We arrived by the smooth, quiet 300 kph afternoon train from Valencia. Since this fast track is in the valley, a 10 minute (12E) cab ride is necessary to access Cuenca. The lovely receptionist/owner quickly detailed the card key hotel exit/entry, the local restaurants, a town map, and insisted we take the 1.05E bus, accessed right outside the door, all the way to its terminus. After taking the 3' x 3' elevator to our large pleasantly purple 2nd floor room with desk, 2 chairs, and wardrobe, we did just that.
The #1 Bus (ea 30 min) wound up through the narrow streets of the extended Old Town for 15 minutes, ending at the Castillo Viewpoint. Here, the cliff-side houses noted by Unesco and the adjoining valley views were so incredible, we decided to walk back to the Cathedral, behind it to cross the steel bridge, then down along the fast stream, all the way back to the hotel.
We enjoyed a quiet night in the large comfortable bed in our street view room as it was double window...

We chose the Hotel Pedro Torres based on online reviews and location in the city center and we were not disappointed. From the street, the hotel does not look like much, but the welcoming atmosphere more than made up for any lack of external beauty. The staff was so helpful, we were very impressed. They were sincerely happy to answer all our questions and help us with all sorts of advice to help us make the most of our visit to Cuenca. The room was basic, very clean and quiet. The hotel is not in the touristy district, but it is in the city center, with all amenities close by. If you want to be up on the hill, in the old city, look elsewhere, but otherwise the Hotel Pedro Torres is a great choice. I would definitely stay here again. The price was very reasonable too.
