We stayed just one night with my partner at Mango Tourist Hostel but it was a nice stay. The hostel is very charming and welcoming. The bedroom was quite big and the bed was very comfortable. The only regret is that there is no much privacy between the bedrooms. The wifi works perfectly and is free. Phil, the owner, is... More

The hostel itself is very nice and homely. It has all the facilities you could need and one of the best hostel wifis I've ever used. The owner Phil is obviously very knowledgeable about Fraser and has spent most of his life traveling and exploring it. He has different ideas to which parts of the island are most beautiful and... I arrived with a friend before going to Fraser island. The entrance takes you straight into the kitchen where we then waited around for the owner. He came and greeted us and explained the rules and then very quickly went onto discussing the trips he could organise for us. I proceeded to explain that we had already had our trips... More

A friend and I stayed at this hostel the night before and after our Fraser Island trip! It was cleanish and definitely very quiet to enable an early night. However, we were made to feel pretty uncomfortable by the hostel owner! Just like many of the other reviews on here I agree when they say the hostel owner was not... More

I really enjoyed the night I spent here! I wish I could have stayed longer. The kitchen and living room is very clean and the hostel has such a relaxed chilled vibe. Very refreshing to come to after all of the busy hostels. The owner was very helpful and had very useful information about OZ. It's about a 20 min... More

After 6 months of travelling, this is definitely the best hostel I've stayed at! Absolutely fabulous! The family that run the hostel are lovely, helpful & so knowledgable about Oz! With reference to the other reviews - sure the owner does advertise tours (it's his job as he does get commission), but we didn't find it too overbearing & found... More

We stayed in Hervey Bay for 3 nights and Phil and his lovely Austrian wife and daughter made our stay really enjoyable. Phil booked all the tours for us and his recommendation to do the Remote Faser Island Tour with Tasman Venture was simply the best! There are only three rooms in the hostel - our double room was simple... More

We had a lovely stay here. We were lucky enough to have the whole house to ourselves but even if other people are there I'm sure its still peaceful. The owners live in a house next door and have lots of information about travrlling and tours. We did end up booking a tour on Phils recommendation and had an amazing... More

I am not sure if some of the former comments stayed in the same hostel. It is very clean (definately no bedbugs), cheap and has a beautiful veranda and balcony at the back. The owner is more than helpful. For sure if you are looking for a party hostel it is definately not the right place to stay.

When we arrived had to wait 20mins to be greeted, then was immediately subjected to the hard-sell on Trips, even before talking about rooms! Turns out he didn't have the room we'd booked, but tried to encourage us to book trips on overnight stays on Fraser Island that we didn't even want. Apparently booking 2 females in a 'female dorm'...
