We stayed in a villa directly on the golf course that was comfortable and well appointed. 4 Bedrooms with its own pool. The golfing is very challenging and the course is very well cared for. We were almost by ourselves on a Sunday morning on the course. Some of our group did scuba and they were picked up at the resort’s dock each morning and dropped off there when finished. The resort is close to grocery stores, great restaurants, and several tourist sites. The pool at the Beach club at the resort is fantastic , child friendly, with great food service pool side. There is also a very good bar and restuarant on the main floor of the golf club. Another restaurant located next door at the Ventatas hotel is also first class.
Several of these villas are available on VRBO or directly thru the Pristine Bay management.

We were only here an hour, to enjoy a drink and a swim. The campus is beautiful. They have a shallow lagoon on the beach for swimming or laying along the sand. They have a fantastic pool with plenty of patio with bar. The bar staff were friendly, the drinks were good. I'd love to go back some day for a week. Its pretty fancy, fairly expensive.

I stayed one night in a room with one working light, no TV working and absolutely terrible customer service. I asked and was told I would receive a refund based on the broken quality and have been fighting for over 25 days to get refund as they promised. this place is AWFUL.

We went to play golf and enjoy the pool and beach for a day. Staff was very friendly. We were actually the only ones on the golf course and also the only ones enjoying the pool. We basically had our own private waitress and enjoyed the day!

Beautiful pool and beach area!

I'm sitting in Pristine Bay now, writing this review. There's much to like in Pristine Bay, but overall, the resort needs to work out a number of kinks in its operations and details.

First, the bad so we can end on a good note:

1. The pillows and bedding smell of mildew. In three of the rooms in the two villas my family and I stayed in, the smell was overpowering. If you're sensitive to mildew and mold, bring your own pillow (you can wash the sheets in the villa's washer&drier after you go to a local grocery store and buy your own detergent).

2. The internet speed is modem level - expect to pay to upgrade to higher speed internet access, and even then, you may find that speed degrades during the course of the day. Streaming videos and using Netflix will be spotty.

3. The last 4 days we were there (out of 10 days total), the entire resort was on generator power - a portable surge suppressor is a must to avoid damaging your electronics with the constant sags and surges in power from the generator.

4. If your villa has a pool, expect it to be cleaned once every 3 or 4 days - by day 3, the water will feel greasy as I don't think they use that much chlorine.

5. Water damage is beginning to be obvious in both the villas and the main lodge (e.g., the beach house). We're here at the end of the rainy season, and after it finishes raining, you can hear the water dripping down inside the walls in the villa and in the main building, in the lobby, if you look up at the top of the walls/ceiling joints, you can see all the wet spots. I don't foresee the mildew problem getting better unless all the roofs are redone across the villa.

6. Many of the staircases are without railings or only partial railings; some of the steps are non-standard height, and for some of the sunken floors, there is no visual clue that floor is sunken - more than once we had older than 55 family members fall or tumble.

7. The resort is rather isolated (even though its in the middle of the island). Everything is a good 30+ minute drive away.

8. The three restaurants on site are weak, with similar menus and not really that much to distinguish them. Most of the food is trying to be something it's not. Only breakfast is excellent, with the "Honduran Tipico" breakfast being a standout.

9. Finally, be aware that the resort is very, very, very hilly, with steep inclines. If you're out of shape, you'll be calling for a golf cart to go anywhere. (They used to offer all villas a golf cart, but they've been having maintenance issues for several months.)

On the positive side:

1. The service is very good. If you've been to a high-end resort in Japan, you know what outstanding service is, so this is not that, but it is very, very good. We found everyone - from golf cart drivers to waitresses to front desk staff to the maids to be completely helpful and pleasant.

2. The setting is wonderful. There are few things better than waking up to watch the ocean (although you won't hear the small waves for the sound of the huge generator...).

3. Aside from golf, tennis, several swimming pools, and a small, shallow "wading" beach, the activities are located outside the resort - and the staff is super helpful about making reservations for you, getting car or van service, and so on. Don't waste your time trying to do things yourself; figure out what you want to do/see and then work with the staff to help coordinate everything.

4. The villas are big, with plenty of space to spread out. Even with 15 people spread over two villas, I never felt crowded.

5. The villas are well equipped with front-loading washer & drier, refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, and marble countertops. Every room (or sleeping area) has its own thermostat for the A/C, making life comfortable.

As a result, IMHO, these benefits tend to help cancel out some of the negatives, and so I give Pristine Bay a 3 out of 5.

Would I stay here again? No. Not unless someone else was picking up the tab. For my money, there is better out there.

Response from PristineBay, General Manager at Pristine Bay Resort
Responded May 16, 2014
Dear Callias, Thank you for your constructive reviews and for providing us with such valuable information that allows us to improve our service and the small details that have big importance. Before I start answering your comments let me inform you I am the new hotel manager since 2 months ago. I also want to say THANK YOU for taking the time to share your experience with us as it has been very useful. These are the actions we have to took in answer to your comments point by point: 1.Since 2 months ago, we have a weekly meeting with the managers of each department and the feedback we received from our check out clients is a main subject to treat. We give extremely high priority to this valuable information as it allows us to improve from the constructive comments and to encourage our team to keep doing what clients like about our service. 2.Internet Service. Please have in consideration Roatan is an island so the speed of internet is not like in the main land. We do our best and we pay extra to the data company to have the faster possible but still we have to adapt to the fact we are located on an island. 3. We have our own generator and there is nothing we can do when the power goes down in the island as this is a public service. The best solution is to have our own generator which is the same we use for our offices and so far there has not been any damages in any of our equipment. 4. We have a maintenance manager that takes care of the pools. We have a very strict process with the pools maintenance and the chemicals we use to treat them. We have rarely received a complain about the water being greasy but we have add this details to the “be careful” list for the pools supervisor. 5. please note we check each villa from top to bottom in different periods of the year as we face weather changes that might affect the house in some aspects. In this specific case, it was a construction problem but it was managed and solved by our team immediately. Kindly have in consideration due to weather conditions we are vulnerable to face this issues but we are welled prepared to do everything in or power to avoid cases like this from happening. 6. Note each house has its owner and each house respect the regulations we require but we cannot force the owner of the house to treat its house as it was a hotel room. Please do not misunderstand me as you can be sure we revise every detail to make sure the house has all the safety requirements accomplished. 7. Note we are clear in our website and in every brochure we promote ourselves that our main product is to offer privacy, luxury and peaceful environment. Nevertheless for people looking to have a more active vacation, we have an activity desk located right next to the front desk. Also take note our staff is naturally from the island so they are fully informed about all the activities you can enjoy inside the resort and outside too. Being able to assist all our clients to make their stay the best possible, is basically our main purpose and we are aware it can only be accomplished with people with the correct attitude and knowledge. 8. It is true it is quite challenging to please everybody with the food and menus but our F&B manager is constantly trying to improve our menus and the quality in all of our 3 restaurants. As a matter of fact one of our restaurants is consider one of the best for sushi and it is also famous for its amazing views. We thank your positive comment about the breakfast. 9. Note regardless of the availability of golf carts to rent we always provide transfer service internally in one of the 5 six-seaters we have assigned exclusively to pick up our guests wherever they are at the moment they ask in their own house. ** For the rest of the positive comments, I thank you in the name of all our ladies and gentleman that work in Pristine Bay!

This resort is in a secluded area of Roatán just about 20 minutes from the airport. The drive up the very steep hilly road with its ups and down is breath taking, not because of the deep slopes but of the picture-perfect views. Once in the reception area you quickly become aware of the quality of service, the great staff and the beauty of the villas. We rented two villas, a two-bedroom and a three-bedroom, on top of a hill with an awesome view of the ocean. Each villa with its own private small swimming pool and terrace that invites you to just stay put and go nowhere. The villas are beautifully kept, large and fully equipped with an outstanding maid and maintenance service. They are very well air-conditioned. Although not all the villas are close to the water, all of them offer picture-perfect views of the pristine ocean. A grocery store is just five minutes away ($20 taxi roundtrip with the driver waiting for you and even helping with carrying the groceries inside) with everything you need to have all your meals inside, if you wish. The staff members are very attentive and go out of their way to ensure your stay is pleasant and you are well. If you walk into the large pool after they have closed it, they will send a bartender down to take care of your beverages and snack meals. The music in the pool is very nice, chilled-lounge style. You don't really need to go out of the resort if you don't want to. You can feel lonely though! That was great for us. It is very quiet and makes you feel you are the only guests so it gives you this solitary owner feel to your experience. The spectacular sunrise comes about 5:30am so I recommend you sleep with the curtains opened up so that you have no need for an alarm clock. Be aware that when you go to bed, the etheric silence will drive you to the deepest realms of your dreams interrupted maybe by a passing night bird or a small cricket outside. The sunsets, ah the sunsets, are the closest thing I have seen that will match Punta del Este in Urugüay, and the view from the infinity pool is unbelievable.

If you are like those that like the noise, busy streets, and the crowds of vacation places, and the conglomerate of different styles of music, you may feel bored here. For that purpose you need to go to West End and West Bay. Both are full of hotels, bars and restaurants with lots of people walking around and, in West End, drinking around. Although nice places to visit and probably stay, we were a little disappointed with their "commercial" feel to them. Both are located a solid 45-minute wavy drive away and will have most the best places for scuba diving, snorkeling, or just be in a "beach environment", for a while. To get there you either need to rent a car, if you are brave enough, or use taxis/shuttle busses which may charge you up to $100 to take you there and back. Depending on the number of days you are staying, the rental is a more viable option (if money is an issue).

Again, if you like the solitude, the calmness and the beauty of a true paradise, Pristine Bay is the resort for you. So what did we do? We enjoyed every minute in Pristine Bay, the mornings, the sunsets, the friendly staff and amenities, and visited West End and West Bay a couple of times but always looking forward to return to our private paradise. Are we coming back? You bet we will!!!

I stayed at Pristine Bay last year for new years and had such an amazing time that we are going again this year! The resort and the island are breathtaking! I stayed in a 2 bedroom villa, and it was brand new. The villa was very nice and spacious! I loved the furniture and decorations. The staff was so friendly and the amenities are outstanding! Anything you ask for, they will get for you! I would recommend this resort for everyone/anyone. It is great for families, couples, friends etc. I liked that it wasn't crowded and they have lots of things to do (tennis, soccer, gym, pools, beach, water activities, GOLF, etc. and many places to eat. You don't need to leave the resort, but if you wanted to there are a good restaurants and other resorts just outside pristine bay! Our friends stayed in a villa right across the street from us and it was also very nice! The spa wasn't built yet, but I cant wait to see it when it is! Pristine Bay will exceed your highest expectations. The resort and views are even better than the photos!

We spent over 75 minutes getting there because there was some sort of protest with demonstrators at the main entrance. They took us around to the service entrance but the road was all ruts and potholes, and then became so muddy the bus driver said it wasn’t safe. He stopped three times to ask people directions and everyone gave a different answer, including the security guard at the back gate. We were on a cruise ship excursion. It was supposed to be a 30 minute drive, but there is a lot of road construction going on so a lot of delays as they only let one lane go at a time. Ok just as long on the way back.

Basically free access to their private beach and both pools. There are cabanas and beach umbrellas all on a first come first serve basis. We went in May and there was really no one else there but us. There is also a restaurant w/bar and an outdoor grill w/bar. That's about it though. Not much else to do. There is a golf course, but I'm not sure what the rates and access are.

We actually visited Pristine Bay as an Excursion on our Western Caribbean Cruise. From the cruise port it was about a 30 minute bus ride; however I don’t know how far it would be from the airport.

I don't remember any place to snorkel. The swimming area is relatively small and I didn't see anyone venture outside the roped off areas. For a resort I thought the food and drink was reasonable. We ate at the outdoor grill and they brought the food right out to the cabana. For two of us...two lunch entrees and four beers it was about $50. I'm not sure what the pricing on the restaurant is.
