I stayed at the Duke for 2 nights in April. The character, history, location and charm of the hotel are 5 star. This was the most expensive hotel I stayed at during my 2 weeks in New Zealand and felt outside of the above it was not up to par in the basics that are important to me in a...

We visited Russell at the end of a Hole in the Rock boat tour with Fullers. Our motel manager had told us about this hotel and recommended it as a 'must visit'. We weren't disappointed with our Sunday lunch choice - New Zealand's oldest licensed venue. We were seated outside with a beautiful view. Staff were pleasant and attentive. I...

We booked a table for 3, but we bumped into 3 other friends who didn't have a booking, the staff happily accommodated all 6 of us, the food was superb the drink was equally fantastic, our waitress was excellent. Will most definitely go back to the Duke next time we are in Russell. 😃😃

We had really looked forward to this return visit as the menu was fantastic when we were last there in January. So I booked well in advance. I checked the website to ensure what we wanted was on the lunch menu. When we arrived we were seated inside right by the door so had a very cold breeze blowing over...

I can't say enough about Riki and his wonderful team at The Duke. Nothing was a problem and everyone enjoyed their stay so much I'm sure they will be back again soon. We had a group of Australians with us also and they loved the atmosphere of the hotel and the surrounding area. All of our outings, dining and boat...

This was our last hotel before moving onto Auckland for the flight back. We had high expectations but were so disappointed with the rooms and general upkeep of the hotel. Comparing it to The County in Napier, this was definitely second rate - our room was very small with the tiniest bathroom ever - one person was all it could...

We stayed In the duke for only one night, the building looks beautiful from the outside, an old stylish house. You have a private parking, although not covered (no roof). The hotel is not really big, only 25 rooms, all of them on the first floor. There is no elevator. the rooms are nice but nothing out of the ordinary....

Situated right on the waterfront it is lovely boutique hotel in amazing Russell. From the wooden staircase to our room with the cute coffee centre it was a fun experience. Clean if a bit old (to be expected) breakfast was a nice continental spread with amazing teas.

Clean and comfortable despite its age. The old woodwork is beautiful. The carpets are tired but necessary for noise reduction. Staff were kind and helpful. The restaurant was great for lunch or dinner. Breakfast was adequate. Free parking was nice. Shower a bit small but good enough. Pics are from the hotel view.
