Our stay was punctuated by amazing meals at The Duke. The nine hour lamb shoulder for two was fantastic on our first night - tender, juicy, luscious and lip-smacking! The next night, the pork was sooooo fabulous, and the Belgium chocolate dessert was a dream. Go back in a heart-beat. As far as the hotel itself was concerned, the staff... More

The Duke was the second d leg of our trip to the north island and only 3 day in. What a gorgeous hotel, great rooms, great staff and spectacular food! We were looked after by Alice for lunch and dinner and she anticipated our needs before we were even aware ourselves! We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and hope to... More

Had a fantastic experience at the Duke. We enjoyed a recent stay with friends. Room was recently renovated and very comfortable. Great views. The bar, guest lounge and restaurant were excellent and I cannot recommend more highly the standard and quality of the menu provided by the Duke's chefs. Dinner was an experience thoroughly enjoyed and the service provided by... More

We drove up to Russell this week in glorious weather and received the usual very warm welcome. Our room was closer to the beach this time and the view was spectacular, the bed was warm and best of all, the hotel dining room was every bit as good as it was a year ago when we visited. The menu has... More

Ferry ride over from Paihia, Russell is well worth a visit. Especially 'The Duke' of Marlborough Hotel. Historical Hotel, great winter fire keeping the cold out, very cosy restaurant. Menu and drinks well priced. Salt and Pepper calamari was beautifully cooked , a most enjoyable meal and hour or two overlooking Russell harbour and taking in the history of the... More

I have been to the Duke several times and wanted my kids to experience one of the better pubs in the world, we weren't dissapointed. Great old building, warm fire, happy staff with Awesome food and drinks. Beautiful outlook over the Bay of Islands with lots to explore in a small old fishing village on Russell Island. I would recommend... More

Such a beautiful spot in a picture perfect bay. Did not eat here but have been told food is great value. The view is just lovely. The staff here are super friendly and professional. Would definitely recommend.

A group of four - we spent an afternoon at The Duke enjoying what turned out to be a very long lunch. Great food starting with the generous platter which easily served four as a starter, great wine and friendly staff who were happy to help us enjoy a wonderful day.

Russell is a little gem in the beautiful Bay of Islands - a really cute little place to stay. The Duke of Marlborough is incredible - right on the beach and 30 seconds walk to the wharf for all the boat trips. Wherever you stay here you'll be near the beach but being directly on it is great, especially to... More

This is a beautiful old pub in a very quaint snd beautiful setting. I was there 12 months ago and had the slow roasted lamb dinner for 2. It was beautifully cooked and very tasty. Our desserts were equally yummy. I visited again last night and my husband had a lovely steak dinner. My risotto was bland and very unappetising.... More
