We made plans to be in Carcassonne for one night--to see the famous Bastille Day fireworks. All we wanted was a place with some proximity to the city and a price that wasn't gouged because of the festivities. We booked only a few months in advance(very few rooms in town were left by then and were generally upwards of 33 euros per night) and were fortunate to get the last of their 4 rooms.La Capitelle far surpassed what we needed-comfortable, modern, more than convenient enough for the fireworks, and the owner, Philippe, was engaging, accomodating and provided a delightful breakfast as well.(His English was better than our mangled French, but fluency in French is helpful here).Although you are staying, essentially, in someone else's house, (like a B and B but without the sense you're in someone's home)you have no sense for where the owner's family resides-nor really any sense that anyone else is staying/living there til you meet them(if at all) at breakfast.Architecturally and... Not typically french perhaps - don't expect a farmhouse or auberge but a stunning modern building with excellent amenities set in it's own private grounds. It will help if you are a french speaker to get the most from your host - but I'm not good and we got by.

A little tricky to find and it's out in the sticks but my word isn't Carcassonne incredible.

I would recommend - good pool plenty of space delightful terrace -

Thank David H
