We had the pleasure of staying here for 2 nights whilst we were on a road trip around New Zealand. Well located just off the main road, 10 minute (steep) walk down into the heart of the town or a few minutes drive, close to the seal areas and view point, parking on site and streets around. The owners were very lovely and the place is beautiful, gardens well kept, a hot tub for use and the rooms were lovely. We stayed in the Seal room and the views were stunning. Robe, slippers, toiletries provided, kettle with teas/coffees etc in the room, lots of materials about the local area were provided and the en suite was a great standard and bed comfy. And how can i forget the freshly baked cookies- yum! Also a fridge on the landing for communal use (mainly to store milk and guests wine). Breakfast- order on cards night before with choice of times. Lots of choices and the breakfasts were some of the best we had on the holiday and was nice to sit on a family style table and speak to other guests, some we saw quite a lot around NZ on the rest of our trip! Highly recommend this place if you want a bit of NZ spirit in your travels.

Stayed in Nikau Lodge in January on our tour around New Zealand, and what a beautiful place. We stayed in the lovely Seal room and woke up to absolutely stunning views of the mountains. Our hosts Karen and Mick are a lovely couple and made us feel very welcome. They gave us tips on everything from where the best chance of seeing seals are to restaurants to consider (there’s plenty of restaurants it is best to book if you want a particular one as they can get booked up). The breakfast was excellent, from the homemade granola to the best Egg Benedict I’ve had. If/when we return to New Zealand Kaikoura is definitely a place we would revisit as we only had one night there, not enough, and we will definitely stay at Nikau Lodge again.

A very comfortable stay and outstanding level of care. The rooms were spacious and well appointed, and the breakfasts were excellent. Short walk into town for evening meals. We will be sure to visit again. And of course, Jazz the dog is just lovely.

We had a delightful stay at this lovely boutique B&B. Our room (Crayfish Suite) was very comfortable, light, warm and airy with marvellous views to the coast and mountains. It was a joy to sit in the bedroom’s “side” extension and just relax. Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts Mick and Sharon. As we did not have a car they stored our luggage on our departure day and Mick then delivered it to the bus stop for our afternoon departure to Christchurch. He would also have collected us from the railway station when we arrived had he known we were travelling that way - something to note rather than be ripped off by the local taxi firm. In any event, Nikau Lodge is not far from the centre of Kaikoura and easily walkable, with great views along the way. Finally, the breakfasts were superb - and it was a pleasure to chat to our hosts and other guests from all over the world. Do stay there if you can - you won’t be disappointed, and you can even enhance your stay by soaking in the outdoor hot tub - a pleasure we’ll look forward to if we manage to get back to New Zealand in the future.

This is such a friendly place to stay, you are made to feel welcome by Mick and Karen from the moment you arrive. We loved the way the windows folded right across so we had uninterrupted views from our room and could sit looking out at the bay and the mountains beyond. Breakfasts were lovely and relaxed, served around a big sociable table in the huge kitchen/diner. There is a footpath which takes you down to the the shops and restaurants on the seafront in minutes, you can also walk to the Whaleway Station where the whale watching tours go from. After seeing whales we spent the next day doing the fabulous Peninsula Walk a few minutes drive away.. The hot tub was a lovely way to relax at the lodge after a busy day exploring

My wife and I stayed at the Lodge January 18-19. The first stop of a driving trip around the North and West sides of the New Zealand South island. Mick met us when we arrived and we met Karen a short time later. Since it was getting on in the afternoon, he inquired whether we had bookings anywhere. The first lesson in traveling New Zealand. Make a booking for dinner. He made bookings for both nights for us at the Zephyr and The Pier. The Zephyer is a very short walk dowhill from the lodge and we had an excellent meal in a quiet attractive atmosphere. The second night he recommended The Pier which was different and also an great experience. Booked full and apparently a favorite local place. A very friendly atmosphere and our American accents were noted. We had the Crayfish (lobster) which we enjoyed. Service at both restaurants was great. You can trust Mick's recommendations. We got to hike near the seal colony and it was very nice. Took a whale watching tour and managed to spend some good time with a whale. We stayed in the Dolphin Suite - upstairs looking out the front. Great views and very very comfotable. We had two breakfasts and Mick cooked eggs with bacon (not striped bacon) that was delicious. Definitely we would recommend the lodge. Excellent location and hosts.

We stayed with Mick and Karen for 2 nights. They’re a lovely couple very warm, friendly and welcoming. We had a nice room with a great view over the Kaikoura bay. The house is in a great location for a walk into the town. The town is small but has plenty of places to eat, it can get busy so it’s better to book you restaurant before hand if you can. There’s a hot tub which was easy to use and lovely to relax in at the end of the day. Our breakfasts were tasty, Mick’s homemade granola, berries and yogurt was the best I had all holiday. It was a great place to stop.
