We paid top dollar for what we thought was going to be a lovely weekend....we were so disappointed! The website is very misleading! It was dirty, the kitchen cupboards smelt old and damp, the wee cooker was grotty. The bathroom you have to squeeze past a hand basin and part of the shower door to get in The dust and mank behind the head board to get the bed side lamps to work...we didn't even try. The duvet hadn't been washed in a long long time... Little things like new dish brush, new linen/robes or just give it a real good clean will help!

Rustic cottage amdist beautiful lavender gardens in a quiet and peaceful location, yet a mere 10min drive to the town centre. Host Myra delivers delicious freshly baked bread every morning, and you should not miss her honey lavender ice cream! The Irish pub at Donegal House offers a good dining option if you do not wish to drive to town. Highly recommended!

We stayed for one night over Labour Weekend, we wanted a relaxing escape from our busy life in Christchurch. Staying in Kowhai Cottage on Lavendyl Lavender Farm ticked every box. The farm is in a great location, just a short drive from the town, but far enough away for pure peace and tranquillity. The cottage was very clean and homely, as we had made the trip to escape and relax we spend the evening in. We enjoyed a glass of bubbles on the balcony whilst watching the sunset. We loved the range of lavender products to try and the spa bath was very relaxing. We made use of the bbq which topped off a very chilled evening. The next morning, after a very peaceful sleep, we had freshly baked bread and eggs, and gave the lavender tea a try. This place really is more than just a bed to rest your head :-)

Was actually shouted a night here with the missus for doing some stuff for the bros. Ended up staying an extra night! Cheeky fullas must've known we were gonna stay cause they paid for 2 nights!!! Hey guys if it's lavender season, and you think your gonna get lucky with the missus, forget it... There's that much lavender smell around the place you'll be out for the count as soon as you hit that pillow! And if course with lavender, there's bees... and lots of bees! So don't go walking through the farm armed with a fly swat like the idiots next door to us!

We hoped for more and it sounded very romantic to be on a lavender farm outside Kaikoura. The farm itself is nice so the setting is lovely. However, the cottage was not, it was really cold, dark and it was not clean. The little garden and the bathtub were not inviting, just faded and not well maintained. The price is unreasonable for that quality!

You stayed in September when we had been operating the business for less than a month. What a shame you didn't pass on your comments at the time as we would have welcomed them. Aspects of the accommodation had been neglected and since you stayed we have done a significant amount of work around that cottage. Trees have been felled and pruned around the cottage to allow in more light. The garden has had significant work with updated screening, new planting and the craft-room walls, which border the garden, have been painted to brighten it up. The bath is being re-enamelled and a new cover will be made for it. The upstairs balcony has been completely replaced. We plan to replace the bathroom and kitchen at a suitable point. All of this has to be done while retaining the unique character of the cottage. New management photos will be posted soon and I would welcome your view on the cottage as it is now.
