The Raja4Divers resort is under Swiss management and run by an experienced, qualified and motivated team. Construction works started in October 2010, and the beautiful resort has been open to guests since June 2011. The dive resort nestles along a palm fringed, west facing beach, with spectacular sunsets right in front of the bungalows. With a maximum of 18 divers only and its unrivalled service levels, it is one of the most exclusive diving resorts in Raja Ampat.

We were in June 22 in the U30 week on Pulau Pef and had an unforgettable beautiful time. The "last paradise" keeps what the name promises. The incredibly beautiful nature below and also above the water surface is only topped by the even better people in Papua. The food, the beautiful resort with the luxurious and always clean and lovingly furnished rooms and facilities, the service at the reception (we had to change our flights which is not always easy in Indonesia), the table tennis and badminton training and of course the great diving made this trip an unforgettable experience. 2 weeks is the shortest recommended length of stay, we would have loved to stay much longer.

We spent 2 weeks on Pef with the infamous "Wobbegong" group. To wrap it up in short: Our high expectations were exceeded! Throughout the entire stay, we were indeed treated as kings and yes; we feel that we have made new friends in Indonesia. The diving is out of this world. For all of you who have not been to Raja Ampat before, you are in for a real treat and you will not be disappointed. All (!!) the staff have been super friendly, the food very tasty and you also get to "steal" from the local buffet, which is great! Bungalows are giant and the sunset views not to be topped! Keep in mind: When you're in Rome, do as the romans do. You are on a remote island and some things won't be like in your 5 star city hotel. If you keep this in mind, you will have a 5 star island holiday :-) Getting to Pef from Europe is a long trip and that is GOOD! If it were too easy to reach, its beauty would disappear quickly. So make the trip, but stay for at least 2 weeks. You will not regret it!

We have rated 4 star as a weighted average from a diving operation (5 star) friendless and caring of staff (5 star) accommodation (3-4 star) food (3-4 star) and transfer (0 star) Here are our comments: Pros: Great dive team, great guide (Nixkon) amazing out of this world dive sites; great friendly staff. Good; The bungalow, furniture OK, many plugs (today is a must) the over-the-water porch and the sunset view are amazing! Acceptable: The bathroom was not at all following the standard, only one sink, the water was very brackish. The food while plentiful was just acceptable Not good: The lack of a proper shower, there is a cube filled with water from hot and cold taps and a pan with handle to pour oneself the water. Being in a sea environment that requieres sweet water very often it does not seem to be the best choice Really bad: The overall transfer operation from the airport to the resort, too long wait at the hotel but specially the transfer boat they use is a disgrace, for a three and a half hour trip it has no toilet facilities of any case, neither has chairs, travelers have to lay down on mattress on the floor, until I got used to it reminded me of the slave ships. On the return trip the heat was unbearable at times. Overall it is a place we would return to if the shower and transfer boat issues were solved, the diving and staff were so good. But those two items make it a no go for us. One last point, we did share these comments with the resort management but they did not seem to be concerned or believe that the faults we saw were shared by most of the guests.

Thank you for your review, Carlos. We are sorry that our philosophy (traditional mandis instead of showers and a stable wooden transfer boat with mattresses to lie down and sleep during the transfer) did not meet your expectations. We wish you all the best and hope you will have a safe journey back home. Kind regards, your Raja4Divers team

My wife and me have been spending a marvellous 3 weeks holiday in the Raja 4 resort ,3 1/2 hours from Sorong, Papua New Guinea. We highly recommend this wonderful resort. I summarize : A beautiful island with a spectacular lagoon, sounds of birds,a very remarkable intact housereef, many beautiful and a number of outstanding reefs for diving or snorkeling in the vicinity. A very warm hearty welcome by the owner lady Maya and her crew. The management turned out to be very effective and reliable and of a remarkable attentiveness and kindness. Being Swiss management ,you can rely on an outstanding food ,whatever it is. We were surprised, how this is possible in this remote area. The infrastructure is just as we like it. Bungalows built with local materials, spacy ,practical ,cozy ; we felt home. Of course we have booked again ,being convinced ,that it would be difficult to surpass this wonderful place. Wati and Claus from Germany.

Diving is floating in a 5 dimensional room – a bit like being in space, but feeling the water and seeing all that beauty the underwater world reveals to us. Raja Ampat has in particular it’s own charm. The biota is incredible and diverse, the dive sites are so remote that maybe once in a while a liveaboard is near by, but otherwise you are alone to absorb the ravishing beauty. The diving at the resort is professionally managed and goes smoothly, but the real magic is the kindness and the family spirit you will experience on the island. It is that LOVE you feel throughout the day when living and experiencing the island life - that makes this place so unique, so special, so incredibly lovable. It is real, it is honest, it is humble! I wish I could have stayed longer but I certainly will come back as so many others are doing that as well. It was a real pleasure and an honour to meet you all and to experience this deep feeling.

Wow , an Amazing place and some of the best diving I have seen. Loved all the people working there including the rooms, food and the dive guides. Their boats are set up just right for the smaller groups and the dive sites are very close to the resort. The corals are still very healthy and there is an abundance of sea life enjoying this beautiful water. My first time to Raja Ampat but it will not be my last. The schedule and the rooms are so relaxing and a great place to recover in between dives.

Dear Pulau Pef team, For the second time you have impressed us with everything a guest can imagine and dream off. Your hospitality, kindness, friendliness and your professionalism are at a level that you can only hope for. It is always great to feel so welcome. The dive sites, the island, the bungalows and the food are all equally outstanding. Your motto ‘Arrive as a Guest, feel like a King, leave as a Friend' can’t be more true! Hope to see your next year! In February I Met maya (owner) when she was at the fair in Zürich. Charmed With her great personality, combined with my dream to once dive in Raja Ampat. I decided to give her resort a visit, when I already went traveling in Indonesia! It costed a bit, but in the end I can say it was al worth it!! They make you feel very welcoming and try to make everyone mingle with each other. In that way even the solo travelers, like me, did not feel alone! Also important the diving was just spectacular, even when it was low season and did not go to the bigger dive sites because of the wind and waves! Loads of corals, big marine life like sharks and manta‘s. But also, luckily for me, enough macro. A bit for every kind of diver! The diving is really safe and the staff is just amazing! Always in for a little chat! Terimakasih everyone and hope to make it back someday soon! (Tasted like more!)

Honestly, there is not a single thing I can complain about when it comes to Raja4Divers Resort. It really does feel like your own home when staying here. It is an unfortunate 4 hour long boat ride to the resort, but they kindly lay down mattresses and towels for you to sleep on should you wish, or just as a comfortable place to sit, as well as provide you with your own bottle of water and snacks to have along the way. They took us through The Passage to get to the island, which is a beautiful, serene stretch of water between islands and is perfect for a few snapshots along the way. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the staff singing and dancing on the jetty, all happy to welcome us with a fresh coconut to sip on after our long trip. We were then taken on a tour around the resort and to our bungalows, and pictures do not do this place justice! Walking in, you're greeted by a little message in pebbles wishing you a warm welcome, and the little touches of flowers arranged into patterns on the bed and around the bungalow add that extra little special something. The bungalows each have a beautiful outdoor bathroom, and the doors open up to show that the bungalow itself sits on the water with a set of steps leading to the house reef. Being so far from the mainland, we were all truly amazed at how tasty the food was and the variety that the chefs could come up with the limited resources that they have. Served in a buffet/family dinner type style, we were treated to a fusion of cuisines and the yummiest desserts. The restaurant itself sits on the water too, and everyday we were joined by a few Black Tip reef sharks that swam underneath us in the hopes of getting scraps. The dive sites are a little further away from the resorts (on average 15-25 minutes boat ride) but they were so worth the trip. The beautiful reefs that we were treated to were never short of huge amounts of fish (big and small), nudis, turtles, seahorses, rays, wobbegongs and the odd reef shark every now and then. The guides knew exactly where each creature was, so all we had to do was tell them what we wanted to see and they took us to go see it. The highlight of the trip was definitely when we had the opportunity to snorkel with Manta rays, even being very lucky enough to have an Oceanic Manta on the snorkel too! Getting up from the dive onto the boat, you're helped out of your gear and offered some snacks usually assorting to fresh pieces of coconut and fruit, before heading to the closest little island for a surface interval stop and a cappuccino before the next dive. At the end of the day, the staff all wash your gear and have it set up on the boat for you the next morning again. On the Tuesday night we were treated to a "Happy Sunset" where all the guests had dinner around the bar and got a complimentary drink, with the Pef Band entertaining us with local songs. Having to leave was of course saddening, but the night before we left they had a farewell party for us all. Thankfully we didn't have to leave the island early, so we still had time for a visit to the Pearl Farm and a snorkel at Hidden Bay. While the staff readied the boat for us to leave, we were entertained with music, singing and dancing, and then a beautiful farewell off the jetty as the boat rode past. This was, truly, the best hospitality I've received. The staff, the food, the bungalows, absolutely everything was incredible. Thank you Raja4Divers team!! :)

Much of what makes Raja4Divers a great place is nicely described by other reviewers: great reefs, wonderful rooms, beautiful house reef, great food, family atmosphere and distance from the more crowded reefs, hiking and kayaking alternatives, etc. Those are all truly great and made for a good value for a diving/ snorkeling paradise. You can learn that from the other reviews, but I wish to share with you a more unique experience at Raja4Divers. The really showed their excellence when one of our party developed significant abdominal pain that proved out to be a kidney stone but easily could have been something even more dangerous along with being quite painful. When the need for emergency transport was brought to them by me (a retired physician) they made their boat and crew available even for a night run to Sorong. They made themselves available at all hours if we needed anything. In addition they hads some useful medicines on site to help. When two of us did leave early, they worked the phones with the travel agent to rearrange all of the flights and a Jakarta overnight and made it all happen. While actual big health problems like this are unusual, the fear of them may worry some potential Raja4Divers guest. Please be aware of how caring and attentive they were to our need - I could not imagine better help than what they provided. We are beyond grateful to all of them. So go ahead, book your trip to Raja4Divers and enjoy the dives/ snorkels of a lifetime surrounded by kind hosts eager to make you happy.
