The Darien has always been on our bucket list, now we have a big CHECK. The limit of 8 people per guide made for an intimate and congenial experience. The day were long, usually rising before 5 and on the road before sunrise at 6....More
This was my third trip to Panama with the Canopy Family and it was, as usual, terrific.
We went to the eastern Panamanian Province of Darien which has the reputation of being quite a rugged experience for birders. (Birding is why we visited). As always...More

Hello from Panama and thank you for your question! Apart from the standard gear, we recommend you bring a reusable water bottle to refill throughout your tour. We have plenty of drinking water available at the Canopy Camp. A headlamp for around camp after dark (and extra batteries) - having a "hands-free" option is very helpful. Sun protection (sunscreen and a wide-brimmed hat) is very important, and February is the dry season in Panama so there is not much rain to be expected, but a compact waterproof jacket or poncho is never a bad idea. While closed shoes or hiking boots are required for in the field, a light pair of sandals for around camp are recommended. See you in February!
