Whether you like or dislike this place is basically a matter of taste. Some people love the quirky, quaint, “nooks, crannies” and “charm” of tattered B & B’s. I have even stayed in those types of places myself. But the Warwick House simply was not my cup of tea. After reading all the reviews, I understand their commitment to being environmentally friendly (mismatched, thin towels line dried) but the commitment to keeping it “cutesy” was lost on me. All the furniture, bed and window coverings just looked old, tired and dated. And not having an armoire or closet, just some hooks on the wall with mismatched hangers was not ideal. So, that being said, this place was not my or my husband’s taste. But it might be yours. However, my biggest complaint was not having the room properly made up in the morning. When I get up, be it in a hotel, Inn, B & B, I straighten the bed covers, (not completely make the bed) just because I don’t like to look at an unmade bed. So that is what I did before heading out our first morning in Nelson. When we returned we noticed the coffee had been replenished but could not tell that anything else had been done. The bed had clearly not been made. It was left just the way I left it. Very disappointing. We did not have breakfast in the ballroom but it looked like a lovely room from peeking in. We found it odd that the main house and ballroom was always locked. It may have been a nice place to sit and have afternoon coffee. It also did not help that the two days we were in Nelson it was gray and damp weather so you could not sit outside in the gardens. The young woman (nickname “Mars”) was friendly and helpful and she took responsibility for our room not being made up, saying she had not informed housekeeping there were guests in that room. But they did come in and see that the coffee was all gone. (?) I am not going to say I would not recommend this place. It is a matter of taste. But if you want more modern conveniences, plusher towels, crisper sheets, closet space, large TV, comfy couch, this place is not for you.…
We loved the nooks, crannies and angles of this 150++ year old property. Private room with quirks, big bed, good heating and a kitchenette. Close to town, nice garden and views. We will definitely choose this place again.
The ballroom was perfect for our sitdown dinner to celebrate a friend's birthday. The catering seemed effortless (from our perspective) with plenty of room to move around the room to socialise and dance to the fantastic band they had. I was treated to the Princess Room on the last night which was out of this world - I truly felt like a princess. Request it! If I was travelling alone I would have felt very comfortable with plenty of friendly staff to make sure I had everything i needed
Exactly what we needed. A break from the kids, close to town. Great views, beautiful rooms and grounds. Bed was huge and comfy in the suite at the top. We were well looked after. Breakfast topped it all off. Many thanks. We will be back.
Our time in this place was wonderful, whether the amazing building and everything that it contains or the area where is located, is a good place to stay for visiting Nelson or, like us, to stay for a couple of months. Owners were very helpful with us showing us what is available to do around. Highly recommended.
