Hotel Tal Affiliated by FERGUS offers a unique atmosphere that pulls travelers into its old-fashioned Spanish charm, though the music selection can be quite eclectic for some. While the proximity to the beach is a highlight, guests have pointed out that the uphill journey may be a bit demanding. The service receives mixed reviews, with staff being both commended for their friendliness and criticized for occasional rudeness. Room experiences vary, with complaints of outdated decor and malfunctioning air conditioning, but cleanliness levels are often praised. Despite appreciating the all-inclusive perks, many guests feel the food and drink quality could detract from the overall value.

As seen in a number of reviews this hotel does cater more for German and Dutch guests , this is not a criticism but just to let people know . What I can say is that this is a nice hotel in a fair location (on a hill) with a bit of a trek to the beachfront . The pool is small and there aren’t enough sun beds particularly at high season . That having been said the overall experience is not that bad . What I would like to criticize is the fact that this was bought as an all inclusive experience which it is not . This is not necessarily the fault of the hotel as the Spanish government seems to have designated certain areas as problematic and has mandated that hotels in these areas can only give three beers/ wines to guests at lunch and the same at dinner . The amount has been arrived at somewhat randomly as they can then go on to sell you as much alcohol of all types as they like outside the restaurant setting . This is an ill judged policy which will end up costing Spain in tourist numbers . I would argue that there is also some illegality in selling me a holiday as all inclusive when it simply is not !! Might I suggest that these areas should not be allowed to sell holidays as all inclusive but that a new category needs to be made to accommodate a restrictive practice and perhaps these hotels should only be allowed to be sold as full board plus . Full board for the food ie breakfast lunch snacks and dinner together with soft drinks which are available all day but the plus comes from the six drinks you are being allowed in the package . I am satisfied that this could be sold more successfully than trying to sell it as all inclusive on a decidedly dodgy footing . I will be posting this same tirade to facebook if it goes viral perhaps something may be done about this harsh law which punishes all including the responsible drinkers and treats everyone as children

After reading recent reviews, as a family we were very worried about our recent stay.
There was no need.

Hotel staff are very happy and cheerful. There was always a good selection of food. A short walk to the beach ( down a steep hill) entertainment was basic, but good, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Meal times are good, not having to wake up at the break of dawn for breakfast. Pool area clean and tidy ( could do with more sunbeds) reception staff are helpful and very accommodating when requesting more pillows etc.... air con is not the best, however we managed to leave it on all day by putting another store card in place. Was a nice welcome coming back to the room that was very cool.
Bar staff by the pool are always smiling and friendly.
We stayed for a week and was very impressed by the hotel. Please ignore too many bad reviews, youll make what you want of the hotel. Some people expect 5* amenities for 3* prices.
I would definately return. Beautiful area, lovely resort. My family & I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

We stayed here for 3 nights. It's 15 minutes from the airport, which was great.
The hotel is old fashioned but nice.
All inclusive in Spain doesn't mean all inclusive like in other countries. The lunch was the same as the dinner not much variety. If you are a picky eater you may not enjoy the options. The beach is at the bottom of a steep hill but not too far from the hotel.
The entertainment in the evening was enjoyable. Overall it was a nice little break. The staff work hard and are friendly.

Avoid at all costs
Food is terrible, dinner is rehashed from lunch, no variety. Absolutely disgusting, we have eaten out a few nights. When people in the past have said to me that there is nothing for them to eat, i have never believed them, but after this i now know what they mean, unedible. I have travelled the world and stayed in all sorts of hotels but never had food like this before. No prawns in the paella, that's not paella for goodness sake. Same food day in and day out.
The all inclusive consists of 3 drinks each at lunch and dinner as Arenal is in the restricted zone, and these drinks must be drunk in the restaurant, cannot take to the bar or your room.
Some of the restaurant staff could do with customer service training, very abrupt and not interested, in particular the 2 older guys who i assume are the restaurant managers
The pool area is ok, could do with investing in new sun beds though but plenty of room.
The rooms are basic but cleanish, we asked for fresh towels daily due to the heat and amount of showers needed.
Evening entertainment is very Spanish, music etc, dj not happy when asked for English music.
One day the background music by the pool was all christmas songs, in July????
We booked through Jet2 and we haven't seen a rep yet!!
Arenal is a very German and Dutch resort, so don't expect any English bars. The hotel has a lot of groups of young people in, who i must say have been in good spirits and generally well behaved.

The pictures do not reflect this hotel, it is old and needs big update, limited sockets, shower rail held up by chain as was hanging off wall, balcony doors did not close correctly and so could not lock, Aircon is non-existent. Not even anywhere to keep cold drinks in room or facilities of any kind to make a drink, although this is an “all inclusive” hotel you are not able to get a drink from anywhere after 11pm (even cold drink as vending machine out of order all week). Between 10am and 11am you are not able to access soft drinks as the bar does not open until 11am. Although we were aware of a new law that came into place about drinking, we have been to other hotels in the area where the alcoholic drinks were not limited, this hotel did not mention this when we booked it and it was only a very rude bar man who told us “No! upstairs only at mealtimes “. Food in the restaurant was luke warm most of the time and a very limited selection to chose from, if you are happy to eat anything and the same thing each day you will not find this a problem, however if you like salad or plain food this is not for you, salad choice was lettuce and tomato every day in a week apart from the last day where they put out some cucumber. We had to pay money to go out and eat a few times just to have something other than French stick and chips. Male bar staff were very rude and made no effort to understand you if English, I was “shooed” away to que at the other end of the bar by hand gestures and then was not served until after others had been, even though I had been (like most others) waiting on the other side of the bar and being served by the female staff all week. There were only 2 female staff who did this hotel proud as they were helpful and happy, always had a smile for you and made an effort. A warning to others, if you need any kind of disability aid or access once in the hotel everywhere you will need to access (including pool) is down flights of stairs, also if you have children there is no activity other than the pool for them and female lifeguard does not seem to be very observant or even interested in watching (other than her phone). We will never return to this hotel, TUI have rated this as a 2* which is more than generous, we were unable to look at reviews before booking as assumed that Jet2 would have only given 3* rating to something worth it. Only way to make any form of complaint to Jet 2 was at your cost by phone.

2/3 of the pool area in shade all-day and hardly any sunbeds. on arrival we were ignored why the guys on reception carried on there conversation. Two lifts which could only allow four people in at one time and every other day one broke down ,we happen to be on the 9th floor. The food was DISGUSTING and i am absolutely sure that what ever food gets left from any sitting gets made in to some kind of meal. It all looks the same and tastes awful. Aircon broke on day 2 and never worked the rest off our stay. Our views from balcony were into some ones flat. The 6 acholic drinks (3 at lunch/3 dinner) could only be gotten in the dinning room's even though there is a proper functioning bar down in the entertainment room! you could not get those 6 free drinks from there. Also if you want to take the remainder of your quota they had to be poured into plastic beakers. the hotel is at the top off a very steep hill , great going down to beach but knackering walking back ...

The hotel has excursion company called Coming2 which I used to book 5 different trips. I have Dyslexia and on one of the trips i informed the lady Elisa that I am waiting near the pick up location 10 min early. She didn’t clarify if I am waiting at the correct location. The bus left. I called the lady she booked taxi for me which I had to pay.€30 I informed her that I paid you for the excursion I can’t pay for the taxi as well. She said I can’t refund you the money you either go or you lose your money.

We arrived on 16th October wary having read previous negative reviews. Our room was basic but clean.
The beds were appalling, uncomfortable and quite unstable with clear damage to the legs.
The door to the balcony did not lock and was very stiff to open, the lack of security was quite concerning.
The air conditioning did not work, the room was incredibly uncomfortable in the evenings to the extent we started looking for other places to stay. A lack of a fridge in the room meant we could not keep anything in there. The food in the Buffet was almost inedible and very repetitive. We only ate in the hotel once and then didn't do so again, this was particularly annoying as we had paid for an all inclusive stay. We cannot stress enough that we would NOT stay here again and would recommend anyone else to give this place as wide a berth as possible. For your own sake stay somewhere, anywhere else!

Food is absolutely vile!! Not edible not cooked properly cold and just gross! Had to live on bread rolls and eat out as we couldn’t stomach any of it. All the sun loungers were either broken or being taken by 7am in the morning! Not enough sun loungers for the amount of rooms! Pool is freezing cold and there is absolutely no sun on the pool. Completely shaded! Had to pay everyday for sun loungers down the beach. Customer service appalling, someone pood and weed all over the floor and stairs I tried to report they brushed me off and then just put a wet floor sign over it and left it there all night for the cleaner to do in the morning so the whole of our floor absolutely stunk made me sick! Lifts were always broken, pool side snacks? An absolute joke mouldy sandwiches and a cake if you were lucky! Air con in room didn’t work so unbearable to sleep at night, balcony door didn’t shut or lock properly. Room is very basic. Advertises entertainment? Never on unless a bit of bingo. The only good thing I have to say was location if you don’t mind a steep hill walk but other than that the rest was a complete waste of money and can honestly say was the worst place I have ever stayed! Don’t even try contacting the hotel or FERGUS to complain as they just stop responding don’t care as they have already had your money! The hotels response was pretty much tough luck!! Not all inclusive at all can only have 3 beers or wine with lunch and dinner can’t be taken out of restaurant and if you need a soft drink/water between the hours of 11pm & 8am no chance!! So so disappointed do not waste your money or time booking here please!

The 6 drink rule can you have the 6 drinks throughout th day or just with meals?
Answer from Ian1416
Stockton-on-Tees, United Kingdom56 contributions18 helpful votes
As previous contributor , drinks are total number can’t be taken out of the room and they don’t like you getting a second or third drink while you still have a partially full glass . It’s supposed to be to prevent drunken behavior but you can buy as many drinks as you like in the bar downstairs but you css as not get your free ones from it . I’d choose a hotel in a different area if you want a proper all inclusive
