This was my second stay at The Pheasant and I had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. I arrived at around 9pm from London where I live and work and received a warm welcome from the proprietors. The restaurant was full and there was a mixture of locals and visitors enjoying the scrumptious beer and homemade food which looked delicious. My room...

A one night stay turned into a perfect short break. Arrived early and went for a long walk around the fields and woods following the footpaths. On our return we were shown to our rooms and what a delight ours was - large, comfortable, warm with a lovely view over the fields. There was a plentiful supply of teas (yes,...

An unexpected invitation to celebrate the New Year with friends.,gave us the great good fortune no only to enjoy excellent company, but a warm friendly welcome to this really love old inn. The evening included 10 taster courses, which actually allowed us to actually really taste the food, as portions were generous, not bite size, There was a quiz which...

We were staying in Belchamp Walter for Chistmas and this was recommended in our cottage as a dog friendly pub and the closest to where we were staying. Headed over there on a crisp winters day with our dog, only to be told we couldn't come in with our dog as the chef was allergic to dogs. It was a...

We saw a review in The Sunday Telegraph and decided to pay a visit. The best decision ever. Our room was beautiful. Spotlessly clean, lovely furnishings and fittings and the bathroom with its double shower was brilliant. Diana and James and their staff made us so welcome and were so friendly we felt as if we had known them for...

Lovely owners. Very large modern comfortable room overlooking fields. Stayed 2 nights & ate in restaurant both nights. Food excellent. Homemade chocolate chip cookies in room a nice touch. Rooms were themed to local famous people & we were in the Oates room.

My partner and I have just returned from a wonderful stay. Our room, The Thomas Gainsborough was magnificent, very spacious and clean, outstanding food (would recommend the pork belly) and service. We will definitely be returning again soon. Thank you.

My wife and I stayed here yesterday, and I can truly say that it was a pleasure to stay at such a great hotel. The food was excellent, and the service was outstanding. Diane and her husband really made us feel so welcome- nothing was too much trouble for them. The room we stayed in (John Constable) was fantastic. There...

We stayed here for our anniversary and were not disappointed. Our room was the Thomas Gainsborough Room on the ground floor which has a huge bed, big bathroom and a walk in shower with a fixed shower head which when you are small is not so good. It would have been lovely if there had been a bath, there is...

Old hostelry which is now mainly a restaurant with adjoining coach house converted in recent years to create 5 bedrooms. We had the Stuart Courtauld room on the first floor overlooking open Essex countryside, all nicely decorated and furnished in character with the property with a very modern en suite with walk in shower. Dinner on both evenings was enjoyable...
