We had a lovely stay, our room was spacious with a great mountain view, all the staff were friendly & helpful from the concierge down to the cleaners, nothing was a bother. The breakfast was good everything very fresh & a good variation of food. Unfortunately we didn't get to try the restaurant as it was booked out but we did have High Tea although I was slightly disappointed as the sandwiches were dry & very ordinary but sitting near the fire was lovely. The food selection at the Bar wasn't too bad but I would have loved to see a Steak Sandwich on the menu. This is a great place to stay & you really don't need to even leave as there is plenty to do.
Just had a nice 2 night stay. Was better than expected as I had read a lot of really bad reviews. Had a nice quiet room at the very end of the resort which was a blessing as there are noisy kids everywhere at this resort. Not really a romantic getaway so be warned. Kids throwing balls in reception, running all over the place in restaurants. No adult zones at all. Despite that our room was large and quiet, the buffet breakfast was lovely but best to get there early before the hoards arrive and the restaurant resembles a playground. Embers restaurant is ok but overpriced. We ordered a 200g steak for $45 that was lucky to be 100g. Chips were $12 extra. The grounds are amazing and outdoors is quiet and serene so there are plenty of positives but at $300 a night for a room we thought it would cater more to couples.…
Hmmm not a particularly great experience. I booked 3 rooms, asked for them to be close to each other and it asked online when you would like the rooms (arriving time). None of which was met. Was told that the terms state rooms are contractually ready by 3pm. Which is ironic because we didn’t get them by 3pm and they weren't together. I think that $350 per night is expensive for what you get. The whole resort is tired. The fridge didn’t work in the room. The lack of an exhaust fan in the bathroom, meant the whole place was full of steam. The temp control on the wall is locked at 20 degrees. All our party said they were boiling and turned the AC off and opened the windows. We made a good choice regarding breakfast; having had a peak at the breakfast buffet priced at $34 per person. It was pretty ordinary, and the room felt like school dinners. We went into Leura to the Red Door cafe, which was excellent. And no one spent $34 on our fresh-made breaky. The whiskey bar didn't open in the 3 days we were there. They advertised an ice rink on the TV in every room, but it is still under construction. The facilities are all a bit poor. I think a Airbnb house share in Leura would have been the better option for us. It is a pretty embarrassing indictment of our Australian Tourist industry really.…
We have stayed at the Hotel many times and have never been disappointed, our room was ready on arrival, well maintained and very clean, staff were very pleasant and always ready to assist if need be. We had dinner in the restaurant Embers, service excellent and food was very good, prices are reasonable and a good range on the menu and drinks.
A very disappointing stay for what claims to be a five-star hotel. I spend roughly 60 nights a year in hotels, mostly Accor, and I’d rate Fairmont Blue Mountains below Accor’s mid-tier properties - Novotel and Mercure. On check in I was advised that a car space had been reserved for me because of my Accor status and that the concierge would assist. However, the concierge was nowhere to be found, nor was the reserved car space. I'm happy to park my own car, but having this offered, then not able to be delivered is worse than not offering it to begin with. On the table in my room was a welcome note acknowledging my Accor status, a bottle of house red wine and a cheese plate. However, as I checked in after 6pm the cheese was not cold and the brie had sagged, so I assume it had been out of a fridge for some time. I wasn’t prepared to risk it, so the cheese plate went to waste. A pleasant surprise turns to disappointment. The room itself was basic with a small work desk and single sitting chair. The carpet was stained and frayed at the edges. The bathroom had a shower head with a leak that sprayed water all over the bathroom. The amenities, soap etc were good. Sadly, housekeep was also a disappointment. Tea/coffee was not replenished and wet towels were left on the bathroom floor. I'm happy to hang and reuse towels for a two-night stay, but these were saturated due to the leaky shower head and should have been removed. Additionally, the cheese plate and napkins were moved from the room to the hall outside (not by me). I can only assume the housekeeping staff considered this a job for room service staff. Just to be clear, this doesn’t bother me at all. You walk past food trays in hotel hallways all the time. But it illustrates that five-star service is not provided, despite the five-star price paid by guests. The next morning, I arrived at breakfast and was told this would be charged to my room. Knowing breakfast was included, I ask why I would be charged? The staff member was adamant that breakfast was not included for guests with my status. I asked when this change happened and was told “it’s never been included”. This particular staff member seemed very argumentative. Rather than make a scene I went to reception where staff confirmed breakfast was included. A reception staff member accompanied me back to the restaurant and I was seated for breakfast. The breakfast supervisor quickly appeared and was apologetic. She explained the staff member was still in training. While I understand staff need to be trained, and I’m totally fine with that, a staff member arguing with a guest at a five-star hotel is unacceptable. Especially when the staff member is wrong! Breakfast was a standard hotel buffet with the usual hot and cold options of a mid-tier hotel. As a comparison, recent stays at Novotel Sunshine Coast and Novotel Sydney had similar buffets but also offered additions like Eggs Benedict and/or omelettes on request. Now I’m always happy to give credit where it’s due and Chris, who appeared to be supervising breakfast on our second morning, was excellent. He was cheery, helpful and offered good advice on walking options in the local area. Additionally, the barista coffee both days was excellent. The hotel has several restaurants, but only one was open during our stay. We ate in the hotel bar the first night. It was noisy due to a group of around 50 people (seemed to be a conference group). Food was as you'd expect in a bar and was served in good time considering how busy it was. On our second night the restaurant, Embers, was fully booked. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise as we ate in Katoomba (see separate review for Avalon which was excellent). I took advantage of my Accor status to request a late check out. This was our only glimpse of five-star service with the request granted. And it was much appreciated given our evening flight. Like many places in the hospitality sector, Fairmont Blue Mountains seems to be trying to get back up to speed after Covid. But domestic tourism has been open for more than 6 months now and this hotel still has a long way to go. With rooms comparable to those in the Novotel/Mercure range, and with such poor service there is no way to justify paying double the price of mid-tier Accor hotels.…
My family (two girls, ages 10 and 7) was sick with “a” virus up until Easter. We were itching to get out before school started, and so glad Fairmont had their pet room available the ANZAC Day long weekend. I was a bit apprehensive after reading several recent negative reviews, but we had a great experience. 1. Check-in and check-out was a breeze. Reception and Concierge were helpful. My husband gave his Stay voucher detail late, and they reversed a charge with no issues. 2. The pet room was well-appointed and well-presented. Our dog had an indoor and outdoor bed, and bowl. The location was strategic as the courtyard opened to the garden walk so he could relieve himself without passing thru the lifts. 3. While it’s true that restaurants are full, we had a good dinner at the lobby cafe. Breakfast was packed but well-stocked food and staff. 4. We were only able to swim and walk around. Excited to come back and try the other amenities (arcade and cinema). My 7 year old wants to celebrate her birthday here!…
From check in we had issues. We were told our room was ready but needed to be checked and they would call when it was ready, they didn't, so after 2 hours we went to check if it was ready which it was. The rooms are really old and in desperate need of a reno. The bathroom has no fan that worked and the shower is dismal. We had a king bed when we had asked for 2 singles, the man front office was clearly thought I was lying and told me it wasn't in the requests, I offered to show him the email which clearly states the request but he declined. The fridge was covered in strawberry milk which smelled and there was a half full UHT milk in the fridge from a previous guest. Dinner at the Italian was ok, food was tasty but the squid ink pasta had no squid even though it says it on the menu and one of the 2 mussels was closed which means the muscle shouldn't be eaten, I told the waitress, she said the head chef had plated it which is disappointing in itself. We had lunch at the golf club and they got my order wrong as the chef had read the docket incorrectly, so that had to be remade. We left our swimmers at the hotel, I called as soon as we were home to ask if they were found she took my number and was going to find out, she never called back. By Wednesday I called to follow up and kept getting put through to a central reservations after waiting on hold, this happened twice and the girl kept telling me to call the number I had already called and to not press 1 for reservation, which I never did. I ended up pressing 2 and got through to events who I asked to put me through to housekeeping. On a positive note the girl Madi who cleaned the fridge and separated our bed was amazing and turned a bad start into a positive one, she is an asset to the team and should be rewarded for who positive attitude and high work ethic. The massage at the day spa was excellent and the lady, Faith, who did it was amazing. For what is supposed to be a luxury hotel, and at over $900 for 2 nights I really expected so much more and was really disappointed. I won't be back.…
Very disappointed on check in asked for early check in as my wife has a disability and needed to rest but had to wait 3 hours then forgot my membership bonuses and weren’t very helpful at all , I am always very happy and never complain but didn’t enjoy our experience
We stayed in the Pet friendly room and have to say it was really disappointing. Whilst I expect some compromises for a pet friendly room, the room had a mould smell to the point where I went and bought a candle and room spray, no extra blankets and the dog bed outside was covered in bird poop, and the water bowls were filthy. The room is right near the elevator so gets a lot of passing noise traffic, and was school holidays so extra noisy. Definitely not a 4 star room, let alone the 5 stars it claims. The facilities are extensive, although the indoor pool is very cloudy. The only outstanding feature was the Day Spa, and the staff are also super helpful. Not worth the $$
The TV and air con didn't work. The dinner delivered to our room was cold. The "heated" indoor swimming pool was freezing and the spa wasn't much warming. The pool water was cloudy and my son picked up an ear infection from it. Breakfast was stale banana bread and waffles than crunched because they hadn't been properly mixed. The shower was a dribble. The mattress sagged in the middle. Nice grounds. 15 minute queues to check out. We won't be going back.
