Superb location 2 minutes from Plaza Major. 10 minutes from the cliff houses and the gorge bridge. 15 minutes other way is Mirador bars restaurants. Generally the rooms are simple but comfortable. Bathroom generously sized. Breakfast at €6pp was a steal. Ive stayed at dozens of hotels in the 11 years ive lived in spain and probably the best ive eaten. Parking 100 m away. We went to the Parador another 4* hotel for dinner and although the Parador is more luxurious I wouldn’t stay anywhere else.

This is a hotel in a renovated monastery, although you wouldn’t really know except for the facade and the sign. It’s modern and well kept, rooms are spacious ( we had attic rooms) and clean, but lack anything historical. They’re good but like any other modern hotel. You’ll be stepping right onto the main Street that takes you from the old town plaza mayor to the castle area. Can’t beat that.

The village of Cuenca is a must when you are in Spain, and the tastefully renovated Convento del Giraldo is the perfect place to stay. In the heart of the Old Town (where you have to be) it is adjacent to the town square and Cathedral. If you listen carefully you can hear the singing, chanting and praying seeping from the walls of this old convent. And Cuenca is much more than the feature that it is famous for, the Hanging Houses.

Our Superior room 409 was on the top floor (elevator and one flight of stairs to the roof.) King bed and nice bathroom. From private terrace and windows we could see both sides, Parador, Huecar river gorge and beautiful tiled roofs. Buffet breakfast was nice, free wifi was ok. Enjoyed the in room coffee machine. Receptionist was very friendly. In May 2019 weather was windy and chilly, we did not get to use the terrace as much as we wanted. This room was lovely and comfortable. Walking around Cuenca is a joy, mini streets that lead to views and courtyards and small restaurants. Even if Convento del Giraldo is on the steep street, it is very close to the main square with shops and restaurants, church and the historic Hanging Houses. Nearby, lunch at fancy Figon del Huecar tasting menu was expensive but worth it. Service a bit slow, but food was delicious. We were instructed ahead of time, upon arrival to stop a few minutes in front of reception to unload and get a discount parking ticket for a lot up ahead. We were glad we had a small Fiat 500 to maneuver through the narrow cobble streets. We got gas in lower Cuenca before going up. No gas stations here. Be sure to take the small red tour train (tren turístico) similar to the hop on-off buses you see in every tourist town. In Cuenca it has to be small to maneuver around the narrow cobble stone streets. Leaves early morning from the upper plaza next to the church. It is a good option to see old and new Cuenca. Saves you from looking for parking and having to walk up and down the hills. It will go up the castle, down to visit Hanging Houses, bridge and drive around the new Cuenca along the river. No need to get down, just do the full circuit and you can decided later where to spend the rest of the day. We paid directly to the driver. November to March. Early morning while we waited for the red tour train, we paid to visit inside the church. It was extensive and impressive, give it at least 1 hour. All the way on top, in castle area are many restaurants and free parking, however it is very busy, you need to be lucky to get a spot. Views are spectacular. In the afternoon we walked to the Hanging Houses. We could only see them from the outside. They were being remodeled. We were driving from Jumilla to Madrid and Cuenca was a very nice stop in the middle of the trip. Started in Barcelona, went to picturesque towns like Guadalest and Peniscola. Made a visit to Caves Codorniu. Experienced olive oil tasting in Mas la Boella. Jumilla had great Monastrell wines. Roads are in perfect condition and with a good updated navigator and Google Maps we could visit anywhere. Spain is a great place to travel.

I would rate this Hotel as poor. We arrived after 3pm. The incredibly grumpy unprofessional and scruffy older man behind the rather unkempt reception desk informed us only one of our two rooms were ready (check in time is 2pm). When asked how long we would need to wait. He responded that he didn’t know!! The rooms, when we got them were small and worn. Plenty of mould on the grout in the bathroom. The ac unit in one of the rooms did not work. Both rooms chairs were rickety. The location was good. The shower powerful, though you did need to be a contortionist to actually get past the toilet and shower screen. Breakfast was pretty horrid. The hot options and cold. The coffee machine was slow though produced passable coffee. I would recommend going elsewhere. Checkout was with the same grumpy fellow. In summary this is a 2 star level hotel with poor service and quality levels at that. There is nothing boutique about it.
