We stayed in the unrenovated building, but we were shocked how anyone could rent these rooms out... Old furniture, terribly uncomfortable bed, a bathroom which should have been renovated 30 years ago, lack of cleanliness, spiders taking over after sunset... It's a pity as the 2 km long beach is unique, huge territory without the crowd, playgrounds for children. Breakfast was okay, but no air condition in the hall. Also, we could check in only at 17.30, very annoying!
This huge complex is calling itself retro, while its simply run down and not maintained. We stayed for 2 nights with our 1 year old daughter and the appearance of the room was simply shocking. No make-over in the past 30 years... On the other hand, as it was summer, we didn't really stay in the room much and we enjoyed the fantastic park and beach with all the amenities you can imagine. The beach is not crowded, water clear, you can play ping-pong, volleyball, mini-golf, they even have their own marina. On the further side of the complex are some villas previously used by top communist politicians including Fidel Castro. At the moment they are all closed and falling apart, sadly. So, I would recommend Aliga for a day trip, but stay elsewhere.
Very good located family friendly hotel. compared to a normal 3star hotel I was negatively surprised by the cleanness of the room. Breakfast was ok. The area is beautiful, there is a nice park on the beach, with a playground for the kids.
It was outdated in the eighties, and nothing changed since then. If you're looking for how communist hoteliers treated their local guests, this is the place: no amenities, dirty rooms, squeaky floors, uncomfortable beds, sagging power outlets. The only contemporary thing here is the free wifi.
It's all in the location. If you don't like crowds, if you travel with your dogs, if you like long walks close to your hotel, this is the place for you. Perfect for watching the sunset or play badminton. However: be careful with your booking, bc they might not give you the type of room you booked (terrace-no terrace, view of the park or not, etc), the staff does not really like you, there is no veg food, and you have to deal with loud and drunk people in the middle of the night yourself. It's a shame most of the buildings are just decaying.
