I stayed at Almond House in Nelson for one night before and after a trip to the Abel Tasman National Park. It's quite a nice backpackers with a very laid back, relaxed feel. It's about a 10 minute walk to the centre of Nelson and it's also quite close to the river, which is nice for a walk. It's basically... More

Hello and thanks very much for your review - I appreciate the time you've taken to share your views. I'm sorry you found the bathroom situation inconvenient. We have 5 bathrooms at Almond House - two of them in the house (1 toilet and a separate shower upstairs, 1 toilet and a separate shower downstairs) as well as 2 separate... More

We are a mature couple and sometimes backpackers are not a great fit but I can't imagine Almond House not fitting anyone. Two great kitchens, well outfitted and a great comfortable room and the back garden! We lounged for two days in the Nelson sunshine in quiet happiness. When we decided to cut our original booking short to do the... More

Pros: - friendly staff and owners, very welcoming and helpful - lovely garden backyard - bright and cozy, good vibe - large double room - clean bathrooms - no TV (I liked that) - quiet area Cons: - my room was close to the kitchen area where everyone sat and drank beer and chatted at night. It's not a party... More

Hello and thank you very much for reviewing our hostel and I'm glad there were lots of "pros" to your visit. I only wish you had mentioned to me (owner) that you were having trouble sleeping and found the hostel noisy at night. I would have definitely spoken to our staff and asked them to be more considerate, and if... More

Lovely place, just a 10 minute walk from the centre, free wi-fi, good facilities and spotlessly clean. The owners are incredibly helpful and hospitable and the hostel tends to attract a more 'mature' type of person, which is perfect for people looking to have a quiet night's sleep away from the party hostels. Having stayed in a number of hostels... More

As I read the recent reviews on Trip Advisor I can confirm the positive reviews. The facility is very clean, beds are good, staff is friendly, free Wi-Fi, laundry/drying lines, and 2 kitchens. Kitchens are well equipped. They provide luggage storage. I did enjoy my 3 day stay but I must share a downside. We stayed in a double room... More

I stayed twice at Almond house during my stay in New Zealand and really enjoyed it. It is small, quiet, clean and has free unlimited wifi (rare in New Zealand). It is a bit of a phenomenon that even if it is fully booked you hardly spot other guests in the communal areas (maybe because of the two kitchens). Highly... More

I enjoyed my stay at this hostel. It was spotlessly clean. I managed to get a single bed in a corner room at the back in the accommodation block. The owners were very nice and helpful with really useful local information. I chose this based on previous reviews on Tripadvisor. I was glad I did. The garden area is very... More

I stayed 2 nights at Almond House in a single room which actually had 2 bunks. The bed was comfortable and although at the front of the house was quiet and peaceful. The communal areas were lovely, clean and well looked after with a nice garden. Free computer, phone calls and wifi without messing about with vouchers. Staff were friendly... More

My friend visiting from overseas and I stayed here for 1 night in a private room with 2 single beds, shared bathroom 2 doors away. We were both most pleased. The linens were the nicest we've seen in a hostel. The courtyard was a lovely place to enjoy breakfast and an evening meal. The kitchen met our needs. Check-in was... More
