Nicest place we stayed on our Panama trip! Soft and comfortable beds protected by good mosquito netting and fan-cooled, private cabana with hammocks, lots of comfortable places to sit and take in the magnificent view in the group area, and best food and drinks we've had in a long time. The professional chef here specializes in chocolate. Delicious! We easily saw the endemic red frogs on the path to our cabana. We took advantage of a free shuttle to red frog beach and walked 45 minutes to beautiful Polo beach with classic palm tree tropical beach scene but nearly empty. We'd of loved a swimming pool but I also didn't mind going down the well-maintained path to jump in the warm and clear water off the dock. Some might not appreciate being always "outside" even while you sleep, but I found it to be magical!

To be in La loma is definitively an excepcional experience. I had never experienced a midnight rain in the middle of a tropical jungle. It is frankly amazing the sound of the rain in the jungle, but your are safe in a very comfortable cabin, with a mosquito netting that protects you from all bugs and a fan than some ven turn it off because they get cold. You even have a shower with hot water. Every morning at 7:00 am sharp , without disturbing you, they put in the entrance of your cabin a tray with a cacao infusion (an incredible taste and aroma) and a banana cake, all in a very nice presentation, just to say good morning. Breakfast is served an hour later. There are plenty of things to do in La Loma and they are very organized in the tours they offer. Or you can simply stay in your cabin and read a book or observe the life in the jungle. Personnel is extremely kind and friendly and are eager to assist you in anyway. Victoria the chef is really special, she goes out and explains every dish you are served with such an enthusiasm that your mouth is watering before she ends her talks. We stayed for 3 nights and felt that we had been longer, but were very sad to depart. It is simply a paradise.

Beautiful property. Definitely remote and jungle feeling. Totally open bungalow, no windows, walls or door. True nature lovers paradise. The jungle is humid so keep this in mind for clothes (fast drying clothes ideal). The mosquito nets around the bed worked ok. Still had to hunt some random bugs before sleeping. Beware of the scorpions as we found one in our room. The walk up to our bungalow was full of red frogs. Very cool to see! Restaurant food was delicious. It is however a bit difficult to have a set time and set menu each night. A bit of flexibility would be appreciated however the fresh fruits, veggies and fish were great overall. It is truly secluded and there is no beach within walking distance of the lodge. You must book a water taxi each time you leave (to Bocas, Old Town, other beaches etc). Activities offered were correct. Solar power and recycled rainwater power this lodge which was fun, too. We had a rainstorm roll through in the early morning hours. I personally loved it. Monkeys frequent the trees as do sloths. The personnel were polite and friendly and always smiling. Much appreciated.

It is without question an extraordinary place with absolutely special bungalows to stay in. These are very well equipped and especially the two new, upper bungalows have a fantastic location.
We were here with six people and had three bungalows. We paid a total of $6500 for 4 nights with various excursions. That is a lot of money.
And that is also my point of criticism. The service is not even close to what you can and should expect for this money. The owner is a stiff, and the management is at their best when they can sell extra services. The staff is made up of interns and locals. Genuine hospitality and an excellent service ethos are in the background here.
Among many things, the crowning glory was that we left the lodge at 8:00 a.m. and the manager bid us farewell in the evening with the words, "Breakfast is not served until 8:00 a.m.. We didn't even get a cup of coffee. What a lousy service for 6500 $.
So if you put a lot of value on location and jungle atmosphere and can put service behind, this is the place to be.

La Loma is truly a one of kind experience. When you first see the lodge from the boat as you are pulling up, you can feel that it is a magical and spiritual place. The rooms are basically like staying in your private treehouse. The jungle is so alive! Mr. Kelly was our guide and there is something very special about him. He took us on a tour and we saw poison dart frogs, hummingbirds, several species of monkeys, and also amazing plants that you may never know what they look like until you see them, such a ginger, cacao, and passionflower. The lodge where you have your meals has the most breathtaking views and energy. Be prepared that you indeed are staying in the jungle with no AC and using mosquito nets at night. But the mosquito nets are more of a tent, so very comfortable and easy, and we didn't have any complaints there. Everyone that works at La Loma is proud and passionate about their lodge and it shows. Jose was our host and honestly I would go back just to see him again! He is so accommodating, well traveled, and funny. La Loma is absolutey fantastic! We opted for the jungle tour instead of the bat cave because it was raining, but I've heard that the bat cave is awesome. Highly recommend La Loma!

We loved our stay at La Loma. The experience of sleeping effectively in the open air in our tree house was incredible. The room was beautifully furnished with an amazing shower within the trees open to the elements.
The cacao farm tour was fun and full of information with a friendly guide and lots of plants tasters on the way round. Relaxing in the main lodge and our treehouse was great and what I feel the main reason for staying here is.
The food in the restaurant was absolutely amazing and they cater to various dietary requirements. I am always wary when you are served a meal with no choice on the menu, but every meal was brilliant with unique ingredients from the onsite permaculture farm.
The walk to and from the room itself is some of the densest rainforest you'll likely ever walk through, with miniature red frogs and sloths. There are also the reserve trails for more of an adventure which we enjoyed doing. Using the kayaks as well to explore the mangroves in the bay was great fun.
The are some things to be aware of as whilst it is a luxury experience it isn't conventional luxury. The rooms are steep, sweaty walks from the main lodge. The bugs are huge and numerous and in our room we were basically sleeping outside with a large mosquito tent around us. The service is good, but not the extremes of luxury service you would usually get when spending this sort of money. The staff were all friendly and helpful when needed, but leave you to your own devices. Dinner is at a set time which is fine, but if you're halfway through a card game you may be ushered to your dinner table. Overall these weren't issues for us as we still found it a luxury experience and would highly recommend it, but may not be what everyone is looking for in this price bracket.

This hotel delivers on its promise perfectly, but that doesn't mean it's right for everyone! The service is gracious and warm and personalized. The food is wholesome, farm to table and tasty. The cabins are gorgeous, spotless (for a jungle setting) and in the most maginificent setting with the most once in a lifetime view we have ever had (and we travel a lot!). The grounds are raw, breathtaking and you will see wildlife, hear the true sounds of the jungle and experience a peace and beauty like we have never seen or felt before. Falling asleep to these sounds, waking up to the sun rise and the smells and breeze of a jungle are unique moments we will always cherish. That said, it's not "luxury" in a traditional sense - the rooms are basic, the food is not "gourmet" and sleeping out in the open is not for everyone. There are most definitely bugs of all types - we didn't get a lot of bites (minimal!) but they most certainly visited our cabin with a huge grasshopper saying hello in our bed, massive spiders at the dining room, etc - it's the jungle, it's open air living and it's expected. Also the lack ot AC was ok, but it was a bit warm to sleep at night. The property is GORGEOUS but there are a lot or steps and hills and it's not easy for everyone. Overall, I will always always remember having that delicious lime, basil, gin cocktail overlooking the jungle and waking up to the crisp sunrise, but we were absolutely ready to go back to some walled accommodation after our 2 spectacular nights!!! Highly, highly recommend but wanted to be sure people know what they are signing up for.

We stayed at La Loma for two nights. The views and the food are incredible! It is quite a hike up the hill initially, but you are rewarded with amazing views when you get to the restaurant area. The food was amazing and they were able to accommodate special diets. I definitely recommend taking the farm tour with Kelly. He was able to show us everything that is grown on the farm and he takes great pride in it. Two nights felt like the perfect amount of time, but I definitely could have stayed another night or two. We moved around and tried several different places in Bocas and this definitely stands out as a favorite spot. We were able to do a yoga class one morning as well. The room was huge and private and had amazing views. It is all open air and the bed is surrounded by a huge mosquito net. We enjoyed the suspended hammocks off of our room too. The chocolate tea and muffins served each morning were a great treat to wake up too as well. If you love nature and are able to do steep steps, this place is a must do!

Everything about La Loma was amazing- the location, the views, the staff, the food, the property, the bungalows. This is the first time we stayed somewhere tropical without a/c (or walls) - we were not sure what to expect but the ceiling fan made the evenings cool and comfortable. We slept under the comforter every night. There was no issue with bugs, insects etc.
There was plenty to do, we stayed for 6 nights and everyday was an adventure - hiking through the rainforest, kayaking through mangroves, boating through freshwater creeks and around the islands of Bocas del Toro, exploring the permacultures farm and island beaches all surrounded by beautiful flora and exotic animals.
The assistant manager Giselbia was fantastic. She was incredibly helpful and made us feel at ease as soon as we arrived. All the staff was great and is a big part of why this place is a huge success. The food is excellent. We did not have a repeat meal for our entire stay.
Every night after dinner the staff helps you plan your activities for the next day. If you are going to be off property La Loma will pack you picnic lunch (so good) and provide you with beach towels and snorkeling equipment if needed.
The Bat Cave is a must! We did the two hikes which are on the property (red and green) along with the farm tour. We did the jungle hike to Long Beach. We visited Zapatilla Island which is a great trip with Roger. On this trip we saw dolphins and Sloths. We also snorkeled. Red Frog beach is a quick boat ride from La Loma. You can stay at Red Frog where there is a bar/restaurant or walk along the coast to either Polo Beach or Long Beach. This is highly recommended. The beaches are beautiful.
Book your flights to and from BCO first. These flights fill up quickly and you don't want to spend too much time at Bocas Town. Optimally, you arrive at 2pm and the boat shuttle to La Loma will pick you up at 4pm. During our wait we had a great lunch at Bamundi which is next door to JJs. Note JJs is closed on Sundays.

Pros: Amazing biodiversity, incredible staff (especially Jose), great food, great drinks. Very relaxing. Stunning views.
Cons: Very expensive for what it is. Some four star amenities are lacking (our hot water didn't work reliably, we didn't get fresh towels every day and the lights in our room didn't work correctly). The hikes and other activities were nice, but not comparable to some experiences I've had in Costa Rica and other locations (e.g., there was a lot of trash on the beach and our guide, while very nice, didn't carry binoculars or identify much flora or fauna). This is also an open air property, so it can get noisy depending on other guests.
Overall an awesome experience, but we spent almost $2,000 over four nights (including drinks and activities), and I felt the experience wasn't commensurate with that expense.

You want at least 3 days. Some guests stayed in La Loma for part of their stay in the Bocas del Toro Provence but we used La Loma as our home base for 6 nights and found it was the perfect about of time and loved every minute of it.

Yes they are. Further more, it’s literally in the middle of the fauna, it’s magical but therefore you will have to put a repellent and protect yourself from bug bites either way. The beds have mosquito nets though to protect you, but for extra protection , always put repellent!
Hope this helps :)
