I have stayed in many hostels over my travels and I have never stayed anywhere as bad as the Coogee Beach House!!! First of all we were greeted and shown around by a girl who clearly couldn't care less about her job! Our room (if you could call it that, more like a prison cell), was tiny and dirty! The...

Stayed here for 4 months from June 2014, absolutely spotlessly clean with fantastic friendly staff. Had my own duvet as had come from an apartment and they even used to wash it for me. Really can't recommend this hostel enough, made so many friends and never had any issues.

Pros - the location in Coogee is great, literally steps from the beach, although it does take about an hour on the bus from Sydney but if you want to stay in Coogee this hostel is in a good location. Cons - it's very noisey at night, both from people coming and going (a given in a hostel but this...

Me and some mates went drinking and having a bbq in Coogee, with some ladies living at this hostel. So, only on of us was supposed to stay at the hostel but when it got to later to get back to Sydney we got offered to sleep there as well. Well, we got to crash on the couches in the...

My wife and I (early 30s) stayed at the Coogee Beach House in November 2014 for two nights. We found it to be loud and unclean. The staff was not friendly or helpful. The one upside is that the accommodation is located very close to the beach. If we return to Coogee again, we will be staying elsewhere.

Great price and easygoing vibe at the hostel. It's also easy to find parking in the side streets nearby, which is a plus if you've got a car/campervan. Coogee beach is just around the corner and there are some great walks along the coastline from there. There is also a bus terminal just a block away with frequent bus services...

We stayed here with our child because it was convenient for sporting activities near the Sydney Cricket Ground and the price was $110 per night as we gave card details in advance. Definitely more a not-so modern hostel than a B&B. Lot of young back-packers, making you feel like you were in a College dorm. There were plenty of reasonably...

Dirty, noisy and un-welcoming. We stayed here only one night as we really couldn't face staying at this Hostel any longer than that even though we had already paid up front for two wks! The hostel has a no refunds policy so we did not receive any refund on this. Not at all what we expected.

Coogee Beach House is all you need in a budget hostel. Having never really done the hostel thing and being in my late 20's, I was a bit dubious about booking a hostel with images of 18 years olds partying until dawn, commandeering the kitchen and basically being a rendition of my University days, but I was pleasantly surprised with...

Staying in Coogee

Neighborhood Profile
Coogee
Very accessible by public transport, Coogee is the smaller, friendlier, more intimate version of Bondi Beach. Coogee is the only beach in the Eastern suburbs that does not have big waves, making it an excellent family beach. The Coogee Bay Hotel, located right across the beach, has one of the biggest beer gardens in Australia and plenty of entertainment every night of the week. Be on the lookout for celebrity footballers! A little further south is Wylie’s Baths, offering sweeping 180 degree views over the Pacific Ocean, and it is perfect for a swim or a few laps. Plenty of dining choices surround the beach, including the famous fish and chips.
