We stayed here for our anniversary and were not disappointed. Our room was the Thomas Gainsborough Room on the ground floor which has a huge bed, big bathroom and a walk in shower with a fixed shower head which when you are small is not so good. It would have been lovely if there had been a bath, there is... More

Old hostelry which is now mainly a restaurant with adjoining coach house converted in recent years to create 5 bedrooms. We had the Stuart Courtauld room on the first floor overlooking open Essex countryside, all nicely decorated and furnished in character with the property with a very modern en suite with walk in shower. Dinner on both evenings was enjoyable... More

My wife and I have stayed at The Pheasant three times and each time it has been top notch. I would highly recommend The Pheasant to those who want to stay in a lovely room, have fabulous food and enjoy a warm welcome. The pork belly is the best I have eaten anywhere and the food in general is fantastic.... More

We booked through secret escapes and, like others were looking forward to a 'boutique hotel' experience. We were greeted with a warm welcome and a drink, all very lovely and promising. It was an anniversary celebration so we booked the 'suite'. Quite disappointing indeed. The bathroom needs redoing- a bath would be nice! Some nice touches in the room however... More

I found this gem of a venue on the internet. From intial enquiry through to check out Dianna and the team offered nothing but top star service. I wanted to find a venue to celebrate my 40th that offered locally sourced fresh food, a nice surrounding and possibility to stay overnight. The rooms were beautiful - we occupied 4 of... More

We visited for our anniversary weekend and were not disappointed. Immediately on arrival, we were welcomed with our prosecco and cream tea and shown to our room - the Constable. The room was very nicely done with an extremely comfortable four poster bed. There was also a large shower but the water was stubborn to drain meaning showers had to... More

We have just returned from a 2 night dinner, bed & breakfast stay at The Pheasant. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff are all lovely and friendly. Accommodation is in a purpose-built house behind the pub. We stayed in the Samuel Courtauld room, on the first floor with beautiful views over the cornfields. The room was tastefully decorated and... My wife booked for our wedding anniversary as a surprise and yes it was a surprise to say the least. We are a young couple who work hard and make sure that when we go away we make it special and look at reviews for guidance. A very warm welcome by staff member called Julie and glass of prosecco and... More

I am very shocked to read this review that you have posted after leaving our property after you saying “ that it was a lovely place and we were lovely people and don’t take it personally that we don’t want to stay in your rooms, it is just that I work in accident and emergency and I cannot cope with... After reading so many excellent reviews, and noting the awards that this place has received, we were really looking forward to a great night away with good food in luxurious surroundings. We arrived and were warmly greeted by the lovely Julia, who showed us to our room in the Coach House guest accommodation, which was set back from the pub.... More

Dear David and Clare Minter I am so sad to read your review on trip adviser and can only apologise for this unfortunate experience. The night before you arrived, we had a power cut and unfortunately this caused our pump in our klargester to stop working, and once the power came back on, it took a few days to settle... More
