We had never stayed at a B&B before, so this was a bit of a risk for us. We had two young children with us. We checked in at the kids' bedtime, and were relieved to find a room that had not only enough beds for us, but also the linens/blankets were super inviting/comfortable/cozy. We felt comfortable and welcome. The... More

We stayed three nights at Awatea in January and it was excellent. Alison is a very welcoming, matter of fact, hostess and very helpful. Our room had a patio door onto the rear patio which looks out onto a range of hills just inland. We loved to sit there in the evening, with a beer, and watch the sun go... More

We spent two nights at Awatea this past week and it was delightful. It is conveniently located just off Highway 1 and easy to find. It is only a short 10 minute drive into the main street of Kaikoura. Awatea is a quiet retreat with various animals in the fields leading up to the house and that gives it a... More

Well, what a lovely country retreat 6 kms outside Kaikoura, giving us total respite from driving and people, very relaxing and extremely comfortable. Surrounded by beautiful views and a very warm welcome by the owner Alison, this was a real gem for us. The only observation we wouldmake would be to include some sliced meats, cheese, tomatoes etc with the... More

We truly enjoyed the relaxation provided at the very simple Awatea. All the necessary amenities in the room and common area. Allison is truly a delightful host and was wonderful with our little boy. The large backyard was perfect for him to crawl around and he loved the farm animals. The location is very convenient to downtown Kaikoura and Allison... More

My partner and I just had a wonderful weekend stay at Awatea Country Bed & Breakfast. Our room was spacious and equipped with all the necessary creature comforts, including a flat screen TV, electric blankets, extra seating and a large ensuite (with great water pressure!). Our room also came with a view of the snow-tipped Kaikoura ranges. The B&B is... More

Alison, the proprietor has made this B&B truly unique. This is a farm with an alpaca, horses, pigs, hens, dogs, and a vegetable garden. While animals abound the rooms and common areas are immaculately clean, spacious and well laid out. The challenge of operating a farm and a B&B are most successfully met here. A lounge area adjacent to the... More
