One thing we could not fault was the cleanliness. Wherever you went it smelt of nice clean soap and the bed linen/towels were fresh. Check in was quick, we arrived around 2am and had to pay the usual tourism tax, which being a 2 star hotel, it wasn’t very much at all. It obviously has been recently renovated, yes the further you go up the stairs the older the flooring becomes but come on- who goes on holiday to moan about old floors?
I really didn’t mind our room, the bed was big and super comfortable, even a third bed which we used as clothes storage! Freshly painted walls and very clean. The wardrobe was nice and new with 10 hangers and there was a safe too but we did not use. The bathroom was basic but we had no problems with water temperature and enjoyed our daily showers. This hotel gave me Travelodge vibes.
So, now the things we think could definitely be improved upon to gain more clientele. I really think as a hotel you need to listen to the reviews about noise and come up with a solution. It was the only thing to be honest that made us slightly unhappy with our stay! We had room 408 which was right next to the elevator and it kept me awake most nights… you could hear it going up and down, people’s conversations, and the lift door being smashed against the walls when people open it.
Breakfast was raised to 9 euros during our stay, we tried it once, arriving at 9:15am. What was left of the baguette was not enough for two people and didn’t get replenished but the scrambled eggs and bacon did. I don’t think it was worth 9 euros but it was nice to enjoy the “hotel experience” and the food was nice!
We thought there was a drainage problem as every morning when we flushed the loo a smell of rotten eggs filled the bathroom for around 30 mins- 1 hour.
And lastly, the TV situation! I asked reception if there was any English channels as we couldn’t find any and they said there was 2 or 3 but alas we couldn’t find anything. The TV itself is super small and placed on the wall far away so if you’re blind like me it’s a little tricky!
The hotel was very clean. The cleaners were super friendly and always said hello. The pool area was so quiet, we had it to ourselves often. The decor was fairly modern, standard for a budget hotel. A big supermarket just a few minutes walk away, through a park area at the bottom of the road. The beach was a ten minute walk (although it is up hill coming back). Perfect location for the bus stop to visit Palma. On this basis, it was a great budget hotel for a break away.
However, the noise was almost unbearable. El Arenal is a popular party location, with large bars/clubs aimed at German tourists. Which of course, means lots of drunk people. There was absolutely no sound proofing in the hotel room. You could hear every word in the surrounding rooms. You could also hear the loud noise made by the lift, which was in constant use around the clock. One afternoon there was a fight in the room next door, and it sounded like they threw furniture at the walls! I only had between 3 and 5 hours sleep a night, due to loud/drunk people leaving, arriving and just hanging out in the corridors and in their rooms at all sorts of hours. I've stayed in lots of budget hotels in Europe, and hostels but never experienced noise like this. I saw the reviews but assumed it would be fine, but it really is as noisy as everyone says. The first night, I was scrolling through hotel websites at 3am to try and find somewhere else to stay as it was too loud to sleep, although due to cost we decided to just put up with it.
This hotel is probably perfect if you want to stay somewhere low cost and want to party/stay up late every night or are a very deep sleeper! It was clean, had semi comfortable beds and pillows, and an okay shower. However, I personally wouldn't recommend it if you want a relaxing holiday now that restrictions have been dropped.
The room: On the small side but we were there just to sleep and have breakfast so didn't mind. A safe, hairdryer and ceiling fan were included in the room. We stayed in a room that had a balcony.
Service: Reception happily lent us a portable fan upon request as the ceiling fan was not enough to cool the room down. On a couple of occasions, when we rang down to reception for advice the receptionist sounded annoyed.
Breakfast: No frills buffet breakfast filled our stomachs. But we noticed the baked beans were cold on the first day. I didn't try them again so not sure if that was a one off. Moderate choice of food items which you helped yourself too. You could have cereals, brioche rolls, toast, boiled eggs, Spanish ham & bacon, scrambled eggs, yogurts or fruit. The juice machine gave a large choice of drinks but they came out slightly warm.
Taxi service: the receptionist was able to order a taxi to the airport and it would come within 5 minutes.
Location: Excellent. Beach was roughly 5 minutes walk away as were the shops bars & restaurants.
This hotel was awful!
The staff were pleasant and friendly. However, they could only work with what they have.
The photos do not reflect what you will find at the hotel. There are 11 sun loungers available for the entire hotel. The rooms are dated and many look unclean as a result. My room had black mould in the shower. The toilet flush was broken which I had to fix myself.
There are 2 bars. One inside, one by the pool. Both unmanned leaving guests to obtain their own drinks from a nearby supermarket.
After complaining about guests returning at the crack of dawn, singing, shouting and generally being disruptive, nothing was done.
If you are travelling as a family this is certainly not the place you want to be.
If you are looking for a simple base, that if booked in advance can be reasonably priced, then you get what you pay for. That said I have seen nights being priced in excess of 100 euros. For that price you can book an all inclusive hotel which would be a much more pleasant enjoyable stay.
Now for the few good points....
It is located quite close to the beach. However if you have mobility issues walking to and from will be challenging due to the steep climb up from the main strip where the beach is located. Same applies accessing vlbars and restaurants.
If you have no mobility issues than you are 5-10 minutes walk from pretty much everything you need to have a better time.
Overall I was disappointed with what I found
I must say, on Monday night, there was a male receptionist doing the shift. My partner and I asked for some ice, the receptionist asked me to wait whilst he finished with a customer. So I waited. All of a sudden he begins to swear, everything he was saying sounded so rude. I didnt understand if it was at me? He made me feel really uncomfortable.
Therefore my overall rating is 4 stars.
Thank you for the experience! Muchas gracias !!!
