Skanes Serail Hotel has earned commendations for its cleanliness and engaging atmosphere, with nightly entertainment like karaoke and mini discos being a highlight. However, the rooms have been criticized for being outdated and occasionally uncomfortable. While the secluded location is appreciated by some guests for its tranquility, others have noted a decline in its peaceful charm. The service receives mixed reviews, with the staff's friendliness often overshadowed by communication issues and maintenance lapses. Additionally, the value proposition of the hotel is questioned by many guests who have encountered unexpected costs and underwhelming amenities.

This holiday was booked for my Birthday. We arrived the night before. Arrangements were unable to be made as the number provided was not answered a month prior to arriving. The hotel is a beautiful building that needs tender love and care. When we arrived it was just after a storm so the wind noises in the room third floor facing the sea was horrific. The coast at the sea was covered in debris/litter and we were unable to get in to the sea.
We had the Spa package for £100 for three days of massage all sorted by the lovely rep Gigi ( Hanan, the masseuse has wonder hands ).
The food was not the greatest very bland in taste.
The restaurant staff were great especially Mohamed who made sure we had a specially decorated spot every shift he was in.
The entertainment team ( Panda and Femi) tried their hardest to entertain us with games and karaoke/music .
We were not told that the hotel was doing maintenance during down season. The hotel is listed as an Aquapark but the main pool and the slide pool was drained and being maintained. The slides are closed in down season that also includes the shanties and the beach huts which were also not available. Only the hotel bar was open for entertainment.
Do not expect to be able to just take a walk. The hotel is in the middle of the sea and the salt lakes on a very long stripe of road. Nearest cash point is the airport 20-30 minutes walk from the hotel. You can change money at the hotel at a slightly lower rate but cannot withdraw money.
You can take a cab either way and the price is 50 Dinar there and back (some cab driver will haggle for price be stern).
My Husband and I met some great people off the beaten track and found our fun in Quad Biking for three days.
I would like to Thank Mr Chakib the Cheif Exec of the hotel for being approachable during our stay.

Lovely hotel and friendly staff, if you follow a few simple rules you’ll have a great family holiday.

Rule 1 - Tip! Find a waiter day one, slip him 10
Dinar (£2.50), and you’ll have a freshly laid table waiting for you every time. We used the older Mohammed at breakfast and the younger Mo in the evenings.

Rule 2 - take Sterling with you and change at the airport, they don’t take cards at the Exchange so only cash will do. Tunisian Dinar can’t be bought outside the country so have £ with you to change.

Rule 3 - be careful what you eat! Everything looks delicious but anything washed with the local water may cause problems. I left the all inclusive holiday 3lb lighter! Stick to the cooked food

Hotel is really good with a hard working entertainment team. Beach is fantastic and very safe for children. Be friendly with everyone and they’ll be very friendly back. Tunisia is a different country and culture to what you may be used to but common sense will see you right.

Great holiday, we’ll definitely go again in a few years.

The staff at the hotel are all very lovely and accommodating. The entertainment team work very hard and are very friendly. However the hotel needs a lot of improvement, the rooms look nothing like the pictures they are not very welcoming and the beds make me wake up feeling like I’ve been in a car crash.
The food is very samey everyday with not much for the kids.
The facilities are very good, the pool area is great and the water park is lots of fun - has lots of potential.
When we arrived I had to use a flashlight to find my room as all the corridors are pitch black and not very inviting. Coming alone with a small child this was not a great first impression.
Other groups seemed to take priority. We asked for music round the pool to which they said that another group requested no music cos the pool is for relaxing - it’s a family hotel. Also there was suppose to be a pool foam party disco for the kids, again the other group turned this down and so we were denied that.
Could be more variety of evening entertainment, but they do a good job with what they’ve got!
Overall would say that this hotel was more of a 3 star.

Minimalist welcome, arrived at 9am with a baby after a long night we were unfortunately told no room before 2pm
Level catering first the room is dirty , dirty dishes , after 6 cups you find one almost clean, no napkin on the tables each time you have to ask the waiter,
Warm staff but ill-considered by the boss' wife who despises everyone, she is there walking no smiling no hello just giving orders and treating the staff like stooges, she forgot that thanks to them their hotels work,
At 7am at the opening of the restaurant for breakfast the sugar cart is empty (it’s the one the day before said a waiter to his colleague the commissary is closed it’s not my fault)
Deckchairs reserved for 6am, shameful normally it is the internal rules that apply that we must not book deckchairs
Above all do not forget to prepare money to leave a deposit of 20dt per towel as the towel itself does not even cost 5dt at the Point of Sale, in addition the safe is free announced on arrival except it is necessary to leave a deposit of 20dt also
For me and my family it was a bad experience for a Pension like Skanes serail which has changed a lot since Dad’s time when he was still there (peace to his soul)

Slides not open after been told the 1st April
Told 2nd
Then told 10am then 1pm then 3 then 5pm.
Then told should be open 1 hour a day
Then blamed the weather despite all other hotels locally fully open.
Then told no lifeguard even though he was walking around days prior

Animation good to entertain the kids.
Not much adult entertainment

Child pool wasn’t open for first week and was left unsafe with grids around the edge

Rooms are ok and basic
Can be loud at nighttime depending on where in the hotel.

Beach was dirty and full of seaweed and not really usable. Walk down to beach with other hotels and all were ok and cleaned. They were cleaning whilst there but nothing like the pictures

It was out of season and didn’t expect much to be open which was fair enough

Wouldn’t recommend to book as a family especially this time of the year.

Some food was nice but can be repetitive,
Drinks basic and for first week didn’t even have diet drinks, they did after complaint eventually get some.

I am unhappy they promise children things and then do not folllow through

Wouldn’t come back sorry

The rooms are clean. Cleaners work hard wouldn’t say it is a 4 star holiday would rate it at a 3

We Stayed at the hotel from 14th of June , 2 adults 1 child 4years and a baby 9 months.
First night (34 degres) the Aircon wasn't working and when I asked at the reception they said to me that they will turn it on from the 15th its a national rule lol !! With the help of Sofien in the reception who was helpful and professional we Managed to change room due to the noise coming from the Disco.
The shop in the hotel is over priced , when I challenged the guy in charge (attached pic) he didn't like it and from then he was rude to us the rest of our stay. Its a shame
Restaurant : lack of hygiene, please make sure ur table is wiped properly before sitting, the cutlery always greasy, only 2 high chairs available and one of them is broken.
Entertainment team are young and the boys they seemed interested only in girls but they were there every day trying there best with minimum facilities.
Night entertainment indoor !!!
Around the pool or the beach you will be approached by sellers (henna tattoo, SPA, jewellery and excursion...) these are staff employed by the hotel but a polite No will keep u in peace.
Water Park is OK
Overall the hotel needs updating and management need to be more visible and hear out customers complaints.

Overall, the hotel is ideal for a cheap and cheerful stay. However after holidaying in various countries and hotels this hotel has to be the least equipped. No mini fridge, beds are hard, the bathrooms could do with updating ASAP, and the curtains are quite old making the rooms look dark and dingy. The beach was a mess when we arrived, however this was cleaned up and was quite nice to relax on towards the end of our stay, however strangers will approach you hounding you to buy ciggies head scarves and bracelets and do not take no for a answer, security at the beach don't do anything to stop them once you have said no, so makes going down to the beach a waste of time as there isn't just 1 there is upto 6 different men. Entertainment show wise could do with being varied more, panda simba Prince and zizou where fantastic though so so friendly and I will miss them most of all. They don't cater to English food wise in the restaurant, I struggled for 8 days to find something to eat and lived on spaghetti mostly. The chicken wings were not cooked one day they was raw inside. Overall I'd give the hotel 2 stars. The aqua park was only open 2 hours a day, and the bar was quiet not even any music on whilst you sat and had a drink. With some tweaks this hotel could be so much more. Would I go back? Not at this moment in time, not enough to do there as a family. But we had a laugh and made the most of it.

So I know that the angriest people will say "the French are never happy, they criticize all the time, etc..." but there is something there..
First of all, the first night was the most horrible of all... Room 358 which overlooks a nightclub with loud music until 4 a.m.... obliged to report it to the reception who can't do anything (necessarily). We went back in the morning and thank you anyway they reassigned us to a new room.
Still on the bedroom side, they are very dilapidated... no real shower, a bathtub that is miserable with blackened joints... the last 2 days we had no more water (great for hygiene...) .
To finish with the room, the mattresses are not super clean, traces of I don't know what in short...
On the catering side, every day they offer the same thing and they try to make and redo things from leftovers from the day before. We are constantly forced to ask for glasses or bottles of water because they do not have the reflex to at least give us glasses (when they are clean). Not to mention the cockroaches in the dining room...
The swimming pools and slides close extremely early (6 p.m. for the swimming pool and 5 p.m. for the slides)
Despite all this, the aquatic area is good as is the access to the beach.
In summary, the hotel is very very very dilapidated and clearly does not deserve its 4 stars.

The hotel has a very good location, right on the beach and not far from the city of Monastir. The rooms are clean and very large and spacious as family rooms, with a great view directly out onto the sea. The buffet-style food was plentiful and everything (fish, meat, fresh fruit and vegetables) was available in sufficient quantities and cleanly. The theme evenings with outdoor grills and Tunisian specialties were also great. The pool area and the beach were clean and well supervised. The best thing for the children was the aqua park with various slides, which was very well looked after and supervised. The pool areas were cleaned punctually and thoroughly every evening, so that the pool water was always clean! The beach was clean and there were umbrellas and loungers. There were also various activities, such as paragliding or jet skiing, at good prices.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The child-friendliness is also worth mentioning here, the animation team ran various children's activities every day and a mini disco in the evening. For the adults there were evening show programs with a fakir show or a pool party with foam cannons.
It was a very nice holiday and we will definitely come back next year.

Inn SALE. Little varied food, often not cooked and served at the next meal. Accepted customers are disrespectful of the facilities. Customers (mostly local) eat as cleanly as farm pigs and line the floor, table and chairs with crushed and wasted food to the point of sickening staff. Let's highlight a new installation, the pizza bar or pizza delighted the whole family. The terrace of the restaurant is dirty, as little cleaned during the day. Between each service, no maintenance and people leave waste everywhere.
All inclusive for what they want. Bars open at 10:00, but nothing ready before 10:30 and not fresh either. Few cold drinks during the day. 2 cocktails available. Drinks are served in cardboard cups originally intended for espressos. The 2 bars have a person in charge of collecting the few recyclable plastic cups in insufficient quantity for the hotel.
The rooms are not cleaned properly. The bathroom lacked a toilet brush. We had to ask for paper every day. The broken bathtub rasfitollated with mastic.
Pay for a more expensive room with sea views, but a palm tree totally obstructs the view. Rooms that do not have sea views have a view of the nearby landfill. The beach is filled with seaweed and filth. Do not walk barefoot, at the risk of cutting yourself with capsules or broken glass.
The pool is clean, but the contour is aging and dirty. Few umbrellas to protect from the sun. A simple swipe every morning serves as maintenance for the day.
We appreciated the professionalism of the staff in the room, smiling and helpful. Thanks again to them. We also appreciated the animation team who are close to the guests and smiling at all times.
