The NAU Sao Rafael Suites garners praise for its cleanliness and prime location close to beaches and the town center, with many travelers finding the setting ideal for their stay. However, opinions on the hotel's services and amenities are mixed; some guests compliment the staff's friendliness and the spacious rooms, while others have faced issues with housekeeping and inadequate in-room conveniences.
The atmosphere is noted for its peacefulness, yet the entertainment and room decor may not meet everyone's expectations. Moreover, concerns about value for money and unexpected charges have been highlighted by several reviewers.

We arrived and were greeted warmly. The check in was smooth professional and quick. During the check in we were explained all the facilities and given a schedule of times for meals, spa and WiFi details. Rodrigo took our case and gave us a little tour of the hotel, this was really useful. Our room was absolutely beautiful, overlooking the pool and sea (106) with two bathrooms
, two balconies and a large lounge too we really did feel in the lap of luxury. We headed for lunch and we’re blown away by the food. A chef outside had a bbq station cooking fresh whole sea bass and also pork kebabs. Every lunch time the chef outside cooked amazing fish and meat. The buffet inside was vast and the choice was huge, I didn’t wear the same thing once. The waiters in the restaurant were so friendly and gave a high level or service. A shout out to Alex who also worked on the bar was just brilliant, a credit to the hotel. The outdoor pool was warm and the sun beds clean and new. A pool guy circled the pools all day wiping down surfaces with disinfectant spray, it was great to see. The indoor Spa was lovely too. The heated indoor pool was really tranquil. Dinner in the restaurant and also breakfast were a very high standard indeed, I travel a lot and honestly they have got the whole process of dining just right. With a free shuttle to the beach or town it was lovely to see the local area, the local beach is a lovely 10 minute walk away too and the cliffs are lovely to see. We’d really like to thank all the staff as every single staff member we came into contact with was friendly and caring. Well done everyone, we can’t wait to return.

This is no longer a 5 star hotel. It may have been once.
Although the staff are extremely helpful when asked, no exchange of smiles or pleasantries were evident and therefore not the service you would expect from 5 star.
There are no tea or coffee facilities in the room, only bottled water replaced daily.
Cleaning is carried out daily. Plenty of fresh towels. Rooms as described by previous rooms.
Food. It is a Buffet Service (not the A La Carte Restaurant which you can only book once under all inclusive arrangements). Otherwise you have to pay.
Plenty of different kinds of salads, more than needed really. Hot food is usually lukewarm, including the fries. The hot food leaves a lot to be desired at dinner time. Seems to be fine “on the cheap”.
Restaurant staff were friendly if you were to them. Occasional smiles.
A bit disappointing when spending a huge amount of money for extras.
Bathroom grouting in the master bedroom needed upgrading. Already discoloured.
It seems this resort needs an inspection by the owners if they wish to sell it as 5 star. We have been to better 4 star establishments.

Firstly we stayed here for 10 nights in a family room over looking the pool (we paid to upgrade) but was well worth the views!!! The rooms were spotless clean, maids came in everyday and changed towels etc. The hotel is located about a 15 minute walk from the marina. It was perfect as we had the options of beach (5 minutes away) or Old Town Albuferia (15 minutes daily shuttle)! You had a bit of it all. The hotel is beautiful and spotlessly clean. We were up one morning at 7 and the cleaners were washing floors and windows in preparation for the day. The staff were all fine except for one guy who was pretty grumpy! He wore a orange t-shirt so think he was just a handyman doing a bit of everything. He had zero manners and could barely crack a smile! My daughter asked if he would change a ten euro to which he replied NO! Then the receptionist came out snd said she could
Do it no bother!! The staff work so hard they actually haven’t time to speak, they are on the go in the restaurant constantly. I did read on here that you waited forever for drinks but we got served straight away and after a couple of days they just said to help ourselves which we did!! The breakfast and lunch were amazing!! Fresh fruit, breads bacon eggs you name
It, they catered for everyone. The lunch was especially good as everyday they had bbq fish, chicken, steaks with every kind of salad. The dinner was the same ish but you certainly could find something to eat!! I’m not going to lie the entertainment wasn’t the best but we still managed to sit and listen to them every night! All in all we had a great holiday I was pretty worried when I had been reading reviews but I think some folk are just to picky! The pool bar was super! Food was good and drinks plentiful! I even had Prosecco so no complaints from me! The kids had a great time in the pool and the entertainment was super with water polo, bingo, drinking games! All in all a super
Holiday was had! I would recommend this hotel no bother
To friends and family! We had a super stay at Sao Raffael Suits!

Our "Suite was 2 rooms one with a very small ensuite with tiny shower, adjoining room much bigger ensuite but the smallest over bath shower Ive seen. This is not what I would call a suite,
Staff were not attentive in the least, and food was abysmal. Although there was a reasonable selection teverything was cold. Veg was Cauliflower, broccoli and carrots every meal time, always stone cold, the meat/chicken.fish coises also cold.
Even when going for breakfast at 7am when restaurant opened the food was still cold.
One to avoid folks.

Positive points:
Extremely quiet for those who want to rest.
The location, relatively close to everything, even you can walk to the beach.
Suite large but simple, basic furniture.
Parking facility.
There are always sun loungers available in the pools regardless of the time of day.
Negative points:
Without virtually any kind of entertainment/activity be it day or night, it ends up being boring and compels guests to look to do outside the hotel.
The pool water is cold.
Very repetitive food, but very well prepared.
Constant queues to eat, especially at dinner, it is notorious that many guests spend the day out and only come back at the end of the day, the waiting time is short.
In an all-inclusive hotel it is unacceptable that we cover the drinks after 23:00, the reason is more than obvious €€€, the hotel has a lot of English customers.
Getting drinks during meals is almost always complicated, never a staff available and moreover in the hotel most are not Portuguese, but the problem is that some have difficulty understanding Portuguese.
The only bar available at night is small for all guests despite the hotel having few guests currently.
The cleanliness in general was reasonable, in the room was a peanut on the floor for a week, sometimes did not change the dirty glasses, did not repack the toilet paper several times, we only had two bath towels despite being more people.
Clearly the hotel is not focused on families with children but rather on other types of customers looking to spend a quiet day or golfers (foreigners), the hotel is small does not offer anything special to sell as a luxurious holiday destination, taking into account all points would only advise this hotel depending on the type of customer, yet there are better options, the Nau São Rafael Suites having what it has to offer is not a 5-star hotel at all!

I sit writing this very sadly waiting for our transfer home! What a stay!!! Despite some troubles with the door to our room (the frame fell off) the hotel duty management dealt with it very professionally reviewing CCTV to confirm it was an accident etc and even offering us alternative accommodation - ignore other reviews about charging damages for anything this is clearly NOT the case. The rooms are HUGE and have double sinks and all the modcons you could need. The pools are amazing! Plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas everyday with towels available whenever you require them. The pool bar has an excellent selection of drinks (including cocktails) all made with named spirits and the staff couldn’t be more friendly. The Buffet restaurant is incredible with varied selection daily and the lobby bar is always full with entertainment most evenings. The hotel is in a perfect location <10min walk from a secluded beach (with beach bar) and a 5/10min Uber to the main town (less than €5). We honestly couldn’t recommend this hotel more and we will definitely be returning!!!

NAU really should consider what they’re doing with this hotel. We arrived early evening of what I understand was the first day of the season, so I would expect teething problems… but it was as if the team arrived 5 minutes before we did. There is no chance in hell this is a 5* hotel, and whatever facilities they do have they massively piggy back from their nearby sister hotel Atlantico.
The hotel was dead… but after a cold (and uninformed?) welcome not only was it empty, it was lifeless and nothing was on. No TVs or not on, fireplaces not on, wifi didn’t work in the room, lack of music throughout, games room machines not even turned on, 1 of 3 pools empty but all pool areas unusable and caution taped so you couldn’t even go outside to lounge (the staff unaware of when the pools would be ready). I’m not sure there was even a single plant? The hotel is lifeless and like a concrete slab that resembles a “refurbished” hospital or prison. Three members of staff we engaged with apologised and told us it was their first day and weren't sure of what was being asked.
Why were team not brought in sooner to get this hotel ready? Why were team not trained? Why is the hotel so depressing, but worse why are you claiming this to be a 5*?
Thankfully we visited the sister hotel Atlantico (as it seemed we would have to use much of their facilities anyway) and asked if they had spare rooms and if we could transfer. They seemed to understand how bad it was, and thankfully transferred us and tried to match our junior suite and catering option as best they could… we would have taken anything to get out. Atlantico was far better and the team incredible… though still zero entertainment, I get it’s quiet season, but NAU come on, there are simple things a 5* resort should (and could) be offering at all times.
Suites seemed a let down to NAU as a brand and I wouldn’t go near it again, and I’d think twice before ever selecting to stay at another NAU.
Im choosing to use TA as I don’t believe our visit to be a site or staff issue… but a company one. I hope they consider what they’re doing with this hotel, or at least be a little more realistic about what it is they’re selling.

Dear Michael, Thank you for selecting our Hotel Nau São Rafael Suites and for sharing your experience. We are very sorry to hear that your stay fell short of your expectations and we extend our sincere apologies. We would like to note that this situation is very unusual in our hotel. Our aim is to always provide a high level of quality service to all our guests. The start of the season is always a challenging time, and as a result, we have encountered some unexpected situations that we were unable to resolve in time for the opening of our property. We kept our promise to open on time, with the highest level of customer service. Therefore, we are aware of the inconvenience that certain circumstances may have caused our guests and hence, as in your specific situation, we were flexible in supporting your request to move to our immediate property, always with the best purpose of assisting you. We would also like to use this opportunity to highlight that, as we are currently still in low season, the entertainment for adults and children is not yet fully operational in any of our units. At the NAU São Rafael Atlântico, as it is a hotel targeted for couples and for those who enjoy relaxation, the entertainment is more moderate and light, in accordance with the characteristics of our guests. We would like to express our gratitude for the fact that, despite all, you appreciated your stay at our hotel NAU São Rafael Atlântico. Our teams strive to ensure the maximum satisfaction of our guests, so we are very pleased to read in your evaluation that this happened during your stay. We would also like to thank you for taking the time to share your comment with us, which deserved careful attention, as well as for the constructiveness with which it was delivered. We sincerely hope to have the occasion to welcome you on another opportunity and to overcome the less positive image you may have had of the Hotel. With best regards, Beatriz Português Guest Relations

Although it is rated as a 5 star hotel, it is clearly over-rated! Room keycards permanently needing to be reset, forcing us to go over and over again to the reception to fix it.
Long lines to be able to get a table to have dinner or lunch, and the several food offers at the buffet took long time to be refilled/replaced.
Clearly not a 5 star service provided!
Across the street there is a Karaoke Bar, that plays super loud music with crazy drunk people trying to sing.
All the bedrooms facing this Bar condemn their guests, to unbearable out of pitch and loud singing, that will only stop after 00:00h or 1:00h am on weekend or holidays.
Beware, because the hotel doesn't warn us about this situation, when booking! And since the Bar is operating according to the legal and authorised noise period, if you will have a hard time if you wish to try to rest or sleep before the indicated time.
After complaining to the Hotel manager about this situation, I realised it's the Hotel's policy not to warn the guests about the neighbour noise conditions avoid booking reservations to drop. And then deal with guest's complaining "offering" some discount on the guest's next stay!!
I dint need discount, not even for free I would return to this hotel or any other hotel from the NAU hotel's chain!!
For me and my family it's a never again situation!

Responded Sep 1, 2022

+1
We stayed at NAU São Rafael Suites for five nights, and while the experience was okay overall, there were several issues that affected our stay.
On the positive side, we were upgraded to a suite, which was a lovely gesture. The room itself was spacious, with bedroom including a sitting room and , two balconies, and a beautiful layout. However, the bed in the suite was extremely uncomfortable, causing back pain after just one night. As a result, we had to sleep on the sofa bed for the rest of our stay.
We reported the issue to reception, and although one of the staff members said they would address it by adding something to the mattress, no action was taken. After multiple requests, I finally spoke to the manager—three days after my initial request. This delay was frustrating, as I was repeatedly told that the manager was unavailable until after 3 p.m. It’s unusual for a hotel of this caliber not to have a duty manager or supervisor available to address guest concerns promptly.
When we finally spoke to the manager, we were offered a room change. However, since we only had two nights left, we decided to stay in the same room and continue using the sofa bed to avoid the hassle of moving our belongings.
Unfortunately, the service issues continued. On our last night, housekeeping failed / forgot to clean our bedroom and the bathroom or replace the towels, leaving it in a dirty state. After a long day out, we returned to find no fresh towels and an unclean bathroom. We called reception, and while towels were eventually brought to us, the staff member seemed annoyed and did not apologize. When we later requested water, the same staff member returned with a noticeably irritated demeanor, which we found very unprofessional.
Additionally, the bed sheets were not changed during our entire stay, which is surprising for a five-star hotel.
On a positive note, the restaurant was excellent, offering a wide variety of delicious food. Most of the restaurant staff were friendly and accommodating. However, the lack of evening entertainment, even on weekends, was disappointing. Guests were left to entertain themselves, with no live music or activities provided.
Overall, while the hotel itself is in a beautiful location with a great environment, it falls short of the standards expected of a five-star property. The lack of attention to customer satisfaction and inconsistent service left us feeling underwhelmed. I hope this review helps others in planning their holiday and provides feedback for the hotel to improve.

We ventured here for a last-minute holiday and overall the experience was good.
Would we go back again.....
Location 5 - Was great being near the beach, within walking distance to the Marina and far enough out of the centre to avoid the late nights/chaos which does with that, when on a family holiday
Rooms 3.5 - Good size and always kept very clean, however, our experience here was not great, we were originally placed in 206 (over the pool bar) which wasn't the best with young children, however, the hotel did move us to another much better room! We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite in which the lounge/living room should have been made up to increase the number of beds......we asked 4 times for this to happen and in the end gave up, and made the beds up ourselves.
Cleanliness 4 - Overall throughout the hotel was good, however, the pool area toilets need to be cleaned more regularly as more often than not the toilets were in a pretty disgusting mess!
Amenities 4 - All pools were excellent and never felt busy, even in peak season. It was also easy to get a sunlounger, although I would suggest about 50% are broken and need replacing.
Atmosphere 5 - It felt quiet even in the peak season, which for us was perfect, however there could have been more things to do during the day/evening
Value 3 - Based on the food and drink alone; the food was very much rinse and repeat every day with a slight change in the fish/meat available. Didn't feel like 5-star food. Drinks were ok, and always readily available however the cocktail selection was limited at times due to missing ingredients.... mint for example
Service 4 - Some excellent customer service at times, and sometimes some indifferent service. Overall it was good and the team did everything they could when dealing with our request to move rooms.

No, there was no kettle
Whether one was available from reception, I don't know
Hi, don’t know if this is too late, all inclusive cocktails are from a machine so they aren’t great. Beer is nice, other drinks are nice like soft drinks. They do local spirits which are nice but you can pay extra for name brands
Hi,does anyone know how much a taxi is from the airport?
