We wanted a holiday that we can truly switch off, and Kahanda Kanda met and exceeded our expectations in every way. The entire resort is elegantly designed and pays tribute to the local culture. We were immediately in love with the resort as we arrived at the bar and reception area which has an old world charm with wooden furniture and boardgames whilst overlooking the lush hills.

The villa is probably the most beautiful villa we've ever stayed. Incredibly spacious yet very cozy and homely. Every piece of furniture and item is thoughtfully designed and placed. We especially love the outdoor shower, the pool overlooking the garden, the morning bird songs, visits by squirrels, monkeys (on the trees) and peacocks. The villa gave us maximum privacy and made it a home for us immediately.

We are particularly impressed by how environmentally conscious the resort it: we love the filtered water jug and glass bottled water and the ceramic soap dispenser.

The food was also delicious, with different menus for every night of the day. The resort also has its own collection of drinks, which are fantastic.

The service is nothing short of excellent. The room would be made and pool would be clean when we have our breakfast. The lights around the villa would be turned on just before sunset. At the dining room water will be filled timely and regularly, plates of finished food taken away promptly and each dish is well paced. The owner of the resort was lovely and came by our table during dinner to say hi.

Kahanda Kanda is an incredibly special and tasteful resort and one we will certainly come back to time and again in the years to come!

We spent 3 nights here after a fairly hectic tour around Sri Lanka and enjoyed every single moment of our stay.

The hotel has been beautifully designed and executed with the rooms dotted around the grounds. We stayed in the Dubu suite which is a short walk away from the main area and set in its own extensive garden surrounded by lush vegetation. The moment you see the Dubu suite you know you are in for something special. It is a large elegant Javanese bungalow that has been beautifully recreated - the design and decor are simply gorgeous. It has its own very large private pool with extensive view over the lush Sri Lankan countryside.

Of special note - the bed and the bed linen are probably the most comfortable /high quality that I've ever experienced in a hotel.

The staff are excellent throughout. Breakfast is good and dinner was excellent. On the two nights that we ate in the hotel we were offered a choice of about 3 or 4 dishes for each of 3 courses. The food was excellent and we actually enjoyed having a limited, but well balanced menu.

The owner of the property, George, took the trouble to introduce himself and really does seem to be one of those extremely rare hotel proprietors who really does care that you enjoy every aspect of your stay. He should be extremely proud of the little piece of paradise that he has crafted in this corner of Sri Lanka.

If you are thinking of booking this hotel then don't hesitate - and if you can have the Dubu suite you are on your way to paradise!

KK as it’s known locally is a fabulous bolt hole just up from the stunning beaches of southern Sri Lanka. George Cooper the owner is meticulous ( and inspired) when it comes to style and luxury. Think gorgeous individual villas, beautifully equipped and in their own private locations, most also with their own private pools. This is a place where you can totally relax and forget about the rest of the world yet still enjoy a sophisticated ,over 12s only, hotel offer. The main building is just perfect for pre dinner cocktails and a game of scrabble. The short wine list is extremely well curated ( eg they have Whispering Angel rose) and the food is wonderful, especially the Sri Lankan curries. They will cook pretty much anything you request in advance.
On top of that the main infinity pool is just stunning with a lovely view out over the tea plantation towards Koggala lake.
Even though it’s very hard to leave the estate, you can also borrow bikes and take a leisurely 45 minute cycle down to the sister property ( KK Beach) which sits right on the beach and also has a lovely grassy area with palm trees , loungers and a swimming pool. The pool man there is absolutely brilliant and nothing is too much trouble for him. He takes so much pride in his job.
If cycling doesn’t appeal, KK will provide a complimentary tuk tuk transfer both ways. And you can get to Galle Fort by tuk tuk ( or hotel car) in 30 minutes. It’s a real fun journey past the fish and fruit markets so take the tuk tuk service!
This is a very special place closely watched over by the charming owner George , who has devoted his life to making KK the most wonderful place to stay in Sri Lanka.

Kahanda Kanda was our second hotel during our 4weeks touring Sri Lanka 🇱🇰
We had the bungalow ( honeymoon Villa) sadly we were not comfortable in this room as we had hoped but the manager kindly moved us into one of the more modern pool villas which or though much smaller was much cleaner and brighter and sited us better. The Head of housekeeping Rohan took it upon himself to ensure everything was done to ensure we were happy in new villa and he certainly put all his effort into this and took onboard very quickly and professionally my comments which he actioned and made a real difference to how we felt about our visit at KK.
We really enjoyed our trips into Galle Fort and our driver( through Pan Lanka ) was amazing and drove us around everywhere. We had a very good guide who gave us a excellent experience of Galle Fort called “Demystify Mystical “ -Shanjei was his name very with doing indeed. We also had a super bike ride around the paddy fields the company was called “Idle Bikes” in Galle .
The food was ok at KK but not amazing as we had hoped as we really only wanted to eat Sri Lanken food which was very limited. We eat out in Galle Fort few times and one was a very basic reasturant but the fish was amazing “ Elita Restaurant in middle Street Galle Fort . We were also treated to a fantastic meal by our agents Holiday Architects( who’s are amazing) a dinner at Fort Printers which was very nice indeed.
The staff at KK made our experience and certainly felt they worked so hard to ensure you have a happy stay there.
Thank you to all of them and especially Rohan - you were amazing and I wish you well for the future.

We visited Kahanda Kanda as a family of 13. We had a lovely time. The rooms are beautifully decorated, the location is incredibly attractive and the food was delicious. Nothing was too much trouble. The one thing that really stood out for us though was the staff. Sri Lankans are incredibly friendly people. Nothing is too much trouble.
We stayed for three nights. We did a 26 mile guided cycle tour on one day. On the second day, we split out time between Kahanda Kanda and their sister property, KK Beach. There is a complimentary tuk-tuk service to transfer you between the two resorts. Despite requiring up to five tuk-tuks at a time, these always arrive promptly for the enjoyable 20 minute ride. Galle is also just a short journey away. If you prefer countryside to town centres, then Kahanda Kanda is certainly the place to stay. Owner managed Boutique hotels also provide that little bit of extra magic that you cannot reproduce with hotel chains. From a safety perspective, there is nothing to worry about in Sri Lanka and it is time to return whilst you can still enjoy a relaxing holiday away from the usual crowds you find in holiday destinations.

We enjoyed a wonderful 5 night stay in February staying in the Peacock Suite. We loved the his 'n' hers outside shower rooms. Everything about this place gives you confidence that you are going to have a special few days. All exceeded our expectations. The food was absolutely delicious from the buffet evenings to the A La Carte menu which rather re assuringly was small this made it very obvious that the ingredients were fresh. The wine list was also not too outrageous. We especially loved having a drink in the Living Pavilion in the evening, many of the guests played board games before dinner. The views from the restaurant were stunning. One evening we ate in Galle, the food wasn't a patch on KK. I would recommend having lunch out then eating in the evening in the hotel. The Tuk Tuk down to the KK Beach gave the best of both worlds. Do have a massage they are excellent. The incredibly charming owner George introduced himself and chatted to all the guests, however do not be fooled by his affable manner he notices everything and rectifies any problems immediately, his attention to detail is outstanding. His staff have been with him for many years and are incredibly loyal and are also very happy to help organise taxis, excursions etc. Henry behind the bar has been there from the start. Lovely little touches of cold water and watermelon brought to the pool just add that little extra something that are greatly appreciated. I hope we will return.

Kahanda Kanda is a tranquil boutique hotel set up in the hills. Everything about this is place is heavenly, from the food, to the pool overlooking the jungle, to the stunning villas. We stayed in the tamarind suite which was amazingly designed with a huge porch overlooking the jungle perfect for reading or afternoon naps.
This place is definitely for those looking to chill, as it is a bit isolated, around 15-20 minute drive to restaurants and the beach. This was not as issue for us as we were very happy to stay on the property and relax.
A particular highlight of our stay was the seafood barbecue we enjoyed on our last night under the stars.
Special thanks to George and all the staff who made our time so enjoyable.

It was a beautiful stay at the Dubu villa. Although we may have visited during the wrong season as it was raining both days we managed to enjoy our stay..
We checked in a little late and even though it was past lunch time the staff were nice enough to arrange our lunch and upon request sent the dinner to our room... The menu was limited but food was really flavourful.
Speaking of the villa it has been constructed beautifully.. consisting of the main feature that is the massive private pool and two separate bath areas with a jacuzzi & tub.

We requested the pool to be cleaned as it had fallen leaves due to rain and the staff was super fast in doing so.
We also noticed our vehicle was covered with a cover to protect from rain which we thought was a thoughtful gesture.

Overall we loved our stay and hoping to visit again..

Dear Nirru Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review of your stay with us. Yes, sadly the weather was not great - it has been exceptionally wet of late, but hopefully the tide has turned and we are now getting some sunnier times! We do tend to offer a slightly limited menu since we like to provide only fresh ingredients and with business being rather erratic these days, it is difficult to have an expansive offering. However I hope you enjoyed the food we did provide. Thank you for coming to stay, and we hope to see you again - in sunnier days! Best wishes George Cooper

Due to a scheduling error on our part, we arrived at Kahanda Kanda a day earlier than our stay was supposed to start. The staff didn't miss a beat - they welcomed us regardless and arranged for us to be upgraded to Dubu, their Balinese inspired honeymoon villa. After one night, we moved to Kadju - and this was our favourite villa! The vista of the Koggala hills from the infinity pool/bed was worth every penny in and of itself. The room was modern, beautiful decor with lots of attention to detail. The bathroom was large, spacious, clean with modern fittings. Privacy was 100% given each villa is almost a hotel in and of itself. We were on the full board package - and every meal was delicious. They really go over and beyond with flavour and texture. Butler service was attentive and the entire staff were absolutely great! Would HIGHLY recommend a stay here and we can't wait to go back!

My boyfriend and I have stayed at a lot of hotels down south however Kahanda Kanda in fact has been the best hotel out of it all. It’s very private and beautiful but also 20mins from the unawatuna beach stretch and 15 mins from ahangama. What we love about the hotel is everything. Kahanda kanda is breathtaking and secluded but also allow us to enjoy the beach, restaurants and other things down south offers. We stayed at the Kumbuk villa which has its own private pool. The villa was beautiful and very spacious, something that many rooms in hotels down south lacks. We had the most relaxing stay. I must say the food here was delicious and it caters to the luxury high standard of the overall hotel. A candle lit dinner was organized for us overlooking the stunning views of the tea estate watching the sunset. What topped this off was the delicious 3 course meal that was prepared for us. Moreover the service at the hotel was just excellent. From the waiters, staff, chef to the manager were all so friendly and helpful. It really made our stay extra special and comfortable. You really feel like home when you enter this hotel. The atmosphere this entire hotel creates from its architecture, surrounding, food to the staff really puts you at ease and guarantees that you have the perfect getaway. This is the first review I’ve ever written and I usually do at least two trips a month, so this says it all.
