a SUV and go explore We didn't have enough time, but our friends rented a charter near Spanish Wells and enjoyed it. Also, we didn't get down there buy many people told us we had to take a day and visit Lighthouse Beach. Apparently it is beyond gorgeous and time is running out to see it in its natural state before Disney ruins it by spreading Mickey's empire. Bring some bread or vegetables to French Leave Beach to feed the Angel Fish that will swarm you whether or not you have food. But watch uncovered nipples...they apparently believe they are food (although they can't really hurt you) Make sure you turn off all the lights in your room and the light outside the door before you leave the room. At night the moths are bad and they will swarm inside your room when you open the door if you leave the lights on. Overall it was a wonderful experience and we look forward to returning in the future.

We just returned from our summer vacation from Eleuthera. I will start off by saying that everyone we met and dealt with on the Island were friendly and very hospitable. I will start with the Resort staff, Chuck really helped us with everything before arriving but while we were there for the week, Nigile is the one to attended to us. Nigile made us feel like we were the only ones at the resort, arranged tours and gave us spot on recommendations for sights as well as restaurants. We had done our homework before arriving, but Nigile confirmed everything we had researched. The resort consists of about 20 Vilas, very cozy atmosphere and beautiful surroundings. I was told to leave the resort to get the local flavor which we did, but it was great to get back to upscale accommodations and great dining. The location is also in the middle of the Island(Govenors Harbor) which is convenient to see the whole Island. Overall, great place to stay and highly recommend it especially if traveling with kids. Enjoy

This resort and the staff were absolutely amazing! We can't stop thinking about the wonderful time we spent here. The resort is small enough that you almost have a private pool and beach at times. The beach is absolutely the best beach I've ever been to. The most people we encountered was probably 10 people on the beach and we were spread which was great. The food and drinks although pricey (you are on an island so I expect that), were very good. Tour the old Club Med while at the beach. It is cool to see. The golf carts with coolers may be the best feature we've come across at a beach resort. There is not much to do in town but it provided us with everything we needed for our stay. We would gladly return.

After being threatened and kicked out of Tippy’s restaurant and after dodging a large rock thrown by the nasty, drunken “owner/bartender”, over a minor complaint about a watery cocktail, we decided to eat dinner at the French Leave. Best decision. We briefly told them about our experience, to which they were mortified, but not surprised to hear about. They promised to give us the best customer service and experience which more than made up for our not so nice experience at the other DUMP. The hospitality was like none we’d ever experienced. The food was delicious and they fish was fresh. The drinks were ice cold and just right! Our servers were fantastic, they made sure that night was the best night of our week long stay. Thank you French Leave!

This resort is unbelievable! We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived that this was a Marriot Property. Upon arrival we were greeted by Shamario (sp). He was extremely knowledgeable about the resort and the surroundings of Governor's Harbour. While we waited for our room, we had lunch at the resorts restaurant which is very good. Once in our room, we could not have been happier. Villa 12 is a 2 bed, 2 bath freestanding villa that is possibly one of the best rooms we have ever stayed in in the Out Islands of the Bahamas. The room was spotless, has a full kitchen, huge living area and huge bedrooms and bathrooms. The deck overlooks the Caribbean side of the property. Each villa comes with a golf cart and cooler attached. Ice is given daily. The beach is across the street, less than a 5 minute cart ride, and it is stunning. We never saw more than 12 people during our stay. Our only issue with this resort was the beach service. RJ was great (he also took my husband spear fishing for 3 hours!), but there should be 2 people servicing the beach. Food and drink service is available, but it can take quite some time to get your food/drinks, as they come from the restaurant. Load up the coolers!! The beach is beautiful, however, and very quiet! The pool and fitness room are incredible. There are iPads in each room for requests, and the the staff takes requests very seriously and they are very quick to respond. We ate at Bucaneers 4 times, and it is DELICIOUS!! Service is great, very casual and very good food. Tippy's is fun and fairly good as well. We love local Bahamian food, and Bucaneers is the place. The service, staff and setting of French Leave Resort is excellent. We highly recommend this resort!!! Can't wait to go back.
