Detailed Reviews
Soaring Eagle was perfect for our trip and aptly names as bald eagles soared back and forth all day long. The location has amazing views of the mountains across Cook Inlet and a mother moose and her calf wandered around the grounds so there was nature up close. We rented the two bedroom cabin and two of the single bedroom cabins and all were more than adequate for our needs. The manager greeted us, checked on us several times during the trip, and there was fresh fruit in each cabin. The porches on each cabin was a perfect place to sit and visit.
Ninilchik Charters, the associated charter company, was also amazing. The service from each of the friendly tour guides made our planned activity trips fun and interesting. They processed and boxed up our fish in boxes that could be checked in at the airlines (much less expensive than shipping). We would all highly recommend planning your charter activities through them.
Just a side note - the cabins didn't have blackout shades, so we bought some black trash bags and hung up over the shades to help with the 24 hour sunshine.
We also bought a crockpot in Soldotna and used it for our meals - put the meal in before leaving each morning and having dinner ready when we got back. Donated it to the two bedroom cabin for others to use.
You won't be disappointed with Soaring Eagle Lodge - will stay here again whenever we get back to Alaska!

My experience with Soaring Eagle Lodge and Ninilchik Charters was noting short of exceptional. Sharon made the stay perfect and easy, Mike runs an incredible outfit, and guides Reese, Grayson, and Schuyler were second to none. Limits of fish for everybody, every day. After a great day of fishing, I got to go back to a beautiful cabin with a National-Geographic level view. Charlie at Ninilchik charters made the processing of the fish a breeze! Just being able to talk to these people during and after fishing was a treat. Nothing but great, down to earth people working hard to make sure that every aspect of each clients trip is immaculate. I am already working on setting up my next trip with this same crew. Absolutely amazing!

Booked the Ultimate Package from Souring Eagle Lodge. Six straight days of nothing but fishing. The lodge, located in Ninilchik, AK is quaint and picturesque with river and mountain views. Fishing trips were scheduled through Ninilchik Charters with Guides who knew how to fish their particular waters and prey. Lodge accommodations are a bit different with the MBR being open, half-wall and no door. The couch provided a pull-out bed for the second person. This was acceptable for two men on a fishing expedition. Souring Eagle Lodge includes a nice kitchen with all appliances and silverware, and they even include coffee and filters. Meals are NOT included with this lodge so you will need to buy groceries and pack lunches. Ninilchik is rather remote so we traveled an hour north to a town called Soldotna where better shopping and dining was available. If you don't need a five star lodge and are all about a fishing adventure, Souring Eagle includes things most other lodges do not. Rental car was included in the price for the lodge, All Fish Processing, Vacuum Sealing and Flash Freezing of fish was provided and Ninilchik Charters even shipped our fish overnight, through FedEx for us. I could not find another Lodge that included so much at such a reasonable cost. We had a blast catching big Halibut, Sockeye and Silver Salmon and Rockfish. This was my dream Alaska fishing trip of a lifetime and Souring Eagle did not disappoint. I had a blast!

This was our first time in Alaska and Soaring Eagle made planning an excellent vacation and Anniversary for us ! Our package was packed plentiful with things to do, included the rental car and a quaint cozy cottage with beautiful views !!
The kitchen had the necessities, you just need to supply food. The shower stall was a bit high for shorter people however, it was doable and the cottage was comfortable. They even supply a gas grill out on the porch to cook your catch!
Due to weather, we were a bit disappointed that our first Halibut fishing trip was cancelled but after contacting Courtney, she worked quickly and booked us Salmon fishing the same day!! Thank you <3
They are very promt and responsive and pays attention to details. Linda was the only person on site and was great and always available. The cabins are located easily accessible from the Kenai River all the way to Homer ! The next town, Soldotna is where you shop and dine mainly.
The fish processing was very easy and a big shout out to John at Ninilchik Charters! We brought the perfectly packed boxes to the airport and they arrived still frozen at home !
Another shout out to Capt. Randy at Talon Air Service and their crew for the greatest adventure of the volcanoes, fishing and seeing the wild !!
Loved our time there and can't wait to return. <3 <3

Our family had an amazing vacation in the best location possible for miles around Soldotna and Ninilchik Alaska area. Incredible ocean views with mountains in the vista from each and every cabin, and all cabins are modern and extremely comfortable with a gas fireplace, full kitchen with all the dishes, etc. and everything else you will need. Just bring your groceries. The cabins are very private and placed far apart in a beautiful setting. We set up family excursions through Soaring Eagle Lodge reservation desk for accommodations and their Ninilchik Charter outings and they handled absolutely everything, which included fishing for king salmon both on the Kasilof River and the Cook Inlet where we all limited out on halibut, and caught some kings and a few cod as well. The guides Soaring Eagle’s Ninilchik Charters have on staff are top notch and bend over backwards to find that elusive fish whether on the drift boats on the Kasilof River (Nick and Steve), ocean fishing the Cook Inlet for kings, halibut, cod, etc with our guide Brandon, or flying over to Katmai National Park on the Kenai Peninsula to watch 800 lb brown (grizzly) bears growl at each other. Just flying over the fjords and ocean was a thrill in itself. Unbelievably beautiful and rugged country with eagles and moose around every corner! A special thank you to Sharon who greeted us the moment we arrived and did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable. And thank you Nick for taking on my sister and I and making our 2 days of fishing on the Kasilof River so fun! We highly recommend the Soaring Eagle Lodge for an amazing and fun filled vacation. Miss Charlie even cleans, cuts, wraps, freezes and then boxes your fish and has everything ready for pickup just before you head home. Thank you all for such a memorable experience! Hopefully we will be back and we will definitely be staying with you!!

My husband and I stayed at the Soaring Eagle Lodge last week of August - beginning of Septembre, 7 nights total. Cabin we stayed in was OK, cozy and comfy enough with good size kitchen and nice terrase with BBQ. The first 3 days of our stay the weather was beautiful and we could enjoy breathtaking view of the ocean, ice covered volcanoes across the Cook inlet and incredible sunsets. All activities were organized and planed in advance. We were lucky enough with the weather to keep up with the schedule even though our first halibut fishing trip was little bit to rough. But, that is also part of our Alaskan experience and we appreciate it. I strongly suggest fly out fishing trip to Crescent lake if you want to see bears upclose and have a real Alaskan fishing experience with the glaciers reflecting in the water and bears fishing not far from you. We loved it!
Unfortunately there are several drawbacks to the whole experience that make me give only 2 stars. First, the cabins are to far from where you go fishing and especially if you need to be there at 5AM, so you have to get up really early and drive in complete darkness (and after previous day of activities you just want to stay in bed little longer). The salmon fishing was on Kasilof and Kenai rivers, fly out fishing from Soldotna and our 2 halibut fishing charters from Ninilchik.
Second, they do not weight or measure your fish, so you do not know what size fish you caught. And if you ask them, as I did, they just give you vague approximation in inches. It just happend that by the end of our trip with 6 halibut and 8 silvers cougt we ended up with 2 boxes, one 49 and the other 51 lb of frozen fish (including boxes and all the plastic). Coincidence? I just know that at the end of our second salmon fishing day we had a chance to weight our salmon filets - it was little over 20lb.
But what spoiled the most our experience was halibut fishing charter. I really felt bad seeing the captain kill 2 dogfish (sharks), also helping one passenger reel in a female sting ray to fast so that it could not survive. On our second day it happened that my husband and I had our first fish before anybody else, around noon, and the captain did not allow us to fish anymore before all 4 other passengers had their quota, around 5 PM. He gave our fishing rods to others, and that is against the rules. Should be one person, one rod. Thus we spent day watching others fishing and having fun and when he finally offered us to fish at 5PM we declined because our day was already ruined. Probably somebody needs to explain him that we paid primarily for fishing and the adventure, fish come in second.
Overall, Alaska is really great place to go and we are already planing our next trip, but we will do differently this time.

Hello Mrs. Kincic, Thank you for all the complements in your review, and I am sorry that your last couple trips had such a negative effect on your experience here. I hope your second trip to Alaska goes smoothly! Notes: 1. The dogfish are a retainable species of shark, but we usually let them go; However, if a client wishes to retain them, we do let them. They are very abundant here. 2. What you are referring to as a Sting Ray is actually called a Skate, and they are a bottom feeder like the Halibut. We catch them every once in a while, and until the reach the surface, it is hard to know that it is not a large Halibut you are bringing in. Landing a fish quickly is one of the better ways to prevent overexerting the fish and increases its chance of survival after release. Thank you for choosing Soaring Eagle Lodge!

Courtney did a phenomenal job setting up our itinerary and excursions. Linda the on-site host went above and beyond to make our stay remarkable. We added the Denali package via the Alaska Railway and it didn’t disappoint. Did Kensington Fjords Tour out of Seward and got some amazing pictures. Halibut fishing out of Homer was a blast and we limited out. We also did a float trip on the Kensington River where we limited our on Silver Salmon. Our last excursion was a fly in to a back lake and river adventure, where we once again limited out on Silver Salmon. We also got to fly over Redoubt Glacier on the way back. The Soaring Eagle Lodge used Tanners in Nilnilchik made sure our fish were prepped for our flight home in a freezer box. Couldn’t be more pleased!

Soaring Eagle was one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. The bungalow we stayed in had all the amenities. It was a vacation of a lifetime and how wonderful to return from our adventures each day and have that beautiful view in those comfortable rooms if I ever go back to the Kenai peninsula I won’t stay anywhere else.
Beautifully manicured property our room and all rooms have a beautiful view you’d have to experience to believe clean comfortable well-kept rooms kitchenette dining table private bath and sitting room. Just sitting on the white comfortable deck looking at the volcanoes across the inlet was a memory I’ll never forget if you get a chance to experience soaring eagle don’t pass it up

Courtney and Linda were exceptionally helpful. Due to rain cancelling our bear trip Courtney worked quickly and perfectly to adjust our activities as we asked. Worked out PERFECT! Very prompt & responsive to our needs. The itinerary was on printed paper upon arrival and left us to enjoy the week without any stress. The views are exceptional from the property with Eagles sitting or flying right by. Great central location to our activities in Homer and Kasilof and/or Kenai River fishing. They also made fish processing a breeze.

This was our vacation of a lifetime to Alaska. We had always dreamed of going and it was finally coming true. It started off paying extra right as we got off the plane (which we had previously discussed w/Courtney) needing a larger vehicle as there was four of us w/gear etc. That was an extra 500 already. Then we get to the lodge and meet Linda. She was great. However a lot of things we asked for weren't on our itinerary. Courtney had also told one in our party a week prior a about King Salmon and a lot of them. This was untrue. We ended up paying for an extra fishing trip x's 3 to get the fishing we wanted. This is so ridiculous and we ended up spending an extra 2,000. Courtney completely ruined our dream of a lifetime, she did nothing to try to fix it, but instead placed the blame on us. They have horrible customer service and don't actually care. They just want to take your money! I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. We couldn't get in contact with anyone. They won't do anything to make it better or make sure you enjoy your trip. They just continue to take your money and it's your problem. They don't explain the trip or what is ACTUALLY needed on the different activities. We had planned on taking out entire business trips through them for years to come and bring a ton of business to them. Now it quite the opposite, I wouldn't recommend wasting your time or money with this place. It was hands down the worst vacation of our lives. It was nothing, but stress and heartache.

Hi Scott. Thank you so much for the review. We are sorry to hear about your unpleasant experience. Unfortunately, our contract with AVIS only allows for a standard SUV, which we happily reserved you in. They do not let us book anything larger than that, so we are sorry that we couldn't accommodate your request for a larger than standard SUV. We appreciate your business and thank you again for your detailed review of your experience.
