Beautiful property. I remember visiting this hotel as a little girl. Stayed 1 night after a caribbean cruise. We disembarked the ship at 8am and showed up at the hotel around 8:30am. The hotel let us use their locker room facilities to stow our belongings and take showers if we wanted since our room wasn't near ready and check in was at 4pm. The hotel reception told us that they would text me when our room was ready. We decided to splurge for a cabana for the day to stay out of the hot PR sun. $100 to rent with a $385 spend. Worth it. With the prices at this hotel, we had no problem spending close to the minimum spend. At 3pm, I received a text our room was ready. We hung out a little longer and went to our beautiful Villa room with a balcony. Very spacious, clean and beautiful. We didn't know where to go to dinner and the concierge had left by 5:30pm so I asked Frances at reception for her recommendation for a seafood restaurant. I wanted local whole fresh fish. She went above and beyond by calling a nearby restaurant in Isla Verde called Atlantica that said they had availability. She even walked us out to the front of the hotel to make sure we were able to secure a taxi with the porter. The restaurant was wonderful and the fish was so fresh and service amazing. We made friends with fellow diners who shared some of their gigantic caribbean lobster and some wine. Yum! We will definitely go back to the Fairmont El San Juan our next trip to PR!!!…

I’m an Accor loyalty member and have stayed in many Fairmont properties, but I have never been treated so royally as at this Fairmont resort in San Juan. The check in desk even called out the manager on duty to personally welcome us and the hotel later gave us a special gift when they found out we were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary. We were there, last week of Feb to March 2. Every staff member we interacted with (front desk, valet, housekeeping, restaurant, pool/beach staff) was gracious, friendly, and helpful. (by my experience, that is not always the example at resort properties in other hotel chains). For example, one evening, I put in a request for some extra coffee pods in our room (thinking that housekeeping would refresh the supply the next day), but a few minutes later someone delivered them to our room! The bartenders at the Chandelier (lobby) bar were REAL bartenders who knew their liquors and how to make sophisticated cocktails at the level of some (expensive high-class) cocktail bars in other cities; in other words, that bar doesn't make the usual watered-down touristy drinks you might expect at a beach resort. The beach staff are very hardworking, guiding guests to beach chairs, moving chairs and umbrellas if needed. (they frequently have to actually dig holes to insert your umbrella, so take some tip money because they deserve it). Some comments (not criticisms) about features of the Oceanview King room (in the Grand Tower) that may be helpful: -- The room is exactly as pictured on the website. -- The large window (with a beautiful view) does not open. -- The bathroom is small and can really only be used by one person at a time. -- Nowhere in the room to hang your swimsuits to dry. -- No minibar – it’s a real minifridge -- See my photos for a map of the property and current hours/info about resort facilities and dining options. -- An alternative to Cana’s buffet breakfast is the El Bistro coffee bar/heat-up/grab-and-go in the lobby and also a Starbucks in the shops area. -- About taxi service to/from the airport: Taxi service to/from the airport is a flat rate based on area (OSJ, Isla Verde, or Condado, plus small fee for luggage). Very reasonable and reliable. Airport taxis are in a queue (no waiting) and this hotel can get a taxi from around the corner within a minute or two. Do not use an Uber to/from the airport– as the Uber that shows up (especially upon hotel departure) may not have enough baggage space. Two feedback/critiques for the hotel management: -- I suggest installing a retractable extendable clothesline in the shower (like in Accor’s Adagio ApartHotels) -- Post the resort’s map (the one you hand out) on your website – that would be SO helpful for people trying to figure where to book within the resort. Don't know when I'll be back to San Juan, but I'll definitely stay here. …

I really liked this hotel and thought the service was wonderful. The only part I was surprised to see was the amount of young people on spring break. I hope the resort can afford to put a limit on that in the future. They have so many great amenities for adults and families I think it would be better to keep that clientele. Also don’t let the fact that many of the restaurants are within the hotel. They are all honestly very good.

Fairmont El San Juan was beautiful and the perfect place for our family of nine. We had adjourning rooms, which were exceptionally cleaned each day. The staff at the hotel were friendly and hospitable. We had exceptional breakfast service at the Cana each morning. We requested to meet the morning manager, Alexander, to give her rave reviews about our waiter, Orly, and the beautiful display of scrumptious breakfast choices on the buffet. Orly treated us like a family member when we told him we were celebrating our 70th birthdays. He even wished us Happy Birthday in Spanish! We requested Orly as our waiter each morning because he was so impressive. He was kind and attentive to our three small grandchildren, Orly epitomized the true meaning of customer service and we would give him a rate of 110 on a scale of 0-100. …

Just arrived back home from PR. We had an amazing time! Met fantastic people and staff. When we arrived after a long day of traveling, Yosue Cordero, the bartender greeted us with a great smile and a drink. In short… they charge 5star hotel prices but you get 2 star quality. The food is super expensive and not Fairmont quality. The service is horrible, but that’s true for the entire island. I have been to many countries in Latin American and know the culture and San Juan feels like it’s gotten too much influence of the New York culture. Not worth it! Go to Costa Rica or Mexico instead to get the real Latin American experience

We came to Puerto Rico for some much needed rest and relaxation. Staying at the El San Juan Hotel was a great experience. We were treated very well by every staff member we came in contact with. Frances at checkin was especially helpful and made the process very smooth. The food and drinks were amazing and the beach was exactly what we needed. We would come back tomorrow if we could. Can’t wait to come back!

We stayed here for 4 days and had issues with our room. We were promptly moved to a different room that suited us. Arnaldo and Francis went above and beyond to be sure we enjoyed our room and our stay! Omar (concierge) was also very helpful with recommendations and information about the island. We avoided the pricey restaurants and noisy pool areas and spent time on the beach and walked/ubered to local restaurants. We enjoyed our stay because of Arnaldo and Francis!
