I thought I had written a review but seems I didn't. This is a beautiful, relaxing, immaculate country house hotel. The public rooms are lovely and the bedrooms are spacious and comfortable. Fantastic food and great service from all staff.
My mother and I came for an overnight stay in October to celebrate her birthday. She had been wanting to have her 80th birthday party here, but couldn't due to COVID restrictions. We still hope to do this in the future, at this establishment. The staff were all as polite and charming as ever, nothing was too much trouble. Everyone adhered to Covid regulations rigorously. We had a pre-dinner drink in the gazebo outside - it was raining, but there was a heater and blankets available, so we were very comfortable. We then had a mostly delicious dinner, and breakfast the next morning was excellent. I would have given five stars but for the following - I had booked about six weeks in advance, had paid extra to bring my dog (who was made a great fuss of by the staff) and I also informed the hotel at the time that I am coeliac, so have to rigorously avoid gluten. When I was shown to my room, there was a dog bed on the floor. However, it was only really suitable for a chihuahua. Dogs come in all shapes and sizes - mine is an overweight Labrador, he couldn't have even managed to sit in the bed that was available, much less sleep in it. I had to go and get the bed I have in the back of my car, which I would have preferred not to do, it was pouring with rain, as it was the next morning when I had to carry it back to the car. The dinner was, for the most part, excellent. My mother enjoyed everything and I had a delicious starter (ham hock terrine) and main course (rump of lamb). However, when I enquired what would be safe for me to have as a dessert, I was told by the waiter 'fresh fruit'. It was a cold, wet night and I really didn't feel like fresh fruit. Besides which, whatever the weather, fresh fruit is NOT a dessert. This isn't the first time that I've been faced with fruit for dessert, but I had hoped for more from this establishment. They did have six weeks notice. And gluten-free desserts are not hard to manage. However, everything else was simple gorgeous. Breakfast was excellent (I had gluten free toast and even had a decaffeinated cappucino. So on the whole, an excellent stay and we will be coming again. But if anyone from the hotel reads this - not all dogs are tiny and coeliacs like to eat desserts too.…
My Fiancé and I decided to treat ourselves to a 2 night stay here for our wedding weekend. We arrived the day before our wedding and was greeted by a very lovely gentleman opening the door for us! We were then very warmly greeted by the receptionist (Nikola), who proceeded to take us round the hotel for a quick tour and then up to our room which was a lovely touch! The room itself was absolutely beautiful and my Fiancé and were very very happy with it! We had a meal in the restaurant that evening which was WOW, we love our food but rarely treat ourselves to finer dining so it was a really treat for us to have such high quality, fresh produce! Our actual wedding venue was not in the hotel but very local so we were out most of the day but before we left the staff were very helpful and all waved us off as we drove away. All of which really added to our celebration, especially when we had no family or friends present on the day due to Covid, so thank you that was really appreciated! We were booked in again at the restaurant for the second night and again delicious! I didn't get the ladies name who served us both nights, but she was really friendly and she looked after us really well! We also asked for some mocktails that evening as I am pregnant and my partner does not drink and oh my goodness, these were the best mocktails we have ever had. The gentleman came through from the bar to let us know what he had made us (I want to say his name was Cameron) and they were sublime! Overall from the beginning to the end it was an absolute joy to stay here and we could not have asked for a better stay to celebrate our wedding! We will definitely be back and could not recommend highly enough! Thank you very much to all the staff :)…
My husband and I had booked in a long overdue weekend away leaving our two young children with my parents. On the eve of our visit the Scottish government announced no alcohol sales after 6pm- disappointed was an understatement. However we still wanted our trip away. Upon arrival - the hall is utterly beautiful and not a penny has been spared in the interior. I am in the Interiors industry and it even blew me away. Every corner is cosier then the previous one. All staff very friendly but attentive. We were shown to our room- not huge but still beautiful with very comfy bed and pillows. We were a little disappointed there was no bath however we did try to move rooms but the hotel was full. They had set up a gazebo outside for us to be able to have drinks in with outdoor fire pits and blankets so it was very cosy. The meal and breakfast was fantastic and you couldn’t fault the food. We spoke to the new head of food and beverages who had not long moved over from Germany who was very helpful and friendly. We are really excited to come again once the state of the art spa and new rooms have been built and hopefully we can have a drink by the fire that time! Really hope they put bath tubs in the new rooms and we will be one of the first to book! Definitely do not hesitate to book to stay here. …
Last overnight during our tour of Scotland - what an amazing experience!. This is a beautiful old hotel that is appointed to the highest quality. Lovely open fires in the ground floor bar and lounges. Furnished to the highest quality - our room was stunning with a 4 poster bed, super comfy and high quality linen. Staff were so lovely and helpful, food was superb (both evening meal and breakfast). Amazing grounds and walks - very, very dog friendly. We are not often blown away, but on this occasion we were - really sad that this was only one night, we shallop be returning!!.
