The resort is very big, lots of buildings, a large swimming pool and has a nice beach with clear water. The property is very clean and staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The resort is family friendly but there were way too many families with toddlers and little children. The rooms are fairly large but everything is dated, including furniture, mattresses, lumpy pillows and grey towels. Room cleaning also leaves much to be desired. The food in some restaurants and especially at the buffet is VERY salty and they don't change the menu. They blust loud music throughout the day and even in the evening, the music stops only at MIDNIGHT.

Hotel's Favorite
It's a beautiful resort. I highly recommend this place to anyone, from young to old. The ocean is calm and shallow, perfect for a toddler. Lots of lounges, however people reserve them early and sometimes show up by noon. We never had a problem finding an empty lounge though. Beautiful flora and fauna. It's not a huge resort, everything is in relatively short distance. I was however attacked by sand flies sitting on the sand one day and had many bites. My partner suffered from mosquitos. Definitely need a bug repellent and after bite cream. Food is plentiful. I liked beach restaurant since it wasn't busy or nosy, but very calm and relaxing, and a vegetarian paradise. I only wish they had an ice cream there. Italian restaurant was great, the rest didn't have much vegetarian options so we didn't bother to try them. Night snack is at the buffet starts at 11 pm until 7 am I believe. A sports bar is a great addition, it has a coffee machine with hot chocolate and moccachino. I want to add-if they specify whether soups are meat or no meat based, it would be very helpful. All staff is friendly and helpful no matter what language you speak. Buffets service is super slow though, whether the buffet is full or empty. It's true, you often have to get water, napkins, utensils yourself. We were in villa 16, very close to lobby and buffet. With numbers increasing, it's further from the lobby, such as 26- 27 are the furthest, not convenient if you have small kids. But it's closer to aquapark. The room was fine, everything in working condition, AC at optimal temperature. Aquapark is great, however the slides have top layer came off and sticking out, not sure if it's safe. Probably they wouldn't pass the safety control in Canada. It can scratch the skin, hopefully there is no rust there. We had an intermittent internet in the room, enough to receive emails, not enough for a video call. The weekend was very busy because of locals. We generally were satisfied with kids club but we weren't able to participate in activities because there was no room at the kids table, and all in Spanish. Mini disco is way too loud for small kids. Entertainment during the day was very good. Shops on the resort are very good although pricey. We got a birthday cake and it well worth it. I have stayed at another Bahia in Punta Cana, and this resort is way better. I'm looking forward to return.

Where do I start! We just returned from El Portillo, have to say the worst two weeks of my life,after the second day we wanted to leave. The room washroom smelled sour the whole time we were there our bed sheets were never changed , hardly any hot shower water,food repetitive and no decent drinks,every drink is at an upgraded price! Staff unfriendly!

What potential! The beach is amazing and the main pool area is great. Rooms are good and all close to main area and beach. Just need to get more help and add a bar! Only one bar open at night and it gets slammed! All workers are working hard but cannot keep up. Add a lobby bar ASAP! Also add help in the main buffet. Staff has to do it all from setting to serving to cleaning tables. To many tables and to busy. Service was lacking at times. Not the servers fault! More attention to service and a solid 9/10!

Food was amazing, beaches are breathtaking. Enough lounge chairs for everyone. Staff was incredible. I stayed in a room that was not yet renovated and the bathroom really needs to be redone ; we were offered a room on the third floor but declined because of health issues. We were only there for a week not nearly long enough. Beds were comfortable. Patio was private. And we were lucky enough to have spectacular weather every single day .

We just returned from the El Portillo resort, where 12 days11 nights. This is our 4th visit to this place, and it made us disappointed. We are the Privilage club members. You just wave out a lot of nice thinks which were before. like bathrobe and slippers, the little liker bottles and all stuff in the fridge, the little chocolate at the bed before go to slip. This is very important things, its small, but you feel so nice that enjoyed grate Privilage service. Even cocktail straws in the bars wasn't. What happened now? You did not cut the membership fee, didn't you? So what the Privilage to be Privilege club member? Ala Carte, but regular guests get it too. The special beach locations with some not so perfect service? The beach location for the Privilage members was, larger before, and they had a special bar. You cut this too. What left 20% off for tours (we visited most of them, and 20% off in the hotel shop? This is formal stuff, but the stuff what can a member feel and enjoy, because he/she is a member- you waved out. As I say we liked this resort, the beach, the restaurant (which now is much smaller, but guests are much more which makes lines to go to buffet. you have to sit some where the girl point you. Otherwise wait long time. The buffet is packed all the time. Before there was a nice bar where the nice saksofon player had a perfect show, was so nice atmosphere some little shows beside...was great.. So just to let you know it became not so nice as was before, from our point of view. Best regards.

The worst customer services I ever had in all inclusive hotel. Getting a drink at the buffet is like waiting the bus tat never come. Getting a drink during the evening after s like waiting the en of the world. Not enough staff during the day shift end during the evening shift. Do not care about giving tips but you wait long until you get what you want. First time and last time.

This hotel has the worst service we ever had and we travel 2 times a year since 2008. At the buffet, we have to go get our water by yourself because nobody comes to ask you if you want something. At the bar : if you want to drink only 5 drinks in your entire day, maybe you will be fine. It takes forever to get a drink at the pool and beach bar and the Republicain always always get their drinks before you even if you were there 15 mins before. There’s always always something missing for the drinks: no champagne, no clamato for bloody cesar, no limonade for margaritas, no tonic for gin tonic… so you always ended with beer. I didn’t pay this price to drink only beer. It’s very very frustrating after 7 days like this. We are here for another 4 days and since the locals come in today, not sure the last days will be better. The service at à la carte restaurant is not better. The beach and water are beautiful. Rooms are ok. The buffet is always always the same, even if they say that the theme is italian or spanish. Always the same thing every night. So if you don’t drink, I guess everything will be ok for you 😊 We will never come back because of the poor services. The Bahia Principe hotels are not the 5 stars they used to be anymore. It’s not worth the price we pay. Disapointed.

If you want to shower with hot water, don’t come here. The restaurants are crap. Service is horrible. They don’t change your bed sheets. The rooms are in disrepair. The mattress was hard as a rock. I’m leaving tomorrow and rest assured will never set foot in this place again.

In its entirety, the hotel is ok. I write this review while still a guest at the hotel, villa 26. Never truer words written; the difference is in the small details. At a high level; Day 1: The check-in experience was an absolute circus. Took well over an hour standing in line with 40 other people, sweat dripping off our bodies - (worth noting that we had already checked in online - we only needed cards to our assigned room) Our room wasn't made when we arrived, so back to front desk to sort it out. Thankfully, this time Victor who is efficient and charismatic, broad smile and cheerful (bless him) took care of finding a different room, which looked to be better than the first. So thank you Victor!! In the confusion, frustration and back-and- forth of the check-in process, I set my sunglasses down and ultimately they were stolen which set the tone for our first day - however this is completely my fault. The other person who deserves a shout out is Jose from the Limon Buffet Restaurant. We met Jose today for the first time as he had been off since our arrival. I observed Jose work the room and interact with his colleagues, he is well liked and obviously well respected. He saw to the needs and wants of guests with sharp observation, has a friendly and warm approach and has made a massive difference in the level of service compared to our days 1 through 3. Jose deserves a raise and/ or a promotion! Honestly, all the staff at the hotel are very polite and very friendly. Come for the beach, you won't be sorry. I will conclude my review at the end of our stay, but really wanted to give credit to these two super team members at the El Portillo.
