What an amazing stay with the James'. Organised at the last minute, we were welcomed to their gorgeous lodge. Dinner was so delicious, most of the ingredients picked straight from the garden. Do not pass this way without staying here. - Sarah & Steve

Stayed for one night on way from Christchurch to Dunedin. The two hosts - James and James - were very welcoming and the house is a very special location. Whatever you do, make sure you have dinner when you are there, it is an outstanding experience. We were quite lucky that we were one of only 2 couples that particular...

From the time we arrived until we left the next day every step was perfectly choreographed. The room was luxurious and the food was perfection. We would stay again in a flash. Thank you James and James,

Our group of 4 stayed last Saturday night for a special night away, and special it was! From the moment we were met in the carpark on our arrival, to taking the final photos of us all before we left, this was a memorable visit. Host James managed to be at our fingertips for anything we needed, attentive without being...

We have traveled all over NZ, and were thrilled to find this gem. The lodge is a remarkable combination of original furnishings, and art and artifacts from the world travels of the hosts. One could spend a few days just savoring the art and history - and in great comfort. But even more incredible is the culinary expertise of James...

My wife and stayed with the hosts James and James to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It was a very memorable night. We dinned in absolute opulence with an exceptional menu that James had made. James makes many of his own products and he joined us for a lovely conversation in the drawing room after dinner. The rooms are immaculately presented...

This place is unbelievably quaint and charming. What a unique property which is well maintained and beautiful. James and James were amazing hosts. We enjoyed the billiards room when we arrived a bit late due to driving all day. At breakfast we enjoyed homemade everything. Literally they make everything themselves from the jams to the yogurt. This beautiful and beautifully-restored 'arts and craft' style house is complete with period furniture and a magnificent garden. It stands on the edge of the surprising and elegant little town of Oamaru which boasts many fine buildings including an opera house. Thank you both for your thoughtful review! When we purchased the lodge in 2010, we certainly were concerned that it always retain its historicity while still being firmly footed in the modern day, so while we do have a lot of antiques, we also have all the modern conveniences that today's travellers expect. We're very glad that this has worked...
