What a treat to spend a night here on the Camino Português! This lovingly restored manor house sits in the hills above Ponte de Lima. Surrounded by acres of vineyards, orchards, and gardens, it offers a commanding view of the Lima Valley. The friendly Count warmly welcomed our group and gave us a tour of the Calheiros family home. Meals are enjoyed with other guests in the large dining room (there was a group from France the night of our stay). This is not your typical hotel, so be prepared for a unique experience and perhaps a few quirks (wi-fi works best near the office). I am not complaining! Enjoying a glass of Vinho Verde, I was thrilled to be in such a delightful place.

A magnificent country estate enclosed by an ancient wall . It exudes history and tranquility. Many fountains in the gardens with relaxing places to st and relax . A very pleasant swimming pool on the top terrace overlooking the valley. Rooms are full of antique furniture . The count is a wonderful and caring host and makes you feel like a valued visitor to his home .

Room Tip: The little bar opposite the church ( BoaVista) is very pleasant with a small shop

This property has an eternal history.
The castle was built at the end of the 12th century. It was built in the 17th century and has been in family ownership ever since.
Surrounded by large vineyards, it is perched above the village.
As the season was coming to an end, we were the only guests. The service was very good. Breakfast rich and we had a visit from the count personally who also guided us through the premises.
The big German Shepherd Leon takes care of everything:-)

I had the opportunity to spend a few days at Paço de Calheiros in Ponte de Lima and, unfortunately, the experience was not the most satisfying. Although the site has a lot of potential, it seems to need some improvements. I noticed that the facilities are somewhat outdated, with some details requiring maintenance, such as sockets that were partially loose from the walls.
In addition, the rooms do not have a fridge bar or TV, and the wi-fi had difficulty operating during my stay. Another issue was the absence of extra services: there is no place where you can buy a drink or a snack, which ends up being inconvenient, especially when there is no place to store something fresh, such as water, for example.
The breakfast is simple but enough, and the sympathy of the staff is undoubtedly a positive point. The natural surroundings of the place are very pleasant and provide moments of tranquility.
With some updates and a greater attention to the details, I believe that Paço de Calheiros can offer a more complete and satisfying experience.

Susanna welcomed us
She was very kind
Entering the dwelling is like entering another century where time has stopped.
Then we tasted the Green Wine which turned out to be welcoming on the palate and not too salty like others in the area
We toured the estate ourselves and were fascinated
The cellar we imagined was larger but sufficient to accommodate the result of 5 hectares of vineyards
Thanks also to the Count who although not present gave us the opportunity to do this
Lovely experience

In mid-September the spectacular gardens were full of fruit and flowers... this property is beautiful. Rooms were charming, interesting and old fashioned (in the main house) or charming enough and a bit bland (the new wing in the former stables) but all were spotless and comfortable and the gardens and terraces are exceptional. Breakfast was great. I highly recommend it.

I recently had the opportunity to spend a delightful evening in this 16th/17th century manor house, which was renovated in 1986. This house has been in the family since the 1300s, and since the family lives in the manor, one gets a very comfortable quiet relaxed homely feeling. the highlight of the visit was a tour by the owner's son, Francisco. He took the time to give us a 2 hour walk around the 50 acre estate. We only had breakfast, but the orange juice, straight from the orchard, was the best we had on or 4 week trip of spain/portugal. We finished off a whole pitcher, much to the dismay of the very friendly staff. The manor is located outside of Ponte De Lima, but make sure you get explicit driving instructions. The manor was not easy to find due to the fact that there is no obvious sign. Without a doubt, this was the best accomodation we had on our 1 month trip.

We spent three nights at Paco de Calheiros. The old house is beautiful from the outside and has gorgeous views but our guest accommodation was situated in the former stable block and was depressing and decrepit. It had no windows, so was dark and stuffy, and the conversion must date from the 1970s and is really ugly. The bath and basin taps were so old that they dripped constantly and it was diffcult to regulate the water temperature. The bath/shower didn't drain properly and there was mould around the bath. The swimming pool was small and the cushions for the sun loungers were old, faded and insufficient. No towels were provided for the pool. There is no wifi.
Breakfast was more or less inedible, with all products being the cheapest supermarket goods available - this In a region where fresh food is inexpensive, of excellent quality and easily available, No food or drink was available on site at any other time (not even water) and we had to take the car for several kilomètres to find meals (which were not very good).
The worst feature of this place was, however, the attitude of the owner. His superficial courtesy only served to draw attention to the deeply discourteous treatment afforded to his customers. The owner should be ashamed.

I had to give it an average because there were exceptional qualities and some not so good. The I was recently on a walking trip to Portugal and we stayed here for two nights. Count Calheiros was wonderful, charming and attentive! The grounds themselves were lovely, with beautiful views of Ponte de Lima. The Count is working hard to make this a wonderful destination. The downside is the beds were hard as rocks with very old bedding. Our blankets look like they hadn't been washed in a year. The other down side was the food. Very boring and not so good. The only exceptional dish was a fabulous chocolate mousse. The best we had in all of Portugal. The wine can't compare to the wonderful wines of the Douro Valley. On the other hand we had locals come and play music and it was a lovely evening dancing with them. Also we had lovely aperitifs with the count and he was so gracious to let us see his wonderful home. So an excellent for the location and the Count and poor for the food and the beds.

I read some of the reviews, and must say that my experience was fantastic. I slept in a super comfortable bed, with fresh and clean linens, in a gorgeous room. Breakfast had fresh bread, homemade iogurt and jam, local milk and eggs. I found the property to be spotless, with recent renovated areas. If I must find something to critique, is the absence of wifi. But in such a lovely place, can't say I really see it as an issue. On a side note, the Count is a lovely host, always ready to talk about the place history and help with any doubts. I not only recomend the place, but would really love to come back.
