NicaWaves was recommended to me by a friend and I wasn’t disappointed. The property itself is really nice, the pool and bar areas particularly stand out. I was also very pleased with my room. I went for one of the all inclusive surf packages and was provided with a guide, who was really helpful (although much more of a guide than an instructor). The food was tasty and all of the staff were nice. One point to note is that it is slightly further from the beach, so you will need to walk 15-20 mins or get a lift there. Overall, would highly recommend.

My first trip to Nicawaves Nov 11-18, 2019. I traveled many places to surf and this trip was one of the best I have had. I went with the surf package, a super value, including airport pickup (even if you get there at 1:30am), boat trips, as many surf sessions within driving distance to resort as you want... 2 or 3 per day. The thing I liked most was, it’s a small resort, very nice and relaxing, great staff that will know you by your name, oh yes and the surf is very good, very manageable crowds. Go see Mike an his team at Nicawaves, you won’t regret it, I plan to get back down this spring!!!

My girlfriend and I spent just over a week during Thanksgiving break at NicaWaves. We stayed in one of their "matrimonial" rooms just a few steps away from the pool. My girlfriend had never traveled to Central America so I was somewhat concerned she'd have a difficult time acclimating to the lack of amenities a surf camp might not provide. Right away we knew we were in good hands. We were greeted by friendly staff who were well versed in all of the details of the surrounding area. We easily planned our whole week's worth of adventures through staff and filled in the rest of our schedule by relaxing by the pool or eating\drinking at the bar\restaurant. I'm an intermediate surfer but my girlfriend had never been on a board. I've got to say, being that close to "Beginner's Bay" was the selfish highlight of our trip. Each day we'd check the tides or talk to the friendly folks there and find the best times to go and we'd walk down. The last two days we wanted to travel a bit and we rented an ATV that could fit both of us. The gentleman who handled the ATVs for us gave us rope to tie down the big foam board rentals and we immediately had a brand new adventure. All in all, we scheduled these events through the NicaWaves front desk: The NicaWaves staff picked us up and dropped us off at the airport so we didn't have to traverse Managua by ourselves. We did a two hour sunset horseback ride where a native Nicaraguan showed up with his beautiful horses right to NicaWaves. We rented surfboards almost every day, where we started with big foam longboards and then dropped down to smaller boards when my girlfriend became more comfortable. We rented ATV's (Quads) for two days right from NicaWaves. NicaWaves did an amazing Thanksgiving Dinner spread complete with all of the traditional fixings just like at home, which was surprising considering we were loving the fresh seafood specials served every evening. We did a beautiful boat tour down south on NicaWaves private boat to a beach spa. We then went out on the NicaWaves private boat early in the morning one day and hooked up on some big mackerel, jack, and tuna. We were given a driver in one of the NicaWaves trucks to the breathtaking Mombacho volcano where we hiked a one our trial and saw a sloth and had a great meal in downtown Granada. Finally, NicaWaves made a call to a nice restaurant a few km south for us so we could take our ATV down there knowing we'd have a fun dinner. We're already talking about going back. There are more volcanos to hike, my girlfriend is hooked now and wants to surf more, and we're excited to explore and learn more about the west side of Nicaragua. As I said in the beginning, this definitely wasn't your typical trip to a surf camp but wow was NicaWaves accommodating. Hope this review helps! Cheers.

We checked into our hotel around 9pm and took our bags to our room. We went to the bar for some drinks. It was about 10pm now. The bar was about to close and we went back to bed for the night. My husband decided to check the mattress ( he is licensed in USA to identify pests) and to our surprise there was a bed bug infestation! We frantically were trying to get a hold of a manager or someone to help us. We called the number they had given us, emailed them twice, and even talked to the security guard on campus who just stared at us when we asked can you get a hold of someone??? Now it is 2am and it has been hours of calling, driving and looking for a hotel that could accommodate us. We also have to find a place that can wash all of our clothes in hot water (in order to stop the infestation)... only place we found was Rancho Santana one of the most expensive hotels in Nica. When we came back the next morning they acted like it was NO big deal. The owner mike not only did not want to give us our money back but would not answer any of our phone calls and told the female manager that he will not talk to us... Thank God they finally decided to after a couple of hours of going back and forth about it! What an awful experience!!! I will NEVER recommend Nica Waves to anyone. We came for a vacation and they made the situation so much worse and stressful than it had to be.

We (2 couples) had the worst experience and was forced to leave in the middle of the night. After arriving at Nica Waves at about 9pm we unloaded our bags in our room. 9:45pm Went to the bar for a few drinks after our 4 hour drive from the airport. Bar closed at 10pm. Went back to the room and decided to check all our beds before going to sleep. Come to find out all our beds had a bed bug infestation that did not permit us to sleep in the rooms they provided. Also all Our clothes are now contaminated. 10:30pm. No one was at the resort to help us nor did anyone answer the phone numbers or emails provided. We were forced to leave and find another accommodation somewhere else. It wasn’t till 2am till we finally found a place to accommodate us. All our clothes were contaminated so we needed a place to wash all our clothes with hot water (Nica Waves showers were cold). The only other accommodation that had availabilities was Rancho Santana... one of the most expensive resorts in Nicaragua. The next day we went back to Nica Waves to finally talk to someone. They said we should talk to Mike the owner and explain what happened. After 2 hours of trying to get a hold of him Mike refused to talk to us. I called him About 6 times. We kept having to have his employee message him through an app. Their boat driver was the most help and actually got ahold of him and told us he doesn’t want to deal with us. I explained to the boat driver that I didn’t want to cause a scene and freak out all the other guests but we need to get this taken care of. Mike barely gave us our money back... thank God.. Our credit cards have a 5% charge and he wasn’t even going to give that back. We have to argue with the manager to give it back. I thought the least he could do was help us with our expensive night stay.. but his employees said no. I still have not been able to talk to mike directly not has he tried to reach out. Back in the United States I am licensed in pest control to identify these types of bugs. ALWAYS CHECK YOUR MATTRESSES!! The employees at Nica Waves didn’t even know what bed bugs are.. they can infest your clothes and leave bug bites all over your body. They’ll even come back with you to your home and infest your mattress, clothes, walls, and carpet. It’s not cheap to get rid of them either once they come back with you.. Some cases even require your entire house to be fumigated. A simple YouTube video and a flash light can help you identify them. I will never recommend Nica waves due to our awful experience and customer service. He ruined our first two days in Nicaragua. Mike obviously doesn’t care about his business. I hope this review reaches everyone before they plan on there.
