Our stay began with a warm welcome from a very pleasant reception desk hostess. We found the camper van lot pretty basic but it included power hookups, a kitchen and a dump station.

Washers and dryers were available. WiFi was free and had a strong signal with reasonable speed. The kitchen featured a four-burner electric stove two sinks and a fridge.

Nice location 0.6 miles from the city Centre. The Holiday Park suited our needs for the night for $35 NZD.

We rented a cabin for the night after travelling all day from Christchurch. We liked the location because it was off the main street and before the Hokitika township.
The room was as advertised and in fact was slightly bigger than expected. The shared facilities such as kitchen, toilets and showers were also as expected. Only disappointment was that the TV kept cutting out every 5-10 minutes while trying to watch a live rugby game, so we gave up and watched it on our tablet. The Wifi was good. Tea and coffee were provided in our room but there were no cups, only spoons. The kitchen only had two cups, so we used them and returned them so that others could use. I don't think there was much kitchen utensils etc to use.

We chose this place because we could bring our dog. I managed to book the two bedroom stand alone cottages, this had its own grass area and a great balcony.

On arrive the staff were super helpful and the accomodation unit was very tidy and had every thing we needed.

We stayed for three nights and was pleasantly surprised that they can everyday to empty the rubbish, clean the kitchen (including our dishes) and tidy the bathroom.

The kids used the pool everyday, it's not flash but cooled the kids down and kept them entertained for a good amount of time, plus it's fully fenced so the dog could come and have a snif and roam.

We went to use the playground and unfortunately this area could use a bit of an update as most of the equipment was old and worn. But the kids didn't seem to mind as Hokitika has plenty of awesome playgrounds.

With the beach being just over the road it was ideal and the centre of town was only a 10min walk away.

I would recommend if you have pets, and will happily stay again.

The location is great and some of the accomodation looks nice but the cabin I stayed in was one of 3 prefab office style rooms next to each other that was completely shabby. Wires sticking out of the wall, and it smelt like someone had over cleaned to mask a worse smell somewhere. That being said the bed was comfortable so if you don't care about looks you are all good. It would have been great to have a few hooks or something to hang wet gear from or a towel. Overpriced for what it was.

Great sized unit with plenty of room for adult family. Bring close to the beach and having a swimming pool was a bonus and staff were very helpful in uncovering it for us to use. The motels are very easy to find and within walking distance to the town centre.

Stayed in a standard cabin which was very dated, basic and dusty / moldy. Worse of all the bed was very old and extremely soft (imagine V-shaped sagging into the middle) resulting in a restless nights sleep and back pain in the morning. Felt a little like a prison cell with the decor. I imagine the self contained units maybe better but the standard cabins are substandard / poor and there are probably better options elsewhere. I brought these issues up with the owner who didn't seem to care. The kitchen / bathroom facilities are old and dated (may have been up to standard 20 years ago). Very packed "holiday park" which is really just units and a gravel car park.

The unit we stayed in was clean but dated. During the night (which was raining heavily) we noticed that the brick wall was quite saturated with water. This was the wall that the bed was against. The carpet beside the wall was exceptionally damp. There was an electric socket which the electricals were plugged into on the wet wall. We chose to move the bed and unplugged the electricals. We had chosen the motel as we were travelling with animals - otherwise we would have left that night and gone elsewhere.

We stayed here for 1 night. Parking was right next to room. The room was spacious, but very 1960 style. Basic and ordinary. There was hardly any water coming out the weird little shower cubicle outlet so it’s not possible to get a good shower. Only a trickle of warm water in the basin. It was hard to breathe in the room due to the collected dust. When we arrived at the room all the windows and doors were open for some reason. It was about 2km from the city centre and a nice place to start a run from. A tiny TV was also provided. The WiFi was good.

Response from frankee55, Receptionist at 252 Beachside Motels & Holiday Park

Yes we are an older motel that is obvious on our website but we provide clean spacious units for guests to enjoy. We wish you would have told us when you were here about the shower so we could have addressed this problem at the time. Rooms are cleaned daily not sure what dust build up you are referring to. We open the windows and doors after the previous guest has left to air out the room - standard procedure. We are less than 1km from the city centre (3min drive or a 15-20min walk). Glad to hear you enjoyed the free WiFi.

Handy to the beach, clean but dated.
WiFi was terrible, had no coverage on 3 devices in the unit. Could stream Netflix outside but who's going to do that in winter! Raised with owner twice but nothing done.

The only reason I didn't give a 1 is because the staff were friendly and helpful with our requests. The kitchen facility was severely underequipped and the cabins left a lot to be desired. The whole place is in need of a makeover. Keep the staff though.
