I stayed at Bahia surf camp for 9 nights.
The camp is located on a beautiful stretch of beach in Busca Vida.
It accommodates about 15 guests which is just perfect and people of different age and background.
It has a lovely garden and neat snd charming rooms. The food is truly excellent, the kitchen offers local cuisine, three cooked meals a day and lots of fresh fruits, juice and salads.
The surf coaching is great too, they pay a lot of attention to you and your surfing technique and will help you make significant progress in your surfing!

We just spend 8 nights in the most wonderful surf camp. Espcially, we enjoyed the empty sandy and clean beach directly in front of the camp, as well as Yoga classes und Surf classes. The camp owner Beto welcomed us warmly in his camp. Although, we arrived during Corona crisis, we felt cmpletely safe there and could completely enjoy our stay.
Beto and his partner LaLa helped us a lot to improve our surf Skills. I can recomend this camp especially for intermediate surfers. We feel completely relaxed after our stay and got to know some cool and friendly travellers in all kinds of age. We felt like a big family. :)
Hope to come back soon to this wonderful place!

This was our second trip to Surf Camp and we knew the moment we stepped back on the property just why we had returned. Everyone is so welcoming, the atmosphere is unpretentious, the food was even better than before, and our whole family was able to take their surfing up a notch after six days of lessons. We felt spoiled at every turn. Rita in the kitchen turns out amazing food for every meal, and will spoil your kids rotten given the chance. Beto and Icaro are top notch surf instructors for all levels of surfers. They know how to give you just the information you need to improve without overwhelming you with too many things to think about. And they also don’t mind getting right out into the water with you, which made the lessons that much more wonderful for my two daughters. Being relatively new to surfing, this is only our second trip ever, their philosophy of teaching you skills that you can take with you anywhere worked perfectly for us. We now feel like we can go out in the ocean on our own and surf in new spots. We will still fall a lot, but now we know why we are falling and what to do on the next wave.

My experience was mixed. Firstly the good stuff: the place is beautiful, well maintained, clean, safe and secure. Right by the beach (so close you can hear the waves crashing), tasty and plentiful food (some veggie options too) and a very peaceful environment. Lots of chill out space, bikes to take out, a gym (though it's just weights from what I could see), and a little skate bowl. Lala, one of the main staff members, was friendly and approachable and made me feel welcome as a solo traveller at the camp.
Unfortunately, I had an accident on my first day of surfing which required a hospital visit and stitches. While the staff were quick to act and took me straight to hospital (where Icaro, one of the instructors, waited with me the whole time), the accident could have been avoided. I'm not completely blaming the surf school for the accident as I should have protected my head (one of the intermediate surfers crashed into me with his board) and accidents do happen. BUT - I was a complete beginner and I was taken on my first day into deep water where I had little control. My briefing was super quick and didn't cover any safety stuff. It was just straight into the water, in a space where both intermediate surfers and beginners were learning. I'm no expert but intermediate surfers should not be in the same space as beginners. The guy wasn't able to control his board, so the accident happened and I couldn't get out of the way in time. It was pretty traumatic. Because I had stitches, I had to stay out of the water for a few days which was a real disappointment as I couldn't surf (I was offered yoga classes as an alternative and a refund of my missed surf classes, which was great but not why I was there!). To be fair, by the time I went back in the water, I made it clear I wanted to take it realllllly slow and one of the instructors stuck with me the whole time, in the shallow water and it was a better experience. Lala also dropped me back at the hospital at the end of my stay, though he was so worried about being back late for surf class that he didn't take me in so I had to rely on trusty Google translate as I don't speak Portuguese. My advice would be if you're a beginner and you're a bit nervous, make sure you clearly communicate this (I didn't and in hindsight I wish I'd said I wasn't comfortable and I didn't feel safe). I'd also add that the guests were 90% German speaking for the whole week I was there - this might just be chance but the language of the camp was often German (surf lessons were in english, I just mean during meal times and downtime) so not ideal if you don't speak German!

Response from Bahia Surf Camp B, Owner at Bahia Surf Camp

Hi NIkki, Yes, was pretty sad that this unfortunate accident happened and believe this is not a usual thing. On your first day the waves were so small , basically flat in our beach, so we had to drive for a place that was at least, surfable in a small stretch on beach with only few people surfing. Beginners at the inside and intermediate at the outside Definitely you should have communicate better about your concern in being in the water, On the briefing you and Cristian were apparently ok and you even got few waves with help of the coaches. Thanks for letting clear that you should have said that you were not feeling comfortable. Yes you really should. Unfortunately we can’t read people’s mind all the time. The conditions were so small and 2 teachers assisting you and 2 other beginners that we didn`t imagine that you would literally let the board from Phillip hit your face without having a simple reaction to put a hand to stop the board. As we talked about, it was clear that he was going on your direction and he even jumped off from his board before hit you. A simple hand would be enough to avoid that, as there was no more speed on his board. We are pretty sorry about that, but sometimes even with so many recommendation and assistance these things can happen on our sport. About your last day, was clear that if you need a translation help at the hospital we could drive you later because we were busy, but you decided to have a early drop off, so please don’t blame us that you had to use a simple google translator. Our team wish a good recovery All the best Beto

I had the most amazing 2 weeks at Bahia Surf Camp. In fact, I came for one week but had to extend for one more - this is how great this place is.
I am so grateful to all the people working there: they are very friendly and they put their souls in what they do. Rita, Michelle and everyone in the kitchen cook the most delicious healthy meals; Jeff, Natal, and others are taking extremely good care of the property; and Beto the owner makes all of this possible.
But most of all I am thankful to Mauricio for being the best surf teacher I've ever met. I came there without an intention to surf after being traumatized by my previous injury and bad experiences, but after I saw how they teach classes I gave it a try. They pay so much attention to details, having some of the lessons on the lake nearby to practice paddling, jumpstart, turtle - I've never been to such rigid classes before. Thanks to Mauricio's attention and kindness I started doing green waves after just a few classes, which I didn't believe would be ever possible again. This experience has changed me, both as a surfer and as a person.
Also a shoutout to Ludmila for providing thoughtful and restorative yoga sessions and Magno for the best massage ever.
On a side note, the camp has very high security and a beautiful private beach, where most of the time we were the only people. The territory is green and well taken care of, room had everything we needed and a terrace.
To top it off, the location has biodiversity including turtles, and seeing baby turtles hatching on the beach was one of the highlights.
I absolutely loved this place and I hope I will be back soon <3

This surf camp is all time. Incredibly well run, steps from a beautiful empty beach, very nice property with areas to relax when not surfing, a gym, pool to cool off, fast internet, comfy beds, warm water, and the food was absolutely delicious and lots of it so you are never hungry. This is also the first time I have seen surf instructors really help, they are very knowledgeable and identify exactly what each person needs to improve. I was really impressed with everything and can’t wait to go back! Definitely a paradise to improve your surfing and enjoy your time while hanging out with great people. And maybe a few monkeys too.

We had a wonderful week at Bahia Surf Camp! The place has a special charm, an invigorating energy! While my son took surf lessons, my husband and I enjoyed the paradise beach. The instructors (Mauricio and Fernando) were great. They do everything to make us learn the right technique! If the tide is not good, no problem, they took us to another beach!
The surf camp is fantastic, located on a private beach and has everything you need: enough chill areas with hammocks, a bar, a pool, a gym, a skateboard track, a game zone (table tennis, table football and billiards). If you want, there are also yoga classes, which make the day perfect
Meals are a separate chapter. They are served in a half-open area, which provides contact with other guests, and thus facilitates great conversations at the end of the day! The food is very healthy and delicious! Dona Rita strives to meet the wishes of each guest with great care and attention to detail! In short, a wonderful place, a wonderful stay, with a staff that does everything to make us feel at home! We will be back for sure!

We had an unforgettable stay at Bahia Surf Camp! The camp is located on a reserve so it’s incredibly peaceful and the beach in stunning (perhaps the most beautiful we’ve ever seen). The beach was also often nearly empty which was glorious (especially compared to Barra further up the coast which was heaving) and there’s a lovely short path from the camp to the beach. The camp is also located about 30 mins from Salvador airport so very easy to get to via cab.
The rooms are lovely, cleaned everyday, good aircon and each has a hammock outside. The food is delicious - Rita the cook is amazing and made so many yummy local dishes whilst we were there. Breakfast is always huge (lots of fruit / drinks / local options to choose from). It was my birthday whilst we were there and Rita made the most delicious chocolate cake to celebrate - so kind!
There were all ages/ dynamics at the camp (sole travellers / a father & daughter/ us with our 9 month old baby) and they were so accommodating to everyone. Yoga was fab and surfing lots of fun!
This experience is not to be missed - we spent 4 weeks travelling around Brazil and this was our highlight!

Everything, the whole camp is designed to have everything a surfer could ask, from skate bowl, to surf boards, gym, pool, and the best, a great surf break at less than one minute away walking.
I only stayed one week, but I wish I would have stayed longer.
Definitely recommended, definitely coming back

I chose this place for a week of surfing and relaxing during my trip to Brazil and I enjoyed my time here so much, that I decided to come back for another week at the end of my vacation.
It was very easy to meet people as the majority of the guests were also travelling alone. It was an amazing mix of people that quickly became one big fun group. With all the different activities available it never got boring. There is an outdoor play room with table tennis, darts and a pool table, there is a slackline, a gym, a skate bowl as well as surf-skateboards to use on the street in front of the camp, there also is a SUP that guests can use on the lake in front of the camp area, there a bicycles and card games. And of course, the beach is only a couple steps away. Sometimes the group went on a day trip to Salvador together.
The staff is just great, they make the place feel like home. Mauricio was always around and available when I needed something or had a question. Jeff and Mauricio will get you coconuts, an açai bowl or Caipirinhas. The rooms were clean and comfortable. I slept in a private room as well as in a dorm and can recommend both. Within the camp it is easy to enjoy privacy/solitude, if wanted. Because it is an open space it was easy to come into contact with the other guests which i liked a lot. There are three meals a day, which are all very healthy and nutritious. The kitchen staff is amazing and they take into account all different food restrictions, the vegetarian food was great! I was lucky enough to see baby turtles hatching on the beach. Other than that there are monkeys running around the camp which we got to see several times. Very cute.
I'd highly recommend to book Yoga classes in combination with surfing. Ludmila offered restorative classes that were perfect to calm the body and mind. The surf classes with the instructors Mauricio and Vander helped me to improve my surfing immensely and communication in english worked really well. Classes would take place just 50m from the camp, which is located on a private beach with very few people. There were also very few other surfers in the water which was making it very easy to get a lot of practice. Mauricio and Vander always gave individual feedback and guidance, and also made sure everyone was having fun. They showed a lot of patience and didn't get tired of explaining things multiple times, being really invested in the surfers' progress. In addition to the classes on the beach, the intermediate surfers also got to do lake training on the other side of the camp in order to practice moving fast and efficient in the water. We also did a surf skate lesson with Mauricio. Beto, the camps owner, would take pictures and videos that helped me a lot to understand what I had to improve. The combination of all these different activities really helped my surfing.
I will definitely come back!
