Good friendly hostel with some off street parking. About a 10-15min walk from the centre of Nelson. Loads of info and posters of things to do, helpful and friendly staff and the hostel offers free chocolate pudding and ice cream - not bad and a good idea to get everyone together during "social hour" where you're asked not to use... We had what is obviously the ensuite accessible room around the back, which was very private. We could hear a bit of noise during the day from adjacent rooms but we slept well. There was a picnic table beside our room which would have been handy in warmer weather. Our room was comfortable, spacious bathroom. The room had a bit... More

Tasman Bay was a great hostel for a quick stop- very clean, warm atmosphere and great cooking facilities! The beds were really nice with a lot of room space for bags. Good bathrooms and showers. Free hot chocolate pudding which was a nice addition- would definitely recommend.

Fantastic little hostel. Warm and friendly atmosphere, multiple kitchens, spacious lounge area, and an edible garden. One of the better hostels I have stayed at during my NZ adventure. Great hostel if you are looking to meet people who are adventurous and fun.

This hostel was one of the best I've ever stayed at. Staff were very friendly and helpful, the whole place is well maintained and clean, easy parking if you have a car, and an easy, flat, safe ten minute stroll into Nelsons city centre. I was very happy here.

I stayed here for four nights and it was all right, the common areas were clean and the hostel offers free choc pudding every night while trying to bring in a new concept - no mobile phones allowed during pudding time to start conversations with other travelers and it worked out very well. The rooms were all right, but the... More

This is an excellent hostel, which I cannot recommend highly enough. We traveled as a couple and stayed in a private double room. We found the whole place to be spotlessly clean and the kitchen to be very well equipped - the only hostel I've ever stayed in with a garlic crusher and sharp knives! It is very clear that... More

Thank you so much for your detailed feedback. You are right - we do take care to replace things when they get damaged and to have things like sharp knives and a good selection of kitchen utensils. And i really liked that you found us relaxed and friendly for all ages and cultures because that is exactly what we aim... More

The Tasman Bay Backpack is close to the city center (3min walk). 1 night in an 3-4 p. dorm $30. The stuff is really nice, friendly and helpful. You need something the will help you to make it work. Also there is free wifi and chocolate cake every night between 8-9pm. The kitchen is clean and big. The communal areas... More
