I am sad to say that our 2 nights stay at Cicada Lodge were some of the most disappointing ever at any accommodation in Australia. The lodge advertises itself as a luxury stay with an award winning restaurant that we thought might justify the high price. We booked many months in advance looking to have a couple of relaxing days. The good 👍: -bed was very comfortable and the aircon was working.....and that was about it The bad 👎: -on arrival there were three staff members present but the man at the reception sent the frailest girl to show us to our room. We had to take our luggage ourselves. -the room was adequate ....for a four star hotel. Could have had a carpet on the floor but on first inspection acceptable. Then we discovered that the safe does not work, curtains were broken and off the rail and some power points were not working -no wifi. The lodge advertises free internet and free wifi when we had neither for the duration of out stay - dust and dead insects on the desk. It looked like nobody bothered to wipe the desk for a very long time....and did not happen during our stay either -The day before our arrival we were just bluntly informed that there will be no dinner as they close the restaurant. On check in were were reassured that we can eat at their “deck” restaurant. It turned out to be a cafe in the information centre that served us a pizza with still wet ,not baked dough and a vegetable buffet with over cooked cauliflower and broccoli as well as cold steamed zucchini 🤢. The second night we drove 60km round trip to Katherine to find some edible food. -the pool only has four chaise lounges and for the whole duration of our stay one was occupied by a wet towel. When we asked the staff about why that towel was there for three days we were answered with a joke🤷🏻 - my wife is lactose intolerant and we indicated that in answering a question on the booking form. We also confirmed it on check in. Despite all this my wife’s breakfast on the first day containing cheese, butter and yoghurt leaving only the fruit and a couple of slices of cheap sausage available. The cook got something up quickly when we mentioned it to staff....again. -after first day “cleaning” we found leaves in the bathroom and the wet wrapping of the soap that we put in the bin was in the middle of the bathroom. My wife’s reading glasses were on the floor about 2m from the night table where she left them and my CPAP mask was also on the floor. Some of the staff were nice but overall we got a feeling of “who cares?” At no stage in our stay, including at checkout nobody asked how we are or offered any compensation for the canceled “award winning “ dinner, no wifi etc. Overall a very disappointing stay that we will advise everyone to avoid. There are better ways of spending $1000

This is a tough review to do as there are so many good things about this place but there were also quite a few shortcomings. Pros: - comfortable lodging - amazing chef, so excellent breakfast and dinners - good selection of beverages - sunset canapes and drinks by the pool - lovely small pool - very friendly and attentive staff Cons: - small pool - we turned up on their opening day after having been shut for Covid and the wet season, so there were many teething problems - our room wasn't serviced after the 1st night - when it was serviced, products weren't replaced - dinner service was extremely slow (over 3 hours!) - canapes were served very late They did acknowledge the shortcomings and compensated us appropriately. The bottom line for us, I think, is that this is a very expensive place to stay at (we had 2 rooms over 4 nights) and we would think the attention to detail should be better. However, we appreciated the staff and the food was amazing, so we would still recommend this experience.

We dined here for a special occasion, a significant birthday. The whole experience was lovely, drinks to start in the garden and then shown to our table to have a starter followed by a main and desert, all accompanied by wines selected to suit the meal. Service was attentive without being over bearing and the whole experience made us fgeel very special.

Cicada Lodge at Nitmiluk Gorge, just outside of Katherine, was a delightful weekend getaway from Darwin. The staff were helpful, relaxed and friendly and created a wonderful environment. The rooms have a lovely bush view with a little verandah (fan over head) to enjoy the sounds of the cicadas in the outdoors. A lovely pool with large umbrellas and lounges on the edge to find reprieve from the sun. The food at the restaurant was delicious and catered to dietary requirements well. Matching wines with dinner was beautiful! The only downside I saw was the dinning room was far too cold with the aircon but the staff were flexible to us moving outside to eat by the pool instead. We enjoyed the boat cruise with the swim as well! Wet season deals ($) enabled us to stay in this lodge, so that was good.

We stayed here with friends just at the start of the wet season. The location is excellent with lots of interesting nature and bush on your door step. Watch out for the black cockatoos. The rooms are very comfortable and well appointed and the air con is very effective and much welcome!! We had dinner here on both nights where they offered a fixed menu of very delicious and local fare. The chef is very good and compares very well to meals in large city high end establishments. It was also nicely portioned and extremely tasty. They also offered a good wine selection and at fair prices. We really enjoyed our trip to Katherine and returning to this little piece of paradise at the end of a hot day. It’s a treat worth offering to yourself when you’re in this beautiful part of the world.
