My husband and I spent Thanksgiving and my birthday at La Bougainvillea and we really enjoyed it! The pool area overlooking the beach is beautiful, and the bar area is very spacious for the size of the property. The bartenders and drinks are very good. I highly recommend stopping at the bar for a drink (or many).
The rest of the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. One night while we were there they had a fashion show around the pool and the models were mostly hotel employees. We enjoyed the unique post-dinner show. Great job by everyone who participated!
The hotel has a very small boutique feel to it, as if there are only a few rooms. Although there were other people staying there, both mornings at breakfast we were the only people eating. One day we didn’t see anyone else (other than employees) until dinner time. The restaurant food is very good and attracts diners who are not staying there.
We ate dinner there only one night, and it was delicious. Some reviewers have complained about the cost of food (or drinks, or rooms), but we found the prices typical of Eleuthera and The Bahamas. Other places we ate and stayed were just as expensive if not more so. Another complaint by some seems to be the difficulty they had finding the hotel, or the road to get there. The final stretch of road is not the smoothest, but we didn’t find it to be rough or dangerous. And there was actually someone there the first day smoothing out bumpy parts of the sandy/dirt road. And using GPS will get you where you need to be, so if you do that you’ll be fine. When the road splits a minute or two after you leave the paved road, take the left side of the split to reach the main building of the hotel.
The reason I did not give 5 stars is because the room - while clean and large enough - was a little barren and empty for my taste. It didn’t feel homey or comfortable in general. A few additional pieces of furniture or swapping out existing pieces would do wonders. Our room had a small sofa but it was hard and not super comfortable to sit on.
The other issue that bothered me about the property was the pool temperature. I know that many places in the Bahamas do not heat their pools, but I don’t understand why you have a nice pool if nobody is ever going to be able to get in and swim without shivering. I would strongly urge the management to heat the pool.
Regardless of these areas that could use improvement, we would stay there again if we returned to Eleuthera.

I have personally only been to the restaurant/food market which was a lovely experience! a bit pricey but that comes with the territory; lovely seemingly greek style cafe with delicious coffee & tea selection & delicious baked goods with fine dairy options including various milk fine cheeses and even crackers (haha), served by a lovely barista staff who are kind and accommodating to all. with the views and rooms which I have just seen on their page, it truly looks spectacular; I would highly recommend it! all of this in the pineapple fields area and also right near The Levy Reserve. Book in and join the fun and games!👍 #togetherteam

It was exactly what I needed!!!! I came to LaBougainvillea solo for a friends wedding but combined it with a vacation. I met other wedding attendees who were staying there, but otherwise, after a long 14 months of hardcore essential work through the entire pandemic, I spent 5 days on this beautiful island to decompress and without fail this resort fulfilled my request. The villa has only a handful of room accommodations so no crowds. I recommend to come here for a couples getaway, honeymoon, with friends, family or solo. The GM is Julian and his customer service could not be matched, he even drove us to take a mandatory covid test to fly back to the US. The food was delicious so it’s a great place to dine, and literally you have the turquoise beach to yourself. There’s so much to see like the glass window bridge which is a natural wonder of the world, go boating, spa treatments, visit other resteraunts off property, governors harbour, and go shopping. There’s no tv (or room service after hours) I recommend getting any snacks and bottled waters in town as soon as you arrive to stock up for those late night munchies because it’s lights out after 12 midnight. Otherwise, the villas were spacious and comfy. The staff did a great job. Bring a lot of cash for taxi service or rent a car. It’s not the U.S. so don’t come expecting fast service, technology and uber. It’s a breathtaking desolate island. Highly recommended!!!

a true dream location, pink secluded beach, clear turquoise waters, refreshing to relax in. Quiet resort. Julian (Mgr) is warm, welcoming and very accommodating. Staff and long-time guests are eager to share local stories/recommendations. Menu items are a bit pricey but delish! Saw 10am and 5pm sharks. Great central location. Minutes drive to town, gas, liquor/grocery stores, restaurants, atm... thank you all for an unforgettable vacation. Especially the staff: Terrence, Valentino, Ziggy, Mo & Aisha, Kiki. Only negatives: no generator during power outages after storms, team work lacks a bit of energy, otherwise I'd rate it 'Excellent'. Can't wait to return to this hidden beauty...

Every winter, I feel the need to escape the cold and snow in the northeast. We haven’t traveled internationally since right before the pandemic took hold of the world so I decided our first foray into international travel since Covid began should be to the warm and sunny Bahamas. Because of Covid concerns and just a general need for a break from the world, I decided against Atlantis or any other mega resort and wanted to visit somewhere a little more off the beaten path. Eletheura was the perfect spot. We picked La Bougainvillea due to its great reviews and beautiful location. We were not disappointed. Situated atop a private beach, this place was the perfect respite from the last long 2 years and provided exactly the peace and quiet we were looking for. Not only was it just as beautiful as the pictures showed, but the staff was so helpful and friendly. The food at the restaurant was delicious, the pool and beach were spectacular and it felt like we were the only ones there. My poor husband fell victim to the dreaded noseeums and the owner gave him an aloe plant as relief. He then checked up on us several times during the rest of the visit to see how he was feeling. It was so wonderful to have such a personal experience with an owner who truly cared about his guests enjoying themselves. Also, special recognition to Tenille, who went far above and beyond to ensure our experience was great. If you’re considering Eletheura, I 100% recommend this resort. Some pro tips:
-rent a vehicle, a 4WD one if you can. It was tricky getting in and out of the resort and around the island in general
-the food is expensive. This is not unique to this resort, food all over the island is expensive. Be prepared for that
-the weather wasn’t particularly cooperative for us. The resort doesn’t offer much in the way of rainy day activity, so bring devices/books/games to keep yourselves entertained should that happen. I would’ve loved a fitness center for that reason too
Overall, a great experience, lovely people and we hope to return again soon!

I live on Eleuthera, and as such have visited this property several times, and each time it gets slightly worse until this week where it hit rock bottom. Food was terrible - $26 steak wrap with gristle, overcooked steak and zero seasoning. Chicken wings that were so over cooked they were completely dry and requires mouthfuls of overpriced beverages to wash away. One staff member (who was doing a great job under the circumstances) attempting to serve around 25 guests. Hoards of grounds workers sitting under trees not working, palm fronds zip tied onto vertical wooden structures. This was once a place people flocked too and now it seems it has suffered like most establishments in this island. It is tired, soulless and no one seemed to care and this is entirely reflected in the quality of their products. The one redeeming feature is their beach, but mature provided that. Don’t waste your time or your money when there are so many other, decent places so close by.

We were there for a few days with a small group. The two of us stayed in the Wild Orchid Cottage. Lovely little building behind the rest of our group staying in the Wild Orchid Villa. Beautiful interior with a sense of space.
Beach was outstanding and quiet, food was delicious, excellent drinks... all just as we would want it.
We had a few problems with water pressure and minor things but the staff dealt with them as they could. A lovely bunch of folks who try to ensure you have a lovely stay in their quiet hideaway.
Do take proper bug spray as most of the folks in our group left with a crazy number of bites on their legs.
Snorkelling is limited off the beach but if you head 60 odd meters straight out from the massage platform you will find a nice shallow head of corals and fish.
If you have the option, flying into Governor's Harbour Airport will cut down on your road travel time.

Thiis is a boutique hotel and restaurant. Beautiful setting and very attentive waiters. May have been the best buffet meal we've had in the Bahamas. Stuffed chicken was average but everything else excelled -- Garlic butter shrimp, conch chowder, Jack Daniels ribs, jerk corn on the cob, seafood rice, red velvet cheesecake and waffle station. Brunch and one drink cost $76 per person.

My favorite part of the stay was the food. This is unusual because the Bahamas is not known for food. Devin, the chef at La Bouganvillea, is a humble soft spoken man who cooks up wonders in his seaside kitchen. The lobster tacos were amazing. Oh, and don't miss trying the best burger in the Bahamas.
The environment Tom created is an eclectic mix of Bahamian and Asian designs. This tasteful combination made me feel relaxed and embraced. I enjoyed immensely sitting out back listening to the ocean, feeling the gentle breeze all while being taken care of by a great staff.

We spent several long lingering lunches there and loved every minute. The food is terrific especially the dynamite shrimp and the sushi. We were sad to miss the wood fired pizza oven and music on Thursday night but would wholeheartedly recommend this spot. We took our while family of 6 adults and 6 children there and everyone there could not have been nicer. The place is really well run and every staff member we met including Kia, Sean, and Lucius were very gracious. In addition, they have the best massage therapist we have had in a long time. All six adults had massages in a beautiful Bali style massage space on the beach and everyone said they were the best massages!!

You can either take a ferry or fly from Nassau to the Eleuthera airport
The hotel will carry loungers down to the beach if you request it. The staff are incredibly accommodating and the chef will happily make dishes to order too so vegetarians will not be disappointed.
