We spent three months at the marina while circumnavigating the Caribbean . We loved the location! Within 10 minutes of hiking from the marina grounds we begin seeing and hearing lots of wildlife. We saw howler monkeys on almost every hike and white faced monkeys on occasion. We were not birders at the time but we have since learned we... More

Really cool to have crossed the gatun locks though! Seems to be laid back place for retired rich people, quiet atmosphere. Nice little pool (only for sleepover clients though) and beautiful boats. Seafood was okay and the name is changed to Docks.

Stayed two nights and loved the relaxation. My room's private patio, overlooking the Marina, was delightful. Sat out looking at the boats, enjoying the breeze and the sun, sipping wine. Terrific! Had several meals at "The Dock" restaurant. Food and service were very good. And the option of dining outdoors was a nice bonus. Only downside comment is that the... More

The Shelter Bay marina is a mile west of the seawall that marks the northern entrance to the Panama canal, near the former Ft. Sherman and across the bay from the city of Colon. Three of us spent four days here with a skipper who spent two weeks. Marina manager John Holly was particularly helpful in getting a reliable cab... More

We've been to Shelter Bay marina a bunch of times after visiting Gatun Locks with friends. We've also stayed there once for a weekend. Each time we've been delighted with the food, service and facilities. It's a hidden gem among a paucity of choice when visiting the locks, the expansion visitor centre or fort San Lorenzo further up the coast.

Always nice & helpful staff at Shelter Bay Marina and now additional/updated facilities since our 1st transit of the Panama Canal 4 years ago from the Pacific side. Now, my husband & I are with the World ARC's 40 boats going around the world & transiting to the Pacific and were so glad to find the following changes: remodeled &... More

Hopefully, the non-boat-going customer will consider this a thorough review. We found this place via TripAdvisor and thought the location a safe place to stay on the Atlantic Coast. The hotel does not have a reception desk, and the young man working the desk was distracted by other matters for the first 10 minutes I was there. I had a... More

Sailed from Houston to Shelter Bay. ARC was racing around the world, so it was crowded and busy. The Marina staff was helpful and quick to respond to requests for boat travelers. Really got nicer once the 40 boats and 250 crew members headed out thru the Panama Canal. Best shower facilities in the Caribbean! Did not go upstairs to... More

Shelter Bay is a fabulous hidden treasure! From March 2013 - July 2013 the managers and staff took care of my fellow colleagues and me to whatever extent we needed. The food at the restaurant was top-notch. The regular menu was fabulous, definitely the most filling gourmet food I've ever had. The daily specials were unique, well thought out and... More
